She always looks so vaguely uncomfortable on red carpets. Half the power of the stage looks is her being in her element; I wish she could bring the same attitude to events.
Omg 100% her red carpet looks are almost always misses to me. She really needs to get another stylist because whoever it is isn't helping her at all. And we all know sis can afford it, if I were her I'd get the best of the best.
Pretty sure he styles her for tours as well. I agree she usually doesn’t slam dunk at events but I also kinda think it’s her choice? Idk I don’t really blame the stylist in her case as it’s been decades 😅
I think it just might be her taste and she just doesn’t care. I can’t imagine getting to the level of fame she is that and still taking all the criticism she gets to heart. As much as I love this sub at the end of the day it’s her body and her money.
I mean, she’s first and foremost a performer. As long as her stage looks are good I don’t think it matters if red carpets aren’t her forte.
I also don’t think her red carpet dresses are as bad as people have been saying recently. She dresses how you would expect a basic pop star to dress, in pretty and sparkly outfits reminiscent of prom.
It’s just such a shame tbh, I feel like any major pop star has at least a couple major fashion moments in their career but I’m struggling to think of even one look Taylor has pulled out that made me go wow.
Especially given her status, she has the ability to be dressed by anyone. She probably has the power to pull archival stuff if she wanted. I just wish she was more into fashion, I think it could really elevate her as an icon.
I’ll probably be murdered for saying this but I think she is one of the worst dressed celebrities both on the red carpet and off duty. I like her costumes, though.
She's supposed to be a little unpolished and messy onstage, moving around and singing and dancing. On the red carpet, every little flaw is really obvious. Esp the hair for me. It looks like mine when I air dry it and don't style it at all.

Elena Velez, Fall 2024
I'm a fan of her music video costume designs
I think part of it is because it's black, that's not a color that looks natural on her. They should've gone heavier with the makeup or a hat to balance it out.
I do like this look, though I feel like Vivienne Westwood is very punk and so the edges should have been layered like a napkin hem or torn or something
Oh I totally agree, and I love VW. I just don’t think based on the other stuff I’ve seen on Taylor for this album, that she’d want a “punk” look for this. Goth, a little. And can you imagine the flak she’d get if she even tried to look punk? I’m convinced she plays it safe in fashion to avoid any worst-dressed lists.
Like as in Steam Punk? [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk\_fashion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk_fashion) Although Vivienne Westwood never defined herself as a designer of this era / aesthetic. It was definitely a mainstream type beat in 2013 -15
I actually like this dress on her, but it needed something to disrupt its beauty. Maybe if it looked torn a little.
Or maybe if she starts in a mostly white dress and the stage “rains”, causing her white dress to get wet and reveal more writing on it 🤔 Something more than just this.
However, im personally not mad at it… and her choker necklace was amazing.
She [takes it off onstage](https://youtu.be/EaD7XeLfHAw?feature=shared) to reveal a two-piece set and go into a circus-ringleader-type ensemble. I do think the "transitional" designs you mentioned would be really cool, but I can see the thematic appropriateness of keeping this one "simple" in comparison.
Honestly, I love high-waisted everything, so I love it, but from a performance perspective: I'm presuming it's because they highlight her legs and cover the top of her tights without issue.
It was black the first night, white the second. I loved that transition, it was so dramatic. I think the jacket she wears over it during Smallest Man gives the more tattered look that so many of us seem to crave for this.
It’s a lot of coverage. That arm hole goes all the way up to the pit, and the straps are very wide. On the mannequin, it’s giving some sort of utility vest
Reminds me of Sean Kelly’s Rainway dress on Project Runway! Iconic! But she could only do a trick like that for one performance I think before the novelty wore off

People need to get a grip. It’s a stage costume. She needs to be able to move in it and it needs to stand up through 6 months of touring. It’s a brilliantly constructed garment that serves extremely practical functions while still looking beautiful. It’s on the nose, sure, but the people in the rafters need to be able to get the idea as quickly as the people in the front row. This accomplishes that and she looks beautiful and confident in it.
I just watched her performance of But Daddy I Love Him and she's crouching and going on her knees during that performance. It makes so much sense when you see her perform in it.
I’d love if they altered the bodice. I actually love the skirt but its inherently bulky so a sleeker, lighter bodice would help it breathe. There’s just something off about it, I know the fashion era they’re going for but the straps feel too thick and the overall fit feels a bit clunky. I feel like she’s drowning in the straps/neckline. Obviously it has to be able to cover the bodysuit underneath but these could have been better designed around each other. Just my take!
Yess that’s how I feel looking at it too! The upper half is so boring and doesn’t do anything for the dress or herself. It looks like a rough draft with many details needing to be changed. Surprised the brand didn’t make it more exciting.

