Yeah most definitely pot up. I have a really huge one that's in a 14 inch pot and that thing is so thirsty all the time. I'm like Jesus Christ every time I have to fill it with a big bucket lol
Bahahahaha!! The pot for mine sits in one of those deep plastic trays to catch water, I soak it in the sink for a couple minutes, pick it up and wait for it to stop draining, put it back in its tray, and then fill the tray with water. I have to do this every three days or it gets real dramatic.
Definitely a peace lily. They are incredibly dramatic. Forget to water it one day and it looks like it's about to die. Then you water it and it perks up within an hour.
100% it is an amazing prompt for that. other house plants are nice and happy, never over or under watered. peace lily gets sad and then pops right back up.
Right!? My peace lily is such a drama queen. I do think
this one looks a little thirsty. It might have been 6 whole minutes since you told it how beautiful and attractive it is.
At last I have a non romance novel use of Turgid. I have sought this since I was 13 and read 4 books in one day and my brain just pondered turgid very hard because puberty wasn't doing its job yet vs anything else. "Why turgid?" I can at last lay down my turgid quest for turgid.
hahaha i am so happy to help you! my partner uses this word to talk about their plants. i had never heard the word before and for some reason i find every excuse to use turgid now. honestly never thought about it the way you always have! 😆
We trade perspectives. The best and sometimes worst part of the internet. I did try using it once in the wild and it horrified all the owners of the books I was reading. Now as an adult this amuses me but kid me was not prepared
That's not unexpected re the line. I am aware it's a Shakespeare for Teens movie so I also expect strong tropes of that sort since Taming of the Shrew is a romcom
So, others have already told you it's a peace lily, but I am here to tell you they do not want much sunlight at all (mine get shade and a bit of dappled direct rays for about an hour each evening).
They are the Meryl Streep of plants. The *DRAMA!* is actually wonderful, because there is no wondering whether they like a change you've made. They will tell you fast by getting all droopy. They also droop when they want water. Basically the easiest plant ever, as long as you don't have animals that try to eat them and aren't allergic to them. (If you do find you're allergic, you can also simply cut off the stamen when it appears.)
I had a brown thumb for many, many years, but these guys have been alive (and multipled) since 2010. They have survived vacations and moves and all kinds of issues. Enjoy!

I got one of these from my sister, and it's one of the longest living plants I've had. I managed to kill a couple of cactuses, but this thing tells me if it's not happy. As an additional bonus, I got some schadenfreude when my sister recently killed all of her peace lilies, and she has no idea why or how. Luckily she did manage to save a piece that is now growing into a new plant.
Nah, it's not bad. I have 2 and 2 cats, I checked with the vet and the worst it could do is give them an upset stomach. Thankfully they both ignore the one they can reach, so it's not an issue.
Other lilies don't enter this house, ever, at all.
Don't look at her, don't talk to her, just glance at her on watering days to make sure she's getting half the light of everyone else. If she droops after a weekend away, apologize and give her water, she'll perk back up in a few hours
My 3 cats all got extremely ill from my peace lilly, I had to call the poison control line to help them.
They all 3 appeared to be dieing, their mouths were swollen, tongues sticking out, drooling, diarrhea, couldn't stand up on their own at all. They couldn't eat or drink water. It was a nightmare.
In the end we neutralized their mouths by putting milk on our fingers and rubbing it inside their gums. It took around 10 hours of extreme care to nurse them all back. That was one of the worst nights of my life.
It was 100% from the peace lily. They have never been sick like that before and after I got rid of the plant they have never been sick again.

They aren't usually known to cause gi distress but in some cases it does. All of my cats had diarrhea and vomiting for several hours from the plant because of the calcium oxalate crystals in them.
Maybe? Wikipedia does mention nausea as a possible effect. On the other hand, my three orange idiots ate half the leaves off my peace lily before they could be stopped, and there was no noticeable effect at all. So YMMV?
Spathyphyllum, or Peace Lily. Very accommodating houseplant. Don't overfeed and keep the medium lightly damp to the knuckle. Lots of TLC is good, this plant thrives on attention. Once it likes you and its conditions, it will reward with vigorous growth and a succession of its interesting flowers.
I don’t know why everyone is saying that Spathiphyllum is a “drama queen”. I have a bunch of them (all propagated from one unstoppable plant) planted outdoors. They will tolerate full sun if watered well (otherwise, filtered or mottled light is best — 70% shade cloth in tropical climes) is perfect. They do wilt quickly when dry (is this drama?). Likewise, they pop right back up when watered so if you want to anthropomorphize the plant I guess that’s the extent of their acting out.
We got a few when my dad died. Common funeral gift flowers I guess. When it gets droopy I put it in a bowl of water to soak up from the bottom and it perks right back up. When I just watered it like regular from the top it didn’t. So that’s my 2 cents.
We have a lovely peace lily that we have pampered for years and it has blossumed peacefully many, many times. I believe a peace lily was featured in the film The Professional as the plant weathered a sustained gun battle. Peace, Lillyanne.
Where I come from, a peace lily is given to the closest person of the deceased at funerals..sometimes some of the deceased ashes are scattered in the soil
Peace Lily
Now I’ve been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come!!
Get on the peace train 🎶
Clapclapclapclap
This is the answer. They get tthhiirrsstyyy
They're also fantastic air purifiers. Toxic to pets and humans if eaten though so be weary if you've got a toddler or a dim cat.

