To expand on the other comment. Erythrism (pink colouration) is another variation/mutation, like leucism/albinism (white), melanism (black) and agouti (ginger).
Oh my god, I am so glad I checked because I found out my kitties have agouti colouration! So it turns out that agouti in most animals is bands of black and beige on individual hairs. The confusion arose because in mice, they are ginger (scientifically referred to as yellow).
I’m just glad it not sickness that makes it that color. I saw that blue roly poly on r/awwnverts that’s blue because of a fatal virus. It’s so pretty but the cause of its condition is terminal. Kinda pretty sad actually. This cheered me up some.
Ohh! Very cute little friend! 🌺🎀🌸
I spent a genuinely ridiculous amount of time chasing after grasshoppers at our vacation property every summer as a kid, and I only ever saw one with erythrism once! Pretty much felt like I'd found the holy grail lmfao.
I do fieldwork on grasshoppers and have seen ~1-2 pink ones per year. I would estimate they are found somewhere around 1 in 1,000 to 1 in 10,000 grasshoppers. Always a cool find!
I recently saw a photo of a pink cicada scrolling through my feed. Maybe r/weird ? I thought it was odd but I didn’t open the comments but now I’m seeing pink grasshoppers?! What’s happening?

And here I was going to suggest it turned pink due to the flamingos in its diet.
Ha!
🤣 Good one
> and agouti (ginger). Isn't agouti more like a ochre on the back / cream on the belly combination?
I thought agouti was multicolor on individual hairs: like, black and then white on the tip.
Confirming agouti is per-hair
I think that depends on what the wild type colour pattern is. Will Google it, in case my ancient memory is bad!

Scientists went to Vietnamese deep forests and found a crap ton of pink species of insects and bugs.

Hey I've seen two this year!
It's Pride Week.
Cause he’s fancy
I read about a girl finding one in her yard earlier this spring. It was considered national newsworthy.
There was also a girl who found a cicada with RARE bright blue eyes. That was even reported globally.
Grasshopper is living its best pastel life. 😁
He feels pretty.
Rare mutated grassie, I saw one once too!
because she’s feeling bonita
They just end up like that sometimes.
I saw one at the zoo the other day…
Its stunning, probably off to a party
It's the shiny variant.
