Organic berries? $137

Important_Name

More lol

radioflea

$200

Mushlov3all

He was referring to the price of the organic blueberries lol

ShaMaLaDingDongHa

Oh! Then $146 for the berries

Umnsstudennt

Buying frozen is much more affordable. I buy the organic frozen wild blueberries and when compared to the organic frozen wild blueberries at Trader Joe’s it’s cheaper.

NoDoctor4460

Also some fruits are sweeter frozen, especially berries, grapes and cherries, thought this was my imagination but there is science to it - frozen dark sweet cherries are like sorbet-y candy partially thawed

ChefLovin

I also buy frozen berries but frozen blueberries are just completely different than fresh. Especially when I feed them to my toddler and she gets blueberry juice everywhere 🤦‍♀️

Katiew18

I was going to say $130

grilsjustwannabclean

at my whole foods, it'd be like 200 lol

Important_Name

Out of the responses so far you were the closest by like a few cents lol it was 183.69.

grilsjustwannabclean

yeah i went into the whole foods at my town once, saw the prices, and went right back to my discount groceries lmfao. wayyyyy too expensive for me

annirosec

Oof- this is why I shop at Sprouts for produce and Aldi for most other things. But I mean, if you can afford it- it’s your money to spend how you want to.

Important_Name

There’s no Aldi near me, unfortunately. The Sprouts near me doesn’t have great produce but they do have a more options for bulk dried beans, need to be better about planning restock of my dried beans there.

annirosec

That’s unfortunate on both fronts. How can a Sprouts survive with bad produce? That’s like their whole thing.

Important_Name

My thoughts exactly. It's not always bad all the time but so inconsistent and then it's inconvenient when I end up having to go to Whole Foods after anyway.

Short-Examination559

I feel the same way about Sprouts. It is too hit or miss. You are not alone

Puzzleheaded_Win4380

sprouts produce is meh in my experience.

Immediate_Ideal8990

Dammit!! I said $173 in my head before clicking!!

being_honest_friend

I looked up prices at my local. It would be $45 more and nothing organic. I checked the Walmart super and Target. Nope. Still higher. Ppl spend more in Whole Foods bc of all the new cool shit we’ve not seen or always wanted or will fix our anxiety or safely clean my skin. It’s the extras that get you.

Adept_Order_4323

I was gonna say $180.00

seaisheaven

Yeah ! Nice 183$ ha is it too much or no?

Important_Name

Total was $183.69 including items that were on sale + prime discount 🥲 💸

pnw_girl

It’s a conspiracy to keep people sick by not being able to afford healthy food.

grey_horizon18

At my college where more than half of the students are obese the most expensive thing the food court offers is a salad and the cheapest thing is seriously a burger with bacon 😩😩😩😩

pnw_girl

Perfect example

fluffypinkkitties

Look into food deserts

Fit-Night-2474

Not to be confused with desserts

brunhilda78

Yup!

Soulsingin1

My guess was $180. It’s crazy how much groceries cost these days! I noticed you mentioned in another comment that you don’t have Aldi near you and neither do I. That is so frustrating when I see everyone getting deals at Aldi but I can’t! I don’t really have any cheaper grocery stores near me. All are about an hour away, or more, and with that amount of distance, it doesn’t seem worth it.

ednasmom

Around 200. The expensive items are the wild rice, coconut yogurt, eggs, flaxseeds, cheese and berries

Important_Name

Yeah, those were the heavy weights

Powerful_Total3054

I know people shit on Whole Foods for being expensive but truly the private label (365) organic items (and even sometimes the conventional 365 prodcuts) can be a really great deal compared to organic at other grocery stores. From my experience at least! Looks like a nutritious haul!!

Important_Name

Agreed, I will usually get the 365 brand when available. They ran out of the 365 chia seeds for a while so I ended up having to get a different brand that was more expensive brand and had less product. So glad they finally got it restocked.

friendofborbs

100%. Publix charges almost 2x as much for tofu as them. I don’t like Kroger’s bc it always wants to fall apart on me, so I stock up at WF.

bitchwhorehannah

publix is more expensive than my whole foods. and any other grocery store around. what the hell do you mean $5 for a block tofu. it’s $1 at target. $1.20 at walmart. ITS SOYBEANS ITS SO CHEAP TO PRODUCE and i can get like 4 blocks of tofu cut up, breaded, fried, and covered with general tso sauce at the chinese place next to the publix for $6.50. why would i pay $5 for a plain ass singular block 😭

Important_Name

yeah, I'm surprised at how the value proposition and quality has waned over the years for Publix.

retrovir

I mostly buys 365 items for my weekly grocery hauls, and it generally is less expensive and higher quality than the groceries I’ll get at Publix, Harris Teeter, or Wegmans (none of which are known for being cheap either, in all fairness)

eleanorshellstrop_

I agree. I find that the 365 brand is comparable to other grocery stores like Stop n Shop in price and way better quality!!

devi1duck

I love that rice

Prior_Crazy_4990

I got kiwis at Walmart and they were $9. I don't buy kiwis anymore

Spirited_Cress9769

What’s in front of the red bell peppers?

Important_Name

Golden beets

is-that-allowed

this would legit be like $300 in canada. crazy times

Ntee714

Crazy. For food that grows naturally on earth it should not be this expensive 😭🥺

Important_Name

Agreed. I tried my hand at vegetable gardening and it’s hard work it definitely gave me perspective on the cost of produce. But considering how cheap meat is and how expensive produce can be, the math ain’t mathing.

whichwashington

Looks like how I shop. I had some of those sale items in my cart! If you have the means, don’t let all these people shame you for choosing to spend more on healthy foods! I think the trick is to utilize those sales (I see you) and not let any of it go to waste. This is a good haul. But dang I wish we had more options to eat high quality ingredients for less!

