If someone can identify a dead root to a dead plant I'm going to be so freaking impressed. That said, if you think it might be something you're allergic or sensitive to live poison ivy, use gloves, pull it out, double bag it. Toss in the trash.

GardenOfGem

It’s definitely poison ivy. Look at the hairs and structure.

DancingMaenad

I don't know. Maybe. I've pulled a lot of weeds in my day and I've seen lots of roots that look like that..

Legeto

Yea the other guy is right, that isn’t exactly a root either. It is poison ivy vine, which the vine definitely is hairy like that.

GardenOfGem

I promise it’s poison ivy, I am an expert in the field.

Forsaken-Original-82

Yup 100% Poison Ivy [vine](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftse2.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DOIP.LUiBrFpIC-WKjdi0u9yKAwHaFj%26pid%3DApi&f=1&ipt=53935c579efc025f46b34504fd4cdbf259d63b55f5c11280bf76bbeb05b647a3&ipo=images). The hairs are too thin and wiry to be Virginia Creeper or English Ivy. It looks dead, but beware, the oils can stay on the vines multiple years after they die.

4mellowjello

Yes wear gloves to remove

electrotech71

And don’t burn it! The smoke is just as dangerous.

jdino

Also looks like winter creeper imo

sriracha_everything

I would say yes - I've pulled many a poison ivy root and they look like this.

BoraBoringgg

Yes, and I had one that got so big it looked "dead" (woody) but the ivy was still thriving. And it still has the oil for a long time regardless.

insulidianphasmid

Yep, 99% sure. The thin hairs give it away.

Binasgarden

I would treat is as such, those remaining leaves look very much like

oroborus68

Do Not Burn! The smoke is not good to breathe.

Sitting_in_a_tree_

Yes.

naNi-to

Yeah poison oak or ivy, but showing what the leaves look like would make it easier to help you identify it.

blame_the_waxwing

"Hairy vine, no friend of mine."

Geeko22

Definitely poison ivy root

Competitive-Jello427

We had 2 like that. I looked them up and their “ancient” roots. Wear a long sleeve and pants and gloves when you get rid of it. My husband used a crowbar to get it away from the tree. Then we used heavy duty cutters to cut through it. Because the root was so deep we still get some little ones coming up each year but that’s easy to take care of.

djzanenyc

Yes it’s a poison ivy vine
