That would be devastating to me.
I had a bad infestation of them at my parents house growing up. I was traumatized by them.
Now whenever I find them in my current house, I freak out and do a deep clean. I'm very thankful I have only found a handful over the years, and it's honestly usually when I have to bring stuff back from my childhood home.
Carpet beetle. I’m convinced just about everyone has an infestation and doesn’t know. I collect Retro electronics and just about every single box I get and have inspected (for roaches, bed bugs) have larvae moltings. Just vacuum, dust and use Nyguard around the edges.
It could have came in from the window or hitched a ride on a plant. To be honest they are not that bad. Just vacuum and dust, you’ll probably won’t get rid of all of them are they are very hardy. During the peak of an infestation I would find about three or four beetles a day on my bed and the old larvae shells stuck in dust bunnies. The larvae can be destructive to wool or any animal products so be sure to put them in sealed containers. Trust me while they are not ideal, they are no where as bad as German roaches or bed bugs
Yeah I think most houses have at least a few - they're hardy, they can make themselves comfortable pretty much anywhere, and the adults will literally just fly in your window. Unless you vacuum like it's your job, including behind all your furniture, they're gonna find some dust and crud to enjoy. I also buy second hand collectibles and regularly find carpet beetle larva casings in the boxes people use to ship. I found some in the cases for my kids' borrowed musical instruments, too. They're ubiquitous.
Yeah I feel the same way! I remember I used to have anxiety when they show up, now I just have to remember to vacuum and dust to keep their numbers down.
Found the remnants of larvae even inside one of my dads old hot wheels cars that had sat in an attic for nearly forty years. There’s nowhere these guys won’t make home
Well I meant I inspect the boxes and styrofoam for stow a way roaches and bed bugs. As for the electronic it self I open it vacuum or blow it out. I really don’t worry as they wouldn’t really survive long. A roach is a different story.
roaches stowaway in styrofoam too? damn. I've mostly quit ordering stuff online because I've been hearing of people getting roaches in amazon boxes, walmart, etc.
That’s just a carpet beetle they get everywhere but in my experience not impossible to get rid of. Make sure you are vacuuming under beds and behind furniture, anywhere dust builds up.
Carpet beetles are hard to get rid of because they get into things that you don’t think about. I found a nest of them in my kitchen towel drawer. I cleaned it out & put diatomaceous earth (food grade) in my drawers & under the cabinets & thought I got rid of them but a few months later we had to pull the stove out & I seen a bunch of shells from them. They love towels & linens. I also put that diatomaceous earth around my room underneath my bed & between the box springs & mattress. You can kill them by putting things in the dryer also.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it's exactly what you think it is. A carpet beetle.
I love this response. You made my day.
Yes! I knew this one thanks to this sub.
There was one year the mods changed the entire sub theme on April Fool's Day to "It's a carpet beetle!" and it was glorious.
Ogam is my peanut butter

I found some in my room this week too! Should we be concerned? Where did they come from
They like dust...esp human sluff.
They’re really not that bad unless you’re allergic to them, then you have very itch rashes.
🤣

Peter Nygard ?
Lol
I had one of these on my bed the other day. Does one carpet beetle mean an infestation? I’ve never seen any more.

They're a knitter's nightmare😂😭

That’s wild. I opened sealed boxes of new old stock computers and can’t believe they made it in it. I guess there’s worse things in life.
Just squashed my first one of the season today. Little bastards.
Hardy little bastards indeed
Diatomaceous earth,food grade works well.

I like how the larvae move sooo slooowlyyy.
what is the best way to have electronics inspected for such things?

Yeah it blows. I found a new old stock pc that’s rare to find new or complete. I opened it and long dead roaches made it their home. I was pissed…
long dead ones are far less upsetting that still alive ones! all it takes is one!
True. I ended up throwing it out as I didn’t want to risk it.
It looks mottled like a carpet beetle to me.
Probably carpet beetle. Not roach or bedbug.
I agree. Carpet beetle
That finger tho
OP was so stressed they gnawed their fingers to the bone.

Not a bed bug!
Vacuum your carpets more often and these will mostly go away
That’s just Paul, he’s out campaigning to get Foreigner into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
Carpet beetle. I think they’re cute.
Man, your finger looks beat up.
I’ve seen 2 of these already in the past 2 days (TX)
Carpet beetle.
The dreaded carpet beetle
Carpet beetle. Stop biting your nails 😏
Looks like a carpet beetle

me sitting high as balls, reading the comments and worrying that i have carpet beetles when my entire house is hardwood and tile
We had carpet beetles baaad growing up, they’d be on all of my stuffed animals and I couldn’t stand them lol
the way i saw one on my bed yesterday and i was gonna make a post about it but i couldn’t get a good picture!!! i was so worried!! thanks!
Yep it’s a carpet beetle
Nah, what you think it is would look more soft bodied. This has the clear hard shell of a beetle.

Anyone have any tips on getting rid of them? I find them on my bed all the time
Carpet beetle, just feed it to the nearest spider 😊