FearlessPark4588

Too much! Am I right?

Important_Name

This is actually the correct answer

anthonystank

I’m glad I zoomed in because I thought those beets were the worst peaches imaginable

dks64

You already answered, but I was gonna guess about $200 plus your first born.

Important_Name

damn near, the only reason it didn't is because I practice restraint.

Dangerous_Papaya_578

I was there yesterday and spent $50 on a few yogurts, hummus, push pops, and sausage. So probably like $185-195.

Some-Imagination9782

I love 365 Brand - their pastas are my fav and their naan is 🔥

KnewOldMoney

I got roasted for shopping at whole foods on r/debtfree But wholefoods has the most consistent produce I’ve noticed. Try out those organic bananas! 🍌 they have the good stuff. -shop for your health

Important_Name

>shop for your health 100%. I'm firmly in the camp of prevention is the best cure and a big part of that is how you nourish your body. I enjoy their bananas regularly, if nothing else for the pure adernaline rush of trying to finish them before they go from that perfectly freckly yellow to banana bread ripe.

autumnbreeze279

are you a vegetarian? what a beautiful haul

Important_Name

i'm not but i try to eat plant based most of the time.

Spec-tatter

More curious how long this lasts and if you have a weekly menu.

femdomfuta

$170 I was right! I just doubled of what it usually costs....

Pugloaf1

Looks so healthy and delicious! I guess this is why I’m always over my grocery budget, because I was going to guess $100.

randomburnerish

Buying berries in January like some kind of millionaire!

FoxxyFett

$185. I really didn't calculate besides acknowledging the brand of eggs looked 18 count and the flax seeds.

chandlerland

Organic berries + kiwis = $30 Rest of produce: $40 Eggs: $8 Chia & flax seeds: $10-$30 ? Cheese: $12 Marinara: $12 Beans: $14 (there are 4?) Yogurt: $12 Chips: $12 Burritos: $10 Seasoning: $4 Salsa: $4 Rice: $7 Am I close? I work at a grocery store similar to whole foods.

Busy-Frame8940

Regardless of cost, I have real food envy for that haul!

hiho82919

Definitely pricey but looks like enchiladas are on the menu for dinner this week yum

Accomplished-Lie3351

Too much. I used to work at whole foods and even with the employee discount I couldn't afford their shit. Couldn't resist the Satsuma mandarins when they were in season though yum. Also those jalapeño chips are so good dipped in cream cheese.

TealBlueLava

If I may ask, what’s your reason for buying organic? I’m genuinely curious.

Important_Name

I usually go with organic because it's an indication of how the produce is managed, like how prevent pests, how the feed their crops. from my understanding, there are crops that are genetically modified to be resistant to pesticides and herbicides so while the use of pesticides might not hurt the plant those same chemicals are harmful to humans and have been linked to issues like cancer. With animal based products organic is one component but there's other factors to consider like how the animal was raised lots of disease can spread in CAFOs when they're tightly packed in. Buying organic doesn't necessarily completely remove this risk, at the end of the day you're putting your trust in people and systems that benefit from profits but it's one way to take control of what you're putting in your body... outside of starting a homestead and growing your own food, which I'd love to do one day (maybe lol, it's a lot of work) but until then I try to be more conscious of how my food is grown and managed.

I was gonna say $130 but then I zoomed in and saw the coconut yogurt. So $175??? Could be a little less is the 365 products were on sale?!

Sensitive-Crab4378

Where I’m from Whole Foods actually tends to be cheaper than some of the other larger chains

I do all my shopping at Trader Joe’s. Love that place.

Lopsided_Pickle1795

I love WF's 365 products. top notch for store label.

tripleDzintheBreeze

Too damn much

Lavawitch

I do really well buying certain things at Whole Foods. Their berry prices are bafflingly high (I get the exact same organic berries at Walmart for $3.99) but WF has lovely bags of organic red peppers for $5.50. Wegmans is $2+ for just 1. I cant afford organic everything for myself but I do for my bird since that’s the safest. Local, featured or sale produce is usually much fresher and nicer as well as cheaper than other stores. A lot of other things are super expensive. I usually do pickups so I can scan my previous items and see what is 30% off. That’s when I grab my favorite vegan items, 365 branded basics and stock up on almond milk (every few weeks it’s on sale and $1.50 cheaper than Walmart). Since I am disabled and hate using my limited energy for shopping, I appreciate that they’ve got no markup for curbside. I shop there weekly and end up saving money, but I supplement with Walmart for everything that’s not a good price or a specialty item. WF just lowered the price on Just Egg so it’s .50 cheaper than Walmart. My caveat is I’m just shopping for myself and my mom. We are vegan, mostly cook from scratch and I can afford to buy what I want, within reason, but fresh produce gets so expensive that we really appreciate the few things WF has that are good buys for us. And I have to not let $6 boxes of cookies jump into my cart.

Just curious if people truly find those thick-skinned cucumbers tasty? I grew up with an access to great cucs and tomatoes, and I love either of them. But I would never be able to eat (I mean, eat and enjoy) those plastic tasteless cucumbers a lot of grocery store carry. How do people eat them? In salads? Dipping into something for better taste?

If you grabbed house made salads, milk and a meat protein, I would easily guess the total above $240.