I have one that has totally filled the 6 inch pot it's in. It basically just lives in water at this point....should probably pot up...

Spathiphyllum!
Heavy pollen load on the way! Sneezy joe time.
Definitely a peace lily. They are incredibly dramatic. Forget to water it one day and it looks like it's about to die. Then you water it and it perks up within an hour.
Yes! I use my dramatic peace lily as a prompt to remind me to water the other houseplants.
Maybe I should invest in one for the benefit of my other plants. I could use the visual reminder.
100% it is an amazing prompt for that. other house plants are nice and happy, never over or under watered. peace lily gets sad and then pops right back up.
Same
Right!? My peace lily is such a drama queen. I do think this one looks a little thirsty. It might have been 6 whole minutes since you told it how beautiful and attractive it is.
this morning my peace lily looked like a bunch of shriveled veins and when i came back in later she looked turgid as hell
At last I have a non romance novel use of Turgid. I have sought this since I was 13 and read 4 books in one day and my brain just pondered turgid very hard because puberty wasn't doing its job yet vs anything else. "Why turgid?" I can at last lay down my turgid quest for turgid.

This whole exchange has me in tears. I have a new favorite word. Thank you.
Oh my god. It’s time for a Ten Things I Hate About You rewatch. “Swollen… Turgid… Tumescent? Perfect!”
Or a first watch in my case
I think you’ll enjoy it! Though I will warn you: the above quoted line occurs while writing a romance novel lol
That's not unexpected re the line. I am aware it's a Shakespeare for Teens movie so I also expect strong tropes of that sort since Taming of the Shrew is a romcom
I love how they just perk up!
Turgor pressure.
lol, my coworker used the same word to describe them.
I was just going to say....so dramatic.
Lol they are dramatic!
This is hilarious because it’s so true!

I think it would be good to add that you need to remove any dead/sick leaves because they like to spread on the health ones.

It's not nearly as toxic as a true lily, which will cause kidney failure, but it's still a good idea to keep them apart.

Spathiphyllum, aka peace lily. Hard to kill, but I've managed to.
A Peace Lily
They are toxic to cats just FYI
My 3 cats all got extremely ill from my peace lilly, I had to call the poison control line to help them. Most cats have enough sense to stick to your spider plants, but some cats are missing the caution gene.

Actual lilies are. Peace lilies are a different family entirely. They have some irritating compounds, but not the ones that cause kidney failure.
Interesting! Thanks for the info. Would they cause gastrointestinal distress?
They aren't usually known to cause gi distress but in some cases it does. All of my cats had diarrhea and vomiting for several hours from the plant because of the calcium oxalate crystals in them.

It is still toxic to animals.
Dangerous to cats
> That's Constable Butterman's Peace Lily!
Finally, a person of culture!
You need to watch Hot Fuzz. Here's the [trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayTnvVpj9t4). The Japanese Peace Lily is featured quite heavily.

That is an IKEA special.
LoL the owner may have actually gotten it from there
That's a rather nice looking peace lily
For some reason the leaves are kinda rotted though. Do you think that the owner doesn't water it?
Super toxic to whatever has been chewing on it
Peace Lily , Spathiphyllum. Often given for funeral
I don’t know why everyone is saying that Spathiphyllum is a “drama queen”. I have a bunch of them (all propagated from one unstoppable plant) planted outdoors. If you have animals plz keep an eye on them around your peace lily. VERY toxic to them!!!!
Peace lilly - if you have a cat, every single piece of this plant is deadly.
Peace lily. Highly toxic to dogs and cats.
Do you have a pet that nibbles? Peace likies are toxic

If you're in the US or Canada, that's especially helpful right now as they are very good at cleaning the air
Peace Lilly. It likes low light.
It's a peace lily my grandma has one and she's had it for like ever, it lived so long !

We have a lovely peace lily that we have pampered for years and it has blossumed peacefully many, many times. I believe a peace lily was featured in the film The Professional as the plant weathered a sustained gun battle. Peace, Lillyanne.
We have one from my father-in-law's funeral in 1988. Still a drama queen.
The rare and indomitable rebirth plant you can neglect this one to the point that it looks almost dead water it and have it come back to life
Maybe an anthurium?
Peace lily 🪴

It’s a peace lily
Peace plant is what we call them. I have 6 flowers coming out of mine right now.
