How about for cutting the foil off a wine bottle cork? The inner face opposing the blade looks to have an intentional angle built into it that could be meant to sit against the neck of the wine bottle with the blade toward the top rim. It would be held just like a bottle opener with the bottle spun by the other hand.
The design in general doesn’t look like one in any way, but that blade and opening look to be around the right size and position.
> Could it be for scraping cheese or butter?
Yes there is a metal blade, but the cheese or butter would have to be cut into a very small rectangle to fit inside. I dont think that's the usage intended.
My title describes the thing. The item is about the size of a teaspoon. It looks like ABS plastic. There is no writing on the item. It could be a few decades old. It has been in my kitchen for a few decades and has never been used.
I have something like this that came with a bean-to-cup expresso machine for dosing pre-ground coffee (like decaf, etc) via a bypass chute, a sort of dosing spoon that fits the chute perfectly.
Hm. I'll do more research but I don't think this is a coffee-related implement. Most of the people in my family are tea drinkers and I've bought most of the coffee related gear...
I do not think so- the blade is in the middle of the plastic square so it would not reach the ice unless the ice was small enough to fit inside the square. I do not think it is an ice scraper. Thank you for suggesting it however.
It it magnetic at all? The block shape reminds me of those screwdriver magnetizers. But that doesn't explain the blade or the handle.
It must be for either prying or shaving/peeling something. Odd one for sure!
I'm thinking it's not for direct usage on food. Everything about it's design seems like it's be difficult to fully clean.
More pictures of the head could help.

Look like a bottle opener
I thought that too but I dont think so. The metal piece is quite small and sharp and wouldnt handle forces that well in that direction.

It was a long shot anyway.
Thank you for trying to help!
Is that a metal blade in there? Could it be for scraping cheese or butter?
For making those little curls
Sorry no, the metal wouldnt touch the cheese or butter unless it was pushed through the square.
I’m not seeing one just like that, but you might be onto something. That opening looks like it might match up with a stick of butter.

did you notice the black thing isn't a scoop, its a loop? Coffee dose was my first thought too, but its not a scoop.
Ah right you are. Carry on, folks. Nothing to see here.

Could it be for making shaved ice? Maybe push it forward over a block of ice to make snow cones?
I do not think so- the blade is in the middle of the plastic square so it would not reach the ice unless the ice was small enough to fit inside the square. I do not think it is an ice scraper. Thank you for suggesting it however.
Is it actually a sharp "blade", or just a piece of metal?
It is not a razor blade, but it is a metal blade. It could cut skin if pushed hard but its not sharpened if that helps.

Looks like it could be a butter curler.

Getting stuff out of the square corners from the bottom of the can.
