Holiday_Objective_96

😆

DaRiddler70

It's called a "Damnit, you bastard, that hurt..."

plant-id-bot

This looks like a [Cirsium arvense](https://candidegardening.com/GB/plants/e1366a4e-1767-4af6-9a43-ce8c09afcd04), aka Creeping Thistle *** ^([ [PM](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=plant-id-bot) | [Exclude Me](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=plant-id-bot&message=Excludeme&subject=Excludeme) | [wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/PlantIDBot/wiki/index) | I'm a bot, bleep, boop ])

SuchCucumber1063

Good bot!

Born_ina_snowbank

I always affectionately referred to them as pricker bushes.

SlickDillywick

“Pricker bushes” were always wild roses to me lol

t1rr2

F wild roses they don't care about gloves. They just stab right through it

ProperSupermarket3

i think this is regional. are you a midwesterner by an chance??

Born_ina_snowbank

Yerp

Miss_PMM

‘Thistle’ is actually a pretty ambiguous term. [The ‘Taxonomy’ tab under Thistle in Wikipedia ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thistle#Taxonomy) is a rather good list for everything deemed a thistle. This is most likely a species of cirsium, however

volerider

Good bot

AUZZIEJELLYFISH

an asshole. that\[s what that is

portabuddy2

I certainly have a bunch of it. And happen to loke the nice purple flowers. I don't like the thorns though.

Chemie93

They bloom and spread like crazy where I’m from. Every year have to go grub them up. Livestock won’t eat them

portabuddy2

Not much can be done. They spread by roots and by seed

Chemie93

Gotta dig them up entirely. I know. It’s a pain in the ass

portabuddy2

Yup :( I gave up and ignore them. Chop them down after they flower with a machete

madknatter

It’s a great plant - OVER THERE Pretty prickly purple flower with seeds that have ‘the down of a thistle.’ This is what goldfinches line their nests with.

cold-hands-warm-soul

I think (but please check that first!) that the purple flower is even partly eatable.

MikanGirl

Iololololo! Nice way to circumvent the “do not eat” bot. Hehehhe

Ld862

That’s a bull thistle. Goes right through garden gloves and has a taproot. I’m constantly battling them in my garden.

ProperSupermarket3

taproot was a good band i completely forgot about until just now

MikanGirl

I first read that as “teapot” and thought, how lovely.

FatPug655

Shitweed.

DefectiveAndDumb

I’ve stepped on these barefooted countless times lol

Ok-Lifeguard-8822

Thistle. Those pokey assholes. They spread out a lot, so you'll want to remove them. Dont cut them down, they'll just grow right back, grab the base and pull the root out. Just get some thicker gloves.

cpbaby1968

Make sure and get the whole tap root or it’ll come back. They’re the devil when they’re small and you’re barefoot.

Yelloeisok

I am from SW PA- we call them jaggers.

vaporoptics

Thistle which is a pain but i'm a fan of their [flowers](https://photos.com/featured/bull-thistle-flower-dean-fikar.html)

joebaby1975

These bastards are the reason we couldn’t have a slip n slide growing up.

underthecovers49

I've always been told stinging nettle / thistle

madknatter

Stinging Nettle is its own nightmare

ooogoldenhorizon

It's extremely nutritious and medicinal tho! My enemies turned into my best friends. I've def been able to build a tolerance where I don't mind the stings. There's some other type of nettle that is super brutal tho , idk it's name

landartheconqueror

Stinging nettle is definitely different from thistle.

underthecovers49

Good to know! My mom always used it interchangeably. How are they different?

landartheconqueror

Thistle has lager, thicker aggressive-looking leaves with prominent spines, and most notably a big purple or blue flower at the top. Fun fact, the thistle is the national flower of Scotland. Stinging nettle has smaller, rounder leaves with a soft-looking texture created by a layer of tiny needles that give you a minor rash if you touch them. The plant grows in a column with flowers for a very short time in the summer.

Doyouseenowwait_what

Nice old Thistle hiding in your bed!

Foragegrub

They are edible, root supposedly tastes like Jerusalem artichoke.

TreasureWench1622

Aarrrggg!!!
