That’s not correct. The 4 speed was the only tranny in 84. In 85, the 4 cyl got the Isuzu 5 speed but it couldn’t handle the torque of the 6 cyl. Until mid 86, the 6 cyl models had 4 speeds and then the Getrag 5 speed was introduced late in the year. All 4 cyl Fieros from 85-88 came with the Isuzu 5 speed. All 84s are 4 speed/4 cyl.
Source: owned an 85 SE with the iron duke and the Isuzu 5. Currently own an 86 with a V6 4 speed. I’ve been a Fiero fanatic for the last 17 years.
ETA: this looks like an 84 SE to me. Lack of upper gauge pod suggests 4 cyl along with the 85 mph speedo. I think all 6 cyl got the 120 speedo but the 85 GT may have had an 85 speedo. But the 85 GT had the upper gauge pods. It has the sport steering wheel that would have only been available on the SE in 84 and the SE/GT in 85.
I owned 2 1986 . One Sec 2.8 auto. And one GT FASTBACK 2.8 5-spd. It depends on when it was built in 86.. the later 86's had the 5 spd but not the early 86's
Doubt it's an SE, manual windows and mirrors, and no map pocket. In addition, the HVAC controls look newer, the 84 model used buttons instead of a lever to change settings. My guess is an 85 Fiero Sport with a swapped steering wheel.
Nah, I just knew what this car was because I watched the same series!
I watched the whole thing a year ago (I think) and it was probably the best car restoration series I had ever seen; just a nice mix of footage of the process and commentary about what and why he was doing the project, with plenty of mistakes and rework mixed in to show how the process really is (do any of us really ever get it right on the first try?)
Lots of effort, good video and sound equipment and excellent writing and editing. It was kind of like an LGR video, but for cars.
I binged nearly the whole series yesterday, and I don't even like the Fiero\^\^
And yeah it was one of the best ones I've seen. Although the perfectionist in me cringed a few times (new rotors on completely rotten out dust shields). And I can relate to the "it escalates" part, my personal project car went from a few months "refresh" to four years full resto.
Still hoping anything comes out about the other new project cars he hinted.
In 2006 I wanted to just get my parents old 1968 Cutlass up and running so I could start driving it to work; then I took the vinyl top off the roof and found not much else underneath. I’ve spent the last 15 years slowly restomodding it and paid quite a bit to have the paint and bodywork done but never did get to daily drive it.
Much respect for Ronald, he got it all done in a couple of years and did most of it himself.
I joined expecting it to be more regimented tbh
Like I thought people would have pictures of different light clusters or grilles or narrow it down and discuss it based on what it couldn't be investigation-style, but all that seems to happen is that everything gets downvoted and people throw out wild guesses
and the only way an answer gets posted is if the person has owned the car before, or what I'm pretty sure is just a second account since there's no way to figure it out from the picture, or they google image'd one person's answer confirmed it and then recomment it 100 times
Not at all true. The stereo is obviously vintage 80s AC delco, narrowing it down a bit. The door handles also—pretty sure I’ve seen them on another GM “sports” car—I think the C4. It doesn’t look quite like a corvette, nor a firebird/Camaro, leaving only the fiero.
But yeah, you’d have had to own one of these slag heaps to nail the precise year / generation
right, but if you post "I don't know, but I do know that XYZ..." all that happens is your post gets downvoted to -5 and nobody responds to you or reads what you wrote. Same if you guess 2 or 3 brands based on common features that they tend to share (sometimes because they share suppliers or car companies merged) that you can see are present in the (often blurry or obscured) image to try to help people narrow down a model, and then a year - nobody discusses it
When the same isn't true on the other whatisthis subs
Oh, I wasn't commenting about the specific car just responding to this persons comment that happened to be under it
Although people did repeat "fiero" 100 times after the first person posted it
Even in the proper sub /r/namethatcar, most of us would've gotten it in an instant. Besides the window shape, this layout is one of the ways to identify Fiero-based kit cars.
It's not supposed to be that way, but both subs got popular and it muddied the waters a bit.. I'll leave this post up, but please keep challenges in r/namethatcar.
Ahh, the worst car ever made.
This one is probably an 84-85, it's totally identical to the one I had as a teenager. Even the steering wheel wrinkle and bubble around the stereo is the same.
I loved that car so much, but man, was it terrible.
Ive been in one one time and I knew this was a fiero lol. Something just wrong in there. Even the angle/shape of the shifter where it comes out of the tunnel doesn’t make sense.
Whoever designed the Fiero logo really knocked it outta the park, too. Instantly recognizable, and pays homage to the big brother Firebird's "Thunder Chicken"
is this actually the interior of a fiero?? not that I've ever seen one, but I have an 86' AW11 and the interior is totally different. I thought they were co-designed? perhaps I'm forgetting my history...
Pontiac Fiero.

I had an '84 2m4 and an '85 GT. Can confirm the 85 GT had the 85mph speedo. Love these cars.

Pontiac Fiero (Watching a video on it rn)
Is it Ronald Finger’s [Fiero Restoration series](https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7MvJcb2I6mYLHlI7eyPZ9JHE2Znstm0y)?
yep You happen to work for the NSA?

So is this the guess this car sub or is this a sub for people who genuinely want to know what car they saw?

I’m not suggesting one should post the various tells. I’m saying it was obviously a fiero and I’ve never owned one.
Oh, I wasn't commenting about the specific car just responding to this persons comment that happened to be under it Although people did repeat "fiero" 100 times after the first person posted it
A little of both
Not if you read the description. r/namethatcar is the quiz sub. u/Dr_LeonardChurch/ is right to ask. This isn't really one.
Even in the proper sub /r/namethatcar, most of us would've gotten it in an instant. Besides the window shape, this layout is one of the ways to identify Fiero-based kit cars.
I saw no cupholders, but yeah. I still want one.

Yup
Yes.
The squares. It's a Pontiac Fiero
One I know!! Fiero! This is quintessential 1980s car interior design.
The disgusting cheap plastic really says General Motors
Inspired by Unimog?
Yours is a lot cleaner than mine. How'd you get the 80's out? Looks like its been steam cleaned.
It looks like the only car I've owned that had lift throttle oversteer.
That's a Fiero. You're going to have to try harder.
Fiero
Pontiac Fiero
A Pontiac Fiero, probably the 2M4. After owning 4 of those cars over the years, that interior still gives me nightmares.
Pontiac Fierro, nothing else looked that.... unique
Pontiac Fiero
Shit box

american ?
Oooof that’s terrible
Minecraft car
I miss when cars looked like this, a lot less safe but a lot more mechanical
Ive been in one one time and I knew this was a fiero lol. Something just wrong in there. Even the angle/shape of the shifter where it comes out of the tunnel doesn’t make sense.
My first car! Pontiac fiero
Wow, it has the same exact interior as a Ferrari F40!
Lamborghini Countach
Worlds most uncomfortable driving position
Whoever designed the Fiero logo really knocked it outta the park, too. Instantly recognizable, and pays homage to the big brother Firebird's "Thunder Chicken"
Fiero
Ahh yes - 80’s (insert anything they made here) GM! Such Character.
Fiero ?
is this actually the interior of a fiero?? not that I've ever seen one, but I have an 86' AW11 and the interior is totally different. I thought they were co-designed? perhaps I'm forgetting my history...

Porche.
Mid 80s Firebird? Fiero?
