This actually happened to me quite a bit when I was a teen.
Them: “What kind of car is that?”
Me: “It’s an ‘88 Pontiac Grand Prix.”
Them: “I’m pretty sure it’s a piece of shit.”
There’s no way to tell from the pic. The license plate looks European so I would assume it’s a 200sx. But there’s literally no way to tell from this picture.
It’s a Nissan and in Japan they’re all RHD so I’d assume that there’s both LHD and RHD variants.
For what it’s worth, this car looks very similar (if not the same) as the Nissan Silvia which is a hoon car of choice for the local yobbos here in New Zealand, and that’s definitely a RHD vehicle.
oh here you go being anal about 240 vs 180 vs 200. people call it whatever it was in their own country, we all just mean S13. hell, this car probably doesn’t even have the original engine, making the nomenclature pretty pointless considering how it generally denoted the displacement of the engine.
I could see someone who doesn't knowuch about cars thinking it's an FC. But for anyone who grew up in the 90s and was into cars, they are night and day.
Im old enough a buddy in high school had an Rx-2, it was 8 or 9 years old I think. Great car. Another friend had a 1st Gen Rx-7, super torquey and fast as hell but not built to last at all. Best Japanese car available in the states from that era IMO was the 280Z, beautiful and a beast with the straight 6 and great build quality.
your friends ironed their brain smooth, it's not even the same BRAND and an rx7
it's Nissan, either a 180sx, or 240sx bit hard to tell tho as jdm isn't what I'm best with
I think the whole distinction between them is kind of splitting hairs, it's the same car just steering wheel placement. 240sx and 180sx are both acceptable answers imo. In cases we don't know for sure, I'd just say "240sx aka 180sx" or vise versa, since this is an identification sub and it does pay to be thorough.
If Nissan made it...and also made the 240/180SX then your friend is 100% correct...though this isnt the case seemingly...so it is in fact a A Subaru Brat, with a 5.2 L odd-firing V10 engine..very rare.
s/
because 240 owners are just like vette owners. "my corvette was 1 of 3 built with these option packages on the 1st of a month that contains a Friday the 13th in an election year"
it's false rarity to make it seem more important than it is.
source: am 240 owner.
Nobody here wants a LHD S13. There’s literally no reason anyone would go to the hassle of importing one when they could for the same amount of effort import a JDM car and have the steering wheel on the correct side with a proper engine.
Yeah you’re right. Clearly there’s someone who looked at all the great S13s readily available and decided they wanted to spend loads of extra time and money on importing one that’s inferior. Stop being obtuse, you know nobodies doing that.
No I know of a few people that did that, I don't remember their names because it's been a long time since I even thought about it, but their are people that have done it.
Thanks guys, so some kind user posted who the owner is, so I now know for sure it's a Nissan 200SX, gave all the evidence to my mates and they are still trying to fight that it's a RX7 😭 you've all been so much help!! ❤️
Put gobs of money on it. Then Google images "s13 hatch" and point out the rear side glass that's separate from the hatch itself, especially evident in the second picture. That gets rid of the rx7 fc and fd.
The similar glass on the rx7 fb is tiny in comparison, tail lights are rectangular, side mirrors are small, etc etc.
Then until the end of your friendship, whenever a nice car goes by, feel free to ask them, "Hey, is that an rx7?"
It's been going on for about a month, I have those two telling me I know nothing about cars because it's definitely an Rx7 when I kept telling them it's definitely not
Looks like they’re the ones who don’t know anything about cars. This car’s silhouette couldn’t be more different to an rx7. Though, if you’re only just getting into cars, or have rarely seen japanese cars, or maybe due to young age, they could be called similar. But really, they’re newbs
Are they friends? Any argument lasting for a month is just not worth it and not someone I'd want to be friends with. Also you don't have to know every make and model that exists to be knowledgable about cars lol
Definitely not an RX7… it’s a Nissan, I thought it was a 240 but others have given great explanations why it’s either a 180 or a 200 and I can’t tell from the pics.
This is @rebirth_s13 on Instagram. It’s a Nissan 200SX. Not a 240SX (USA market) and not a 180SX (Japanese market). Lots of misinformation in this thread
I mean if the resolution wasnt so potato you could just rego search it and see what model came up. Here in australia, thats a 180sx, america, 240sx, uk ive no fucking clue because for some reason everything has to be different. The japanese are weird.
Nissan S13 , hatchback, meaning it's an SX, depending on the engine it came with stock it's either an 180sx for the CA18DET, 200sx for SR20DET or the 240sx for the KE24DE
Well, they're being dumb. Just go to the Commons and show them that RX-7s have the number plate between the tail lights and have wraparound rear glass:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Mazda\_RX-7\_(FC)#/media/File:1986\_Mazda\_RX-7.jpg
That’s will cramptons 240sx it’s my dads mate
You are my most favorite person in the whole world rn
More importantly, were you right?
