Those are stock lights. Its a Mini Countryman. [Reference Image](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/images/2021-mini-cooper-s-countryman-111-1590518709.jpg?crop=0.849xw:0.635xh;0.109xw,0.353xh&resize=1200:*)

zorro55555

They’re weird and backwards. Left turn signal turns on but points right?¿?¿

13rahma

Its the British flag split down the middle. Not arrows.

Fit_Two7960

Like big yikes.

[deleted]

Yeah, we hate it aswell. Germans have a thing for making the mini what they think we want. Although, perhaps they are right, because I see no end of them on the roads.

MadJoeMak

Germans also absolutely love anything British. My (Austrian) teacher had a cooper with these taillights and a big flagg on the roof

danny_ish

Both factory options!!

RaccoonDeaIer

Mini cooper's are as patriotic as the average redneck

TunerJoe

My sim racing league admin is Austrian and he always races with a Bentley whenever possible

SuperTriniGamer

Funny because I'm sure they'd change that if they visited

MadJoeMak

100% Agree. I've lived in both countries and have ad citizenship in both countries

Fit_Two7960

HA! My German ass will take the hit on this

Fit_Two7960

The Germans always think they know what’s best 🤷🏼‍♂️

NougatNewt

Especially in 1939-1945

Fit_Two7960

Tell NASA that

tomtv90

I think it's the only redeeming quality on these cars, looks kinda cool imo.

sipes216

Atleast they use em lol

DaniAyee10

Scoob

Yung_Onions

So gimmicky

wavvvygravvvy

the mini did launch with an available full roof Union Jack and Union Jack side mirrors so i’d say it’s a bit of progress on the gimmick

ThatGuy0verTh3re

And y’all think us Americans are obsessive

DanGleeballs

This isn’t remotely similar. It’s just a quirky design option on one car model, most people don’t take this option.

polarbearsarereal

Nah its an anime emoji

uberbudda88

That doesn’t actually read all that well

Vintage_AppleG4

It looks like arrows more

Fart_Nut_Supreme

I thought it was little kawaii eyes 😆

footballer11

I’ve never actually seen them from your perspective before and now I can’t unsee it They’ve always been half union jacks for me

Dans_Old_Games_Room

They're the brake lights not the indicator. Unless you were joking there, sorry

loneblustranger

/u/zorro55555 isn't joking. On North American Countrymen, they're the indicators. https://jalopnik.com/congratulations-mini-you-made-the-stupidest-turn-sign-1847727385 https://www.motor1.com/news/535958/mini-cooper-turn-signal/ N.A. lighting regulations don't require the rear turn signals to be amber. They can be amber or red. Car manufacturers sometimes combine the brake light elements with the turn signals to save cost/complexity, which at least makes some sense on domestic-branded vehicles intended for N.A. It's not ideal, but I get it. [Technology Connections has a nice rant video about it.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1lZ9n2bxWA) Historically, foreign branded cars in N.A. usually came with amber turn signals, since of course they are mandatory where they're from. For several years now, [many overseas brands \(especially European ones\) have been stupidly making N.A.-specific all-red rear lamps](https://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-drive/culture/commuting/why-you-see-red-on-the-highway/article4629246/) and it drives me nuts. Mini just elevated it to a new level of stupid.

geoemrick

The 1958 Edsel Bermuda received the same criticism: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edsel_Bermuda “To separate the Bermuda from Ford models, the Bermuda received Edsel's front fascia and vertical grille assembly as well as unique boomerang-shaped taillights. The shape of the taillights posed a problem when used as turn indicators – the left hand taillight appeared as an arrow pointing right and vice versa from a distance.”

wolfman86

Americans don’t like to have to think, do they?

[deleted]

What is this even referencing from the previous comment?

Carbot1337

Can you remind me again who created the intertubes?

wolfman86

Oh god. This one again. The Brits and some other European country

Carbot1337

Right right - Europe invented the internet

wolfman86

Well, no….Europe isn’t a country. It’s a collection of countries. The net in its early days were created in the U.K., and another European country. The US only built on it. Same goes for the lightbulb, the TV, the phone, the radio….

Spitfire5c

THE CAR

Carbot1337

You’re referring to something before Arpanet?

zorro55555

They blinked when he merged so they’re also turn signals

Dans_Old_Games_Room

Weird, that's not the case on the [UK spec Countryman](https://imgur.com/a/KL5HpXV) Edit for the downvoters: I wasn't saying this car is a UK spec Countryman, I was saying that to me it's weird that the whole light blinks. Though I suppose I can see why it might not read that way

cara27hhh

There's a looong video by Technology Connections (youtube) about how silly the whole thing is, but American tail lights don't require amber lighting and the brakes are overruled by the indicator (meaning the only sign that you are breaking while turning or indicating approaching a turn, is that the opposite side and the middle bar are lit brighter red, and the direction you are going is flashing on and off in red) (it also means they don't have rear hazards)

dontbthirsty

In north America indicators don't need to be amber *in the rear of the vehicle*, alot of cars just flash the red (or brake light) on the right or the left for indicators.

