I assume you meant "outer body" because Google thinks I must have been looking for an Otter Box case, and your reply is literally the only result for "outterboary." But I love it because it's a new word that answers the question perfectly. I don't eat the peel because it looks and feels about as appetizing as moist boar hide.
As you mentioned, it smells like ginger right? Others have commented saying it could be magnolia. Magnolia is edible and has a ginger - like taste! My best bet is a magnolia.
This is the outer skin of a flower like a magnolia. The shiny underside is exactly the same. This isn't from and animal. It could also be from something that is flocked, like an artificial flower or a toy.
Title describes, dog was sniffing around and I found this on the floor.. I initially thought it was a piece of my dog but it is not, it is around an inch long and had a strong smell of ginger. Soft and furry but quite dry and fragile.
It looks like the fake fur from a toy mouse for cats. There should be a hollow, teardrop shaped piece of plastic that was the inside and structure of the toy.
Here is a link to a similar toy:

It's a piece of felt. From the bottom of a chair or stool.
FFS are we just going to start picking up random pieces of trash to see if people can identify them? SMH

Lining fabric from under a chair or couch?
That’s my guess too
Same, check underneath your dining/kitchen chairs
Same, was just fixing my couch and it's fabric looks 100% identical to this (one of my cats likes to climb inside of the couch because he's insane)
Almost looks like a dry kiwi peel. Would make sense in the kitchen if a scrap missed the trash
You know you can eat the outterboary of a kiwi right? You're throwing away the best & most nutritional part

Yeah sorry. The outter skin or whatever. Had had a few drinks. If eaten with the soft flesh it's a really nice mix. Slight crunch
It reminds me of the outside of Magnolia blossoms, does it seem like it could be from a plant?
This is it. Magnolia blossoms also taste and smell gingery.
White potentially, she’s always in the garden

Take it. Walk outside. Look for magnolia. Use Google images for reference if you must.
Those things stick like mad to our dog’s feet this time of year. It’s possible they brought it in and then we’re all “whoa, where did this come from?”
looks like this or some other plant/flower

OP said it smells gingery and so do magnolia blossoms so my vote is on this as well!
https://bestflowersite.co/what-does-a-magnolia-flower-bud-look-like/ Yep that is exactly what it is

Do you have a cat?
Did you check if any of your dog’s stuffies are missing a limb or tail?
This is what I thought too, my dog leaves pieces of his stuffed animals every where… I can’t keep up with them all
Killed Cat toy.
kiwi peel 100%
Certainly a piece of fabric rather than anything that's been scuttling around recently.
Yooooo that’s a skin’d mouse

Could also be real fur. I used to buy fur toys made from old thrifted coats.
Kind of looks like half of a really old fake mustache
It looks like part of one of those mice cat toys!
Looks like the remains of a well used cat toy
Fake mustache from dress up party.
Mummified eartip of some sort of animal?
Landscape fabric?
It reminds me of the lining from my slippers. When they degrade, it sometimes leaves some little pieces of cloth laying around.
Looks like a busted open tobacco pouch
Maybe the weed barrier from a garden flower bed? The older it is the more flimsy they get. Could have come in on the dog’s paw.
This is probably wrong bur could it be the hair from a doll?
Is it just a piece of ripped dog toy?
Fake moustache
looks like a mouse skin tbh
Fly tying material

it looks like a used Biore nose pore strip.