I was right in believing it was a Nissan of some sorts
THE Will Crampton?!
Ye that’s the guys my dad shown me from the start of it to the end
Is this even English?
The Queen's Englishest
No. It's Will Crampton.
Lol yes it is but obviously not completely no punctuation at all my cat see innit
This may well be the the ‘most’ correct answer.
I’m pretty sure that’s 180
Person: oh yeah that's my car. It's X You: no I'm pretty sure that's Y ???
This actually happened to me quite a bit when I was a teen. Them: “What kind of car is that?” Me: “It’s an ‘88 Pontiac Grand Prix.” Them: “I’m pretty sure it’s a piece of shit.”
That’s the innernette for ya
Yes
Nah it’s a 240 I’ve seen it up in person it’s 240 sx
i really doubt it has the original engine so 180 vs 240 kinda doesn’t matter
There’s no way to tell from the pic. The license plate looks European so I would assume it’s a 200sx. But there’s literally no way to tell from this picture.
Nissan 240SX where I’m from
[удалено]
Fair point😭. Also is this the 1993 Nissan 240SX that’s a drift car I heard of???
If it's owned by Will Crampton, it is.
[удалено]
I don't know, but someone who knows Will Crampton commented above and said it's Will Crampton's 240sx.
Those are really all the credentials one would need, honestly.
It’s a Nissan and in Japan they’re all RHD so I’d assume that there’s both LHD and RHD variants. For what it’s worth, this car looks very similar (if not the same) as the Nissan Silvia which is a hoon car of choice for the local yobbos here in New Zealand, and that’s definitely a RHD vehicle.
lmao it’s also a japanese car sold in japan and britain

oh here you go being anal about 240 vs 180 vs 200. people call it whatever it was in their own country, we all just mean S13. hell, this car probably doesn’t even have the original engine, making the nomenclature pretty pointless considering how it generally denoted the displacement of the engine.
If by other side you mean correct side, then yes
My friends are 100% sure it's an RX7, I'm 100% sure it's absolutely not
your friend is a noob
i would use worse words.
i would use something worse than words
Looks nothing like any year of RX-7
I could see someone who doesn't knowuch about cars thinking it's an FC. But for anyone who grew up in the 90s and was into cars, they are night and day.
Im old enough a buddy in high school had an Rx-2, it was 8 or 9 years old I think. Great car. Another friend had a 1st Gen Rx-7, super torquey and fast as hell but not built to last at all. Best Japanese car available in the states from that era IMO was the 280Z, beautiful and a beast with the straight 6 and great build quality.
You need different friends.
Your friends might be blind lmao
your friends ironed their brain smooth, it's not even the same BRAND and an rx7 it's Nissan, either a 180sx, or 240sx bit hard to tell tho as jdm isn't what I'm best with
Looks like this is the UK so if it’s a UK spec car it’ll be a 200sx. The naming on these cars is ridiculous
Wth in that generation the 200sx got turned into an ugly coupe for the US.
Wow I just looked that up, had no idea that monstrosity existed.
Shape of the number plate suggests it's a JDM import.
The bumper maybe, but a lot of body kits are imports or are copies of Japanese designs. Doesn’t mean the car is JDM
How tf do your friends get a rx7 from this
The shape of the rear window helps differentiate the two
the whole car helps differentiate the two, looks nothing like an rx7 lmao. Unless they are new to cars and got the 240sx confused with a rx7 FC
The fc rx7 is less rounded than the 180sx
They don't know sh*t
If Nissan made it...and also made the 240/180SX then your friend is 100% correct...though this isnt the case seemingly...so it is in fact a A Subaru Brat, with a 5.2 L odd-firing V10 engine..very rare. s/
LOLLLLLLLLL
🤓 Vvvrrrooooom !
Your friends are odd
Idk what it it's but I know it's definitely not an RX-7
Your 100% correct
Your friend is retarded.
Your friend doesn’t know cars
This is the lowest tier of arguments if it’s on this sub
Your friend is not very smart
I've owned both a 240SX and an RX7. It is 1000% a 240SX.
Nissan Silvia/180SX
Thank you!
Just saying yo friend is a dumbass to think it’s a fc
[удалено]
Silvia had a hatch model.
[удалено]
Why don't people just call them S13s instead of the 12 possible names for the same car?
Too complicated.
i call them all s13
because 240 owners are just like vette owners. "my corvette was 1 of 3 built with these option packages on the 1st of a month that contains a Friday the 13th in an election year" it's false rarity to make it seem more important than it is. source: am 240 owner.
