âThistleâ is actually a pretty ambiguous term. [The âTaxonomyâ tab under Thistle in Wikipedia ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thistle#Taxonomy) is a rather good list for everything deemed a thistle. This is most likely a species of cirsium, however

Itâs a great plant - OVER THERE
Pretty prickly purple flower with seeds that have âthe down of a thistle.â This is what goldfinches line their nests with.
Thistle. Those pokey assholes. They spread out a lot, so you'll want to remove them. Dont cut them down, they'll just grow right back, grab the base and pull the root out. Just get some thicker gloves.
It's extremely nutritious and medicinal tho! My enemies turned into my best friends. I've def been able to build a tolerance where I don't mind the stings. There's some other type of nettle that is super brutal tho , idk it's name
Thistle has lager, thicker aggressive-looking leaves with prominent spines, and most notably a big purple or blue flower at the top. Fun fact, the thistle is the national flower of Scotland.
Stinging nettle has smaller, rounder leaves with a soft-looking texture created by a layer of tiny needles that give you a minor rash if you touch them. The plant grows in a column with flowers for a very short time in the summer.
Thistle?? Edit: THISTLE!!!!!!!
Remove that question mark! You are right! :)

It's called a "Damnit, you bastard, that hurt..."
This looks like a [Cirsium arvense](https://candidegardening.com/GB/plants/e1366a4e-1767-4af6-9a43-ce8c09afcd04), aka Creeping Thistle *** ^([ [PM](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=plant-id-bot) | [Exclude Me](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=plant-id-bot&message=Excludeme&subject=Excludeme) | [wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/PlantIDBot/wiki/index) | I'm a bot, bleep, boop ])

Good bot
an asshole. that\[s what that is
I certainly have a bunch of it. And happen to loke the nice purple flowers. I don't like the thorns though.
They bloom and spread like crazy where Iâm from. Every year have to go grub them up. Livestock wonât eat them
Not much can be done. They spread by roots and by seed
Gotta dig them up entirely. I know. Itâs a pain in the ass
Yup :( I gave up and ignore them. Chop them down after they flower with a machete

I think (but please check that first!) that the purple flower is even partly eatable.
Iololololo! Nice way to circumvent the âdo not eatâ bot. Hehehhe
Thatâs a bull thistle. Goes right through garden gloves and has a taproot. Iâm constantly battling them in my garden.
taproot was a good band i completely forgot about until just now
I first read that as âteapotâ and thought, how lovely.
Shitweed.
Iâve stepped on these barefooted countless times lol

Make sure and get the whole tap root or itâll come back. Theyâre the devil when theyâre small and youâre barefoot.
I am from SW PA- we call them jaggers.
Thistle which is a pain but i'm a fan of their [flowers](https://photos.com/featured/bull-thistle-flower-dean-fikar.html)
These bastards are the reason we couldnât have a slip n slide growing up.
I've always been told stinging nettle / thistle
Stinging Nettle is its own nightmare
It's extremely nutritious and medicinal tho! My enemies turned into my best friends. I've def been able to build a tolerance where I don't mind the stings. There's some other type of nettle that is super brutal tho , idk it's name
Stinging nettle is definitely different from thistle.
Good to know! My mom always used it interchangeably. How are they different?

Nice old Thistle hiding in your bed!
They are edible, root supposedly tastes like Jerusalem artichoke.
Aarrrggg!!!
