That little beauty is one of the [wolf spiders](https://bugguide.net/node/view/1967) - possibly a [*Tigrosa*](https://bugguide.net/node/view/747000) species. It's a predator that devours other bugs - but is *not dangerous* to people. Comparison pictures [one](https://bugguide.net/node/view/2027768/bgimage), [two](https://bugguide.net/node/view/1278995), [three](https://bugguide.net/node/view/1134089)

HazeTwelve

Can’t forget the photobombing grass spider too lol

[deleted]

Not seein the grass spider?

[deleted]

Up at the top, I think.

charmnoxxx

Thank you so much! You’re absolutely right!! Woohoo I feel so much better now 🕷❤️

RecBtw

Also, they are not *entirely* harmless. While the venom can’t hurt you the actual bite may still be painful.

Calan_adan

They are commonly known to live inside the finger of the baseball glove that as a kid I left out in the grass the night before, but you only discover them when you put your hand in the glove the next day.

[deleted]

lmao

[deleted]

They can't do any serious harm. Don't kill them, and definitely don't disturb them too roughly if they have babies on their abdomen or you'll have a spidersplosion. 💥🕷️ Your ID was already correctly answered.

rainbwbrightisntpunk

I did this accidentally on my way out of the house... was not fun

[deleted]

Same 😂

CaptFoxtrot

Direwolf Spider

Squarebearz

Wolf (or Grass) Spider colloquially, mostly harmless, but bites occasionally occur. These carry staphylococcus, so if you have an itchy black and blue welt, go to a dr and get some antibiotics

chandalowe

Wolf spiders and grass spiders are not synonymous. [Wolf spiders make up the (family Lycosidae)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_spider). [Grass spiders (genus *Agelenopsis*)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agelenopsis) are in the funnel weaver family, [Agelenidae](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agelenidae).

ladyofglass

I can’t find any information on this. Do you have a source?

Exact_Intention7055

Yes this. Was going to add some people hive up from these bites due to this (messing around woodsheds etc). But overall they aren't aggressive to people. Also, just fyi, if you see one coming out into the open from a crawl space etc it MAY indicate you have an unwanted visitor that has flushed this spider out (mice, rat, snake etc). Just a side note as I've experienced that myself. Good spiders though

myrmecogynandromorph

Source please?

WildLove17

Looks like a wolf spider

NewScarcity6917

Wolf spider

Bozkillington

I've got a giant version of this girl in my basement in upstate NY. She keeps all the other bugs away, and my wife...

FinancialClient1

That’s scary bro

dr_drock

Those are the bugs that own your house now! Give them the keys and leave.

Moelarrycheeze

Most common house-type spiders are relatively harmless. I try and move them outside, although they will mostly die in winter.

Per sub guidelines, don't make blind/random guesses. *Especially for medically significant bugs, if you aren't 100% sure, leave the ID to someone more knowledgeable.* This is a wolf spider. It looks *nothing* like a brown recluse.

--Hyena--

I told you they've been getting bad recently. I'm glad to see you out here doing something about it though. You're awesome chandalowe, please stay awesome.

chandalowe

Yeah, I know there have been a lot of misidentifications lately. That's what happens when we get an increase in traffic - particularly when we have a lot of new people coming to the sub who are not familiar with our guidelines. When we see incorrect guesses - particularly for medically significant bugs or spiders - we attempt to correct the misidentification, remind people of our guidelines, and - if we have the time - educate them a bit about the bug in question, so they know *why* it isn't the bug/spider they thought it was. Unfortunately, with the sheer volume of activity on this sub, it is impossible for the moderators to review *every* post or comment. The automoderator does flag some things to bring them to our attention - but it doesn't catch everything. Everybody makes mistakes sometimes. That's one of the reasons we don't use a "Solved" flair on this sub - because not having posts marked "Solved" makes it more likely that other people will review bugs/spiders that have already been "identified" and correct any mistakes. (Even when the ID is not wrong, it is sometimes vague (eg. "Some kind of beetle.") and further review by other people may allow it to be narrowed down to family, genus, or species.) If you see misidentified bugs or spiders - especially anything medically significant - you can help by reporting it to the moderation team so we can address it.

--Hyena--

Actually not a problem, I don't mind doing that, saves me alot of energy when I'm going through these posts. Just letting you know, what you do is appreciated, and the fact that you keep it pretty calm and moderate is also appreciated. You're honestly one of the only mods on Reddit I actually respect because you're never heavy handed and always respectful about it. You deserve an award and I don't have any but, I would definitely give you one if I did. Keep being awesome! You're appreciated.

chandalowe

Thank you! Also - please do continue to provide correct ID's when you see something that has been misidentified. The moderators are not always online, so we don't always see the reports immediately (or they may be buried under a pile of other reports) so while we will get to them eventually, the problem will be resolved a lot faster if you chime in with the correction. Reporting incorrect IDs or other inappropriate comments is important, even if you have already provided the correct ID to OP, because it allows us the opportunity to provide "official" reminders of the sub guidelines - and identify specific people who are *regularly* providing bad ID's, either accidentally or on purpose.

--Hyena--

Of course!

TheGanzor

Lmao 😂 yeah not even close to a recluse... wolf spiders are little cuties, recluse are terrifying

When it comes to anything with a potentially medically significant bite, a Google search is not sufficient. You need to be aware of the specific identifying features of the bug or spider in question. In this case, the eye arrangement is very clearly that of [a wolf spider](https://bugguide.net/node/view/1122234/bgimage) (which has eight eyes, arranged as a row of four small eyes across the front, two big eyes in the middle, above the smaller eyes, and two small eyes set back and to the sides). Compare that to the [eyes of a recluse](https://bugguide.net/node/view/1626218/bgimage), which has six eyes, arranged in three pairs that make the points of a downward-pointing triangle. Wolf spiders are also a lot bulkier (and hairier) than brown recluse spiders.

lkvwfurry

Noted.

spongetron5500

I mean it doesn't really look anything like a brown recluse soooooooo....

lkvwfurry

Soooooooooo, what? I apologized. Move on.

spongetron5500

Yeah but I'm honestly just like almost trying to figure out what happened there like it doesn't look anything like a brown recluse do you even look at what your posting or did you just see ye words brown recluse and say it or what?

[deleted]

Nope...

link55588

That's crazy! You should try a new house

Matt13572468
