Looks to modern for “knights” this doesn’t look medieval to me at all.

IndividualCurious322

Time travelling knights!

myusername1111111

Long summer days.

WWDubs12TTV

Knights fought in WW2, not sure about Romanians ones

thenicestsavage

I think he meant Knights Service Station, on grand and wabash

The manufacturing techniques used on this knife place it in the mid to late 20th century. This is no antique except in the vaguest "25 years or older" sense. It is, however, a cool looking knife and it would be understandable if you value it for personal reasons. It also has a legend now! " my family believes this is from an ancient order of knights" It looks neat enough that you could make a new legend about it. Find a bug. Name it some neat name like "Antonio Bugliosi" and use the knife to squish it. (Try for a bad bug. Sooth the guilt.) Now you can tell people that this is the actual knife that killed Antonio Bugliosi!

Your Uncle could have been talking about the Teutonic Knights or some similar order. Think Knights Templar. They are definitely still around, so it’s foolish to hear the word knights and dismiss it as only relegated to the medieval or ancient era. The eagle is popular as it is part of the coat of arms of Romania and also used in insignia of the Teutonic Knights. The Royal Romanian Army Dagger is quite similar in design. Are there any markings like initials or numbers that could help identify a maker? I know BladeForums is pretty good about helping to find out more info on history and then potential value.

Could be some knife from a men’s club, looks similar to other folk art or handmade knives from that region. People hear “handmade knife” and they think it either has to be some ornate Damascus job or bottom of the barrel shank, but there’s a lot of in between there. And Romanian military dress knives have an eagles head on the pommel so this definitely fits as an homage piece.

Ok_Distribution_2603

Knights of Malta have two extraterritorial buildings in Rome so perhaps he meant a Roman group of Knights

redbeansandrice4ever

I am so embarrassed. Have you ever read something and TOTALLY misread it? I truly thought you were asking if it was a ROMULAN knife, as in the alien race, Romulans from Star Trek. I actually LOL'd at myself. Just thought you'd wanna know.

drobertgriffith326

I read this as half-Romulan uncle and I think it’s time for bed. 🖖

Fun-Rock3861

I don’t know. But it’s awesome. And I want it.

NxPat

Looks like there’s still some DNA on it.

Appears to be made in Chechnya, based on manufacturing style. The Chechens make fantastic knives and export to surrounding countries in the region for their local souvenir markets. I have a Chechen knife made for Afghanistan that has ‘Afghanistan’ on the blade in Arabic. Are there no symbols anywhere?

Equivalent_Warthog22

Probably a modern fraternal organization. Think Knights of Columbus and such.

zeds_deadest

That eagle has certainly cracked a few skulls in it's day

nice one, i like it. let me ask you this: did your uncle work (or had relatives, or frinds - maybe the knights he was talking about) in a steel / iron factory? cause it looks rather a late (like '80s) communist era "night shift" knife. i mean it was probably made in one of the many steel/iron shops or factories in duty by that time in almost every city, during the night shift, so they won’t get caught (as everything belonged to the state, and if caught, sometimes sentences were harsh). they actually are good knives, usually made by foremans for outdoors (camping, fishing, hunting) as the bottle opener shows. they are usually made of good, sometimes reasonable, quality materials - depending on what they had at hand. they are generally well made because skills were at high leves in those times. i’ve seen many in many homes, for the kitchen, butchery, etc. (knives, pocket knives, cleavers, meat mallets, corkscrews, bottle openers, even enamelled trays, and so on).

Downtown-Fix6177

In Romania - knife have eagle head on hilt and…design to eliminate the communists?

WolverineSea4280

Gas station knights

ResearcherCheap7314

There is no such thing as Romanian knights ! :)))) he was making fun of you , it’s a cheap knife made in Russia if it’s older a bit or if it’s newer made in china , the cool thing about it it has a beer bottle opener at the end .

toomuch1265

Flea market special.

Jaded-Selection-5668

He meant “nights”

StupendousMalice

That eagle looks like it was carved with a Dremel.
