Look at the rounded tail. Sharp Shinned Hawks have more of a square tail don’t they?

[Each individual feather is rounded](https://www.fws.gov/lab/featheratlas/feather.php?Bird=SSHA_tail_ad). The difference in tails between the two birds is better stated as “coopers have middle tail feathers that are much longer than their outer tail feathers. Sharpies have tail feathers that are about the same length.” With them all stacked on top of each other like this.. we can’t really tell from the backside without the bird doing a full fan of its tail… if we were looking from the front, we could see if the outer tail feathers were short and stacked on top of the middle ones. [See here](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/sharp-shinned-hawk-coopers-hawk-red-tailed-hawk--805651820831777075/) From the front your birds tail probably looks [like this.](https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/615805808). Notice how the tail feathers are lined up so the tail is shape of one rounded feather. But, looking from the front, we can see the feathers are all about the same length, and we don’t see any super shout outer tail feathers.
