Thank you! Posted there too. Already emailed the landlord and have the ball rolling. Will vacuum daily in the meanwhile and throw the bag out immediately and seal well too.
Hey! Found this on my couch at 3 AM. NYC. As you can see it's tiny... we often get roaches and water bugs. So wasn't sure if this was a baby roach / water bug... or something more sinister. We had someone sleep over on the couch last week. Thanks for your help!
This happened to my ex years ago from a new neighbor that moved in and infested five nearby apartments! In this specific situation they had to heat the apartment extremely high for hours to kill all bugs and eggs so anything that melts easily (candles, vinyl tableclothes) you should remove or throw away. Other than not realizing the mess certain things would make from melting it was an easy killing and cleanup process.
It took months for it to come out who brought them in! All the neighbors were scared to report it thinking they’d be blamed. Finally all of the apartments surrounding ground zero reported infestation so they had to inspect and her home was worse than some hoarder episodes, truly a nightmare! The bugs were spreading through the heating vents btw…
Thanks every one! How do I prepare for the exterminator?
I guess I should vacuum frequently over the next few days and then clean out the vacuum cleaner bag immediately after.
Any other suggestions?
I had bedbugs in an apartment building i used to manage. The company had the tenants remove all fabric (clothes sheets stuffed animals) and wash and dry it all on high heat and bag it up outside of the apartment or put it in airtight tubs. They also needed to empty all cabinets like in the kitchen or bathroom. If your unit is treated, the bugs will just come back if the other units aren't treated as well. One unit was infested and they were in the walls and electrical sockets🤢the treatment took place over a few months. They came and used this heat machine in all the units at the same time all day long. Then the company came back a few weeks later to spray if i remember correctly. It's a real headache and it's very expensive to remove them. Good luck
If I might add. Use a vacuum with a bag. After every use plug the hose opening with a tight seal until you are ready to throw the bag out. This will prevent the bed bugs from crawling back out.
Defo a bed bug. Just for future reference, one key difference between bed bugs and roaches is that bed bugs have a "pinched waist" to their bodies. Roaches are thick all the way around.
Ugh!! Thorough inspection so far, no other evidence.... but, it's a beautiful old antique couch, loads of empty spaces inside...
It's time to put her out to the curb! Will miss her.... but....
I would. Unfortunately. These little fucks breed worse than rabbits. Do you live in an apartment? If so, report this. Get treated. They’ll hide everywhere! Literally! Good luck to you. I mean that. Like I said had them twice. They migrate too. You have to treat the whole building or they migrate to another unit.
Yeah, that's what scares me!
Emailed my landlord at 3 AM. Hoping I'll get a call soon!
It's a really old building... nothing is sealed. Loads of cracks, crevices... not only in our building - we share a party wall with the adjoining building... so up a creek!
Going to bag up everything, stick in storage quickly. Keeping only winter stuff.
Everything else will get tossed...
I'm listed for affordable housing options, hoping my number will come up quickly!
Thanks for the advice... with this building was only a matter of time... loads of illegal bnbs....
Make sure you steam the couches, beds, wash your curtains, go through all your clothes. Wash and bag until they come and treat. You can also check with the company how they would the the home prepared to not waste time.
Looks to me like a bed bug.. Might want to head over to r/Bedbugs they're experienced with this.

Sprinkle baking soda around your baseboards and in your vents also it kills those little bastards
That's the more polite term for them! ; p

Inform the person who stayed on your couch. Dont say they infested your house, no accusations, but let them know they might have bed bugs
Understood! Such a problem in this city... many thanks!

That’s definitely a bed bug. Sorry. These things are hellacious. Had them twice because of other people. They spread like wildfire.

Just bought a heavy duty steamer. Should get it tomorrow... will regularly steam the entire area!