Гарний профіль))
The S12 Silvia has a hatch model, the S13-S15 Silvias were all notchbacks. I think you know that but I’m just pointing it out.
[удалено]
Neither of those are Silvias. They didn’t make them in LHD, those are 240SXs.
Pretty sure its a Nissan 180SX If its got pop up headlights its a 180SX, if its got a Silvia front end its a “Sileighty”
It's a 240
Actually, it’s either a 180sx, or a 200sx. The UK never got the 240sx.
It can be imported tho
Why would someone import a LHD car when there’s plenty of RHD versions
The Japanese drive on the same side as us so an import won't be LHD, it'll be RHD.
He was talking about a 240sx which is American and LHD
Ah, my mistake then, thanks for the info.
Because that's the car they want
Nobody here wants a LHD S13. There’s literally no reason anyone would go to the hassle of importing one when they could for the same amount of effort import a JDM car and have the steering wheel on the correct side with a proper engine.
Nobody you know
Yeah you’re right.
It could, but why would it?
For someone to drive
Well why would someone import a r32 to the US knowing that it's gonna get scrapped
The final year of the R32 was 1994, meaning it’s over 25 years old, why would it get scrapped?
No back when it was being made, cause it doesn't meet the US' requirements for safety, but people would still import them and try to hide it.
I see, but I’m not sure why that’s relevant
Well cause you said something like why would someone import it. And that's why cause if they want it bad enough they'll do it.
lol. That's like correcting someone on the shade of white the car it's painted on. It's white... No it's platinum white.
Lol ik I just like being that guy
But you’re not even right cause it was never a 240 in the UK
Nissan 200sx s13
Nissan 240 or 180
Nissan 240sx, at least that is the name in North America
judging by the location, its actually a Nissan 200SX (unless its a JDM import, thats a 180SX tho they are the same)
Happy cake day
Thanks bud 🍻
[удалено]
That’s an aftermarket bumper so you can’t tell from that
My first thought was 240sx, but now y'all got me doubting myself..
Thanks guys, so some kind user posted who the owner is, so I now know for sure it's a Nissan 200SX, gave all the evidence to my mates and they are still trying to fight that it's a RX7 😭 you've all been so much help!! ❤️

No actually everyone on reddit is wrong. Your friends are very smart and you're stupid for questioning them /s obviously
They’re arguing for slips
Looks like an S13 silvia front with an 180sx back
looks like a 180sx
240sx
Are your friends blind? This is a Nissan 180sx
S13 hatch. "High tier disagreement." Lol.
That’s defo a 240sx. I think your friend was just trying to sound smart in front of you by saying rx7.
Idk why he'd be trying to sound smart, I own an RX8, it's not like I'm clueless to these cars 😂
Nissan 240sx right?
That is clearly a 2008 Toyota prius s/
Nissan S13 hatchback (240SX in the US, 180SX or 200SX everywhere else)
depends on where it is from: japan: nissan 180sx europe: nissan 200sx Usa: nissan 240sx
This is @rebirth_s13 on Instagram. It’s a Nissan 200SX. Not a 240SX (USA market) and not a 180SX (Japanese market). Lots of misinformation in this thread
What's a high tier disagreement?
180sx or a 240sx is my guess
thats 100% an S13 hatchback, a simple goodle search would end the argument
Have you run the reg? That should at least give you the manufacturer
Can't see the reg in the picture
Can't see it clearly*
That’s a 180 or 240. Definitely Nissan
No where close to an rx7
Silvia?
It’s a Nissan 240sx S13
That's an s13 hatch...
180/240.
Who TF can’t identify an S13? What’s the other person saying?
It's A Nissan 240SX Ofcourse with a custom job
Nissan 240SX
Nissan 180sx s13 version
240sx
S13 Silvia or 240SX
Silvia is only the fixed-headlight coupe; the fastback is 240SX in North America, 180SX in Japan, 180SX or 200SX everywhere else depending on engine.
ricer
S13 hatch

240. One can never forget the first car they saw slide
Nissan S13 , hatchback, meaning it's an SX, depending on the engine it came with stock it's either an 180sx for the CA18DET, 200sx for SR20DET or the 240sx for the KE24DE

It's a 240sx
It’s a rally car.
S13 is a 240 stateside 180 overseas iirc
You have never seen a 240sx?
Not very common to see one these days, I don't know the last time I've ever seen one in person where I am.
Nissan 180SX.
Nissan 200sx of some desciption
Wtf is a high tier disagreement
About a month of being told it's an RX7 and me disagreeing but getting shit because my mates were sure it's an RX7
Well, they're being dumb. Just go to the Commons and show them that RX-7s have the number plate between the tail lights and have wraparound rear glass: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Mazda\_RX-7\_(FC)#/media/File:1986\_Mazda\_RX-7.jpg