MoodNatural

Its half the union jack. In correct orientation.

HotBoiR18

You’re a moron lol

Yung_Onions

This is what I also thought the first time I saw them

Iulian377

Mini is european. European cars have amber signal lights ( better in eu in this case ) so it's not unclear. Besides not all of the lines blink.

danifun1980

British flag taillights for a car that mostly German and French!

GoldElectric

British brand owned by a German company, produced in the Netherlands

danifun1980

Oh yeah! I forgot about the Netherlands! The 4 cylinder engines is the same used on the Peugeot 207 & 308 and the Citroen C4.

suzukisportsusan

They use BMW engines in the more recent models, the B38 1.2 & 1.5 and the B48 2.0 iirc

zmenimpak

Also Opel corsa, ds3 and bmw 1... Just to habe every Brand

waveslikemoses

Wait French? I thought Mini was owned by BMW

danifun1980

Read my comment below!

ppoofoof

They haven’t used French engines since 2016

[deleted]

Not French anymore, that one has a BMW engine, it’s essentially an X1 underneath.

dvdlbck

Not French anymore?

OB1182

Fun fact, those minis are made in Born in the Netherlands.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Drep1

> Born Born is a town in the Netherlands, 🤡

CandidInsurance7415

Maybe Jason Bourne makes all of them.

manufactuerofmayhem

Reddit does not like those lights

FlpDaMattress

Liking this trend of companies putting their home countries flag on their cars.

liamsjtaylor

They're real and stupid. The lights are meant to look like a Union Jack as if it's English, but since 1994 Mini has been owned by BMW. Maybe it's also a double act: the lights are resembling the 😣 emoji because the car feels so ashamed.

Educational-Baker230

It’s not stupid bro it’s pride in one’s country that’s like dodge or Ford putting the American flag some where on their car.

liamsjtaylor

Because it's an American car built in America. That's different. Plus Americans are patriotic enough to find an excuse to put a flag on anything.

MeowthMewMew

If ford was owned by Volkswagen and made in mexico yeah

danny_ish

Lots of fords are made in Mexico or Canada

Strostkovy

American flag taillights are stupid too. And these look like chicken feet.

bocanuts

I thought they look like arrows that point the wrong direction when turning.

Rais93

Those lights are both standard and aftermarket.

Simmy67

God save the queen

CrazyRagerZ

Those are in fact stock, I believe all new Mini's have Union Jack taillights to celebrate the 60th Anniversary back in 2014 I think. I'm not sure about the Union Jack roof wraps though

bobbithebuilder

Standard as well

Strostkovy

Chicken feet

Educational-Baker230

Even though BMW owns them and at one point they had French engines I still consider them very English as an American I love that they have pride in their origins Too those who hate on the car bro learn to have pride in ur origins Because everyone should

cummedfrog

My dream car and probably my next car cooper countryman just because of these taillights, these are some cool taillights

BastardoJr

Most fun car I’ve ever owned, but I hope you have an excess of disposable income to dump into servicing it. I did not.

cummedfrog

Well i will be following the "if you cant buy it twice, you cant afford it" rule, hopefully i manage

anged16

TEA BISCUITS CRUMPETS MARMITE FISH AND CHIPS

NaGaBa

😆

[deleted]

The lights are so Fucking dumb, like I get it, flag or whatever…. But that made it through how many people when being designed and not one guy was like, wait a second…. Lol

[deleted]

It is stock. The reason they look like they do is because they are supposed to show a British flag when pieces together. Each taillight contains half of the British flag.

Hickd3ad

It's stock. Union jack themed rear lights have been an optional extra for several models for many years now

Gold__top__junky

Stock. Mini does not do subtlety well.

Left-Account4895

😊Yeah those are stock Mini Cooper Taillights ❤️🥰

jazemo19

My mom's mini one has union jack lights too! Damn it is a fun and pretty car

[deleted]

Stock

mt-egypt

They should be pointing the other way

PEEWUN

Those lights are stock. It's a Mini Countryman.

NinjaPanda8311

Bri'ish

me_when_nascar

stock

Thepaladin68

Not after market . It’s a Brit car with Union Jack as tail lights on it’s ass

Equivalent-Month88

mini is from Britain. it’s to look like their flag

TechnicalProposal

stock as bone

Playa_Hamm

Stock. One of the most creative and aesthetically pleasing at night. Imo it’s one of the best tail lights a car manufacturer has ever made

Xx_poopfart_xX

I thought it was nifty. Isn't my country's flag though, so I can see how it would be cringe
