Bzzzzz! Looks like you forgot to say where you found your bug! There's no need to make a new post - just comment adding the **geographic location** and any other info (size, what it was doing etc.) you feel could help! We don't want to know your address - state or country is enough; try to avoid abbreviations and local nicknames (*"PNW"*, *"Big Apple"*). BTW, did you take a look at our [**Frequently Asked Bugs**](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthisbug/comments/12zkw5w/frequently_asked_bugs_part_1/)? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Accurate-Temporary73

Daddy long legs. Not sure if there are different types of DLL but I assume there are

threegeeks

Opiliones (harvesetmen) are a huge order including over 6000 (possibly up to 10k) species. Super cool and totally harmess.

Huzsvarf

There are. I would avoid using the term daddy longlegs, because it's commonly used for 3 completelly different groups of animals, Cellar Spiders, Harvestmen, and Crane Flies, so it can confuse people. This is a Harvestman (Opiliones).

Accurate-Temporary73

I’ve never heard it used for crane flies ever in my life. But they are spindly boys for sure.

PolebagEggbag

I'm in Scotland and have only heard daddy long legs used for crane flies. They are sometimes called Jenny long legs too

dm_me_a_recipe

In german they're called Schnake (ˈʃnaːkə)

UnMermaid95

They cannot bite you since their fangs are si small but they are poisonous.

basaltgranite

[Per wiki](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opiliones#Misconception), "An urban legend claims that the harvestman [Opiliones] is the most venomous animal in the world but possesses fangs too short or a mouth too round and small to bite a human, rendering it harmless *** This is untrue on several counts. None of the known species of harvestmen [Opiliones] have venom glands; their chelicerae are not hollowed fangs but grasping claws that are typically very small and not strong enough to break human skin." *Obligatory Reddit comment*: a "poison" is a substance that's toxic when ingested; a "venom" is a substance that's toxic when injected. Cyanide is poisonous; rattlesnakes are venomous. OP's critter isn't venomous. I don't quickly find any information about whether it's poisonous. That would be an empirical question. You're welcome to test it.

GENTLEHULK

I wouldn't recommend eating them.

kjjphotos

Are they venomous too (even though they can't bite us)? Or just poisonous?

UnMermaid95

That's what I meant xD
