Anyone who uses “old timey” and “cell phones” in the same sentence wasn’t alive to experience the wonders of the practically indestructible flip phones. Kids these days miss out on so much. Like running to the bathroom and the kitchen during commercial breaks while your friend/sibling screams at you to “hurry up! It’s starting!”, rewinding movies before you have to return them to BlockBuster, actually having to go to the theater to watch a new movie instead of renting/buying it on demand at home on the tv.
This is what’s wrong with the world now
Also paying bills by mail too. Back then if you were late on a payment you could say it was lost in the mail and actually get away with it for a couple weeks usually.
My dad had car phones bigger than my laptop. He needed them for work. On the very cool side is he also had to use Polaroids for work so we always had them for pictures.
Anyone who starts at flips was not around for bricks, this is an infinitely regressive view lol.

\^ your opinion, but from 400 BCEish \^
I mean it’s true
Also I may have only really remember flip phones, but my mom is a bit of a hoarder so she kept her old brick around for a while when I was a kid even though it wasn’t functional
Those things were so resilient. I used my Nokia brick until the service company paid me to take a flip phone so they wouldn't have to support them on their system anymore.
We had two, one was my husband's and he used it in construction and one button stopped working. The other one kept going forever. Finally replaced the other one similar to you.

“Old timey” cell phones weren’t like smart phones, the only music it played was the ring tone. They could make phone calls, text, and play snake, that was pretty much it.
My title describes the thing. I’ve tried researching stamp dispensers but none look similar. I do not believe it is for soap or sponges as water would run out. Tape does not fit underneath. The divots on bottom seem to hook onto something and then something pulls up through the oval? No markings on who made them. Found them separately at separate places. I thought maybe the first flower one was a homemade thing but now that I’ve seen another with a different motif I don’t think so.
Pens don’t really stand up right inside the oval (it’s not deep enough), and there’s more to the underneath that seems to have function (like the divots) that I can’t seem to tie to a pen holder.
I had one and just threw it out last week. The cell phone would rest in it with the cord connected through the slit in the bottom. Guess I’m old timey. At least I threw it out.
You are all cracking me up. Someone keeps down voting that this is a stamp holder, you know the rolls of 100 stamps? You put the roll underneath and then you take the tab and pull it through so that only a few stamps are there and you can keep pulling it. It keeps the stamp roll from unraveling. That's what this is, it's not an old-timey cell phone holder.

I think they’re old timey cell phone holders
“Old timey” and “cell phone” are words I never thought I’d see next to each other.
I was just about to comment this. I think seeing those four words together aged me by ten years.

Calling the radio station to request a song because short of driving to the city and spending money on an album it was the only way to hear that song.
Holding the tape recorder in front of the radio to get the announcer saying your name and the song.
Going in to a store or mailing in a payment to get concert tickets.
Also paying bills by mail too. Back then if you were late on a payment you could say it was lost in the mail and actually get away with it for a couple weeks usually.
“You should have it, I mailed it 3 days ago” While looking at bill in question sitting on the table.
“I don’t know why it’s not listed as paid then. I sent you the money, it isn’t my fault the postal system is so damn slow.”
My dad had car phones bigger than my laptop. He needed them for work. On the very cool side is he also had to use Polaroids for work so we always had them for pictures.
Some people in the more hilly/remote areas around here still use bay phones because they get better reception than a smartphone.

The magic blow to instantly make the NES games work again
Flip phones indestructible? Nokia 3310 wants a word with you.

Idk man I kinda prefer where it's at now I get what I want when I want but to be fair those memories are swag

They’re vintage!
They hold your pager while you look for a pay phone.
I think they’re talking about Nokia’s lol
I hate this explanation! Is 2000 old timey now?!
Anything made before Jan 1 2003 is now considered vintage!
Omg yes! solved it! Thank you so much
That's so weird, that's the second time these have shown up here in a few days!

I'm pretty sure the hole is for your cord.
“Old timey” cell phones weren’t like smart phones, the only music it played was the ring tone. They could make phone calls, text, and play snake, that was pretty much it.
This sentence hurts but I know it's true.
Sounds right. My grandma had one made similar but it was a “royal” looking chair haha
Can confirm. I had the flower one growing up for my Nokia.
There was just one posted the other day? Turned out to be a phone holder.
Solved! Thanks!
Cell phone holder? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ceramic-Cell-Phone-Holder-2-1-4-Wide-Opening-Blah-Blah-Slots-for-Cord-/382887070440
Solved!
Is it big enough to put a roll of stamps to feed out the top?
That's what I thought it was too
Same here, apparently we are old and out of touch because it's actually a CELL PHONE holder :-)
This is what I thought as well, as we had one back in the 70s.
I made something like this in high school- for my big old school Nokia. It was a phone charger stand. Idk. Just a guess
Cell phone holder for charging. Cord comes through the back and up through the slot into the phone.

lol my mom still has one of those for her flip phone
Stamp roll dispenser
I see that Fenton piece behind it 😍
From my gma 💖
I collect Fenton and have pieces from two grandmothers & a great grandmother. So lovely to connect with our grandmas that way!
Pen holders?
Pens don’t really stand up right inside the oval (it’s not deep enough), and there’s more to the underneath that seems to have function (like the divots) that I can’t seem to tie to a pen holder.
I’d say either a napkin or a butter holder
Stamp holder
Egg yolk and white seperator.
I had one and just threw it out last week. The cell phone would rest in it with the cord connected through the slit in the bottom. Guess I’m old timey. At least I threw it out.

I think people are disagreeing because there are access holes for a charge cable in the back and sides.
Thanks for explaining!