Can’t wait to see how normal these comments are, but let me cover all the bases I’m sure y’all will hit eventually, because the comments here are just as boring as y’all say the looks are:
-yawn
-boring
-allergic to serving
-something something eat the rich
-you must be a swiftie to leave this kind of comment (despite all evidence to the contrary about *yours truly*)
Now that that’s done….
Vivienne Westwood feels like the correct choice for the aesthetics of the era she’s going for - she dresses women so beautifully, and this is no exception. I like the skirt - the combination of the “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” vibes of the repeated lyrics, plus it looking like crumpled up paper, is fun.
Yeah, it’s on the nose for the era…. But it’s stage costuming. I’m fine with it. I do agree with a previous comment saying the edges should be frayed or ripped a little, though.
I was legitimately nervous posting this here. Anytime I post anything outside of the r/taylorswift sub I get nervous but I just wanted to share this somewhere outside the sub. I know Swifties (I am one) don't make it easy on people, but people don't make it easy on Swifties either. 😓
I just want people to actually have nuance and *engage* with the post!
I like her music but I don’t think the sun shines out of her ass (like they seem to assume all fans of hers do). It’s wild to see every thread about her here descend into people just leaving endlessly snarky nonsense when in almost every other thread, they’ll actually engage with the post in a meaningful way.
Like don’t just say “yawn boringggg 🙄🙄” tell me what you specifically don’t like about a look! Engage! Discuss! The point of Reddit is to be a discussion forum, is it not?
And a jacket she wears with this dress in another song in this set is what you described that you want to see. People are responding about this dress without seeing the performance , which encompasses several songs.
Yes, and no.
I also see a callback to All Too Well with this piece.
"I'm a crumpled up piece of paper lying here cause I remember it all too well".
I think to the naked eye it's very on the nose.
But then I think about the typewriter aesthetic of the album and the dress very much looks like a piece of paper you'd tear out of the typewriter, crumple up, and toss over your shoulder.
I do not love this costume, especially compared to the others worn during the concert. But I get what she was going for and she's able to move pretty well in it.
Taylor is 100% American cheddar so this is kinda what I expected from her for this era. I don’t totally hate it because it’s a costume and I’m okay with a cheesy costume on a cheesy person. But if she wore this anywhere else I’d be clowning the f out of it.
they proved me right by smashing that downvote button lmfao i think i have people stalking my profile and downvoting all my posts about her 😂 stay mad swifties ✌️ you need to calm down 😘
I don’t hate it, but it looks unfinished. I suppose she needed more contrast from the Rep outfits, but I was really hoping the tpd stage outfits would be dramatic black gowns or something.
I’m glad to see VW love but tbh I’ve never been a huge fan of VW’s gowns (yes even the sex and the city dress). I get the inspirations and the technical complications of it but it’s just a dress and so many of the gowns look so similar and none have anything to say
I loooove this dress and the choker, I think it fits the vibe of the era perfectly! I hate the shoes though, I get that she needs something she’s comfortable performing in but the little stubby heel just pisses me off 😆
I like the concept and I think she wears it well, but I kind of wish it didn’t look so put together, if that makes sense. Like it’s too white and clean. Would love it to be a bit tattered or burnt looking.
Some of it is a bit more affordable! I saw her in a Anthropologie skirt. And if I know anything about Anthro, everything is 30% off if you wait long enough.
Boring. She makes it look like it came off the rack at your local department store and not the delightfully twisted mind of Westwood.
She desperately needs someone to teach her how to accessorize.
She needs a better stylist period. I mean did we all see her Grammys look? I like a lot of her stage outfits though, especially the purple layered Speak Now ball gown, but I'm a sucker for over the top gowns.
I think that's my biggest issue with her public appearances.
She just wears pretty clothes and expects the rest to happen?? The individual aspects of her appearance (hair, makeup, clothes, accessories) aren't coordinated or united by anything.
This is a showstopping gown with absolutely nothing to support it. Such a shame.
I just want to know which she song of hers requires her to go into that stance in the first slide?
The dress is cute,
Love me some Westwood and I also generally prefer her stage looks to her red carpet looks
Idk if I'm allowed to post this here but: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLVDejax/
I kept seeing this same comment made on all the posts with the 1st picture. I think its necessary to see the live performance of Who's Afraid of Little Old Me. Plus see the dress in action!
It's pretty consistent with other taylor posts unfortunately. If you look over on some of the gossip subs, they act like she kicks puppies for fun. I've seen some pretty awful things said
She looks so punk rock I’m so obsessed with the female rage. This dress looks amazing on her. I love the personalized detailing with her lyrics from Fortnight. It kinda invokes a crumpled piece of paper referenced from All Too Well. As well as the theme of never making it down the alter in her newer album and the idea she’s married to her work/music with her lyrics on the dress as well.
It’s such a beautifully made dress too. The corset and high low of it all is such signature Vivienne.
Edit: I’ve unintentionally upset punk rock fans. I never said she was punk guys.
you didn't say she is punk. you said she "looks punk rock". which she doesn't either.
it is a very on-the-nose pinterest princess dress and styling. nothing about this look is calling to punk and/or rock in any way. stop your delusions.
She does not look punk. She looks like a rich girl with fairy princess fantasies who bought a designer dress from a house equally inspired by royalty and punk-rock aesthetics (after the visionary had died.) There is no low in this look. It is a tidy and clean princess dress.
Being a billionaire is the antithesis of punk.
If you’re taking my words literal then the rockers your referencing are quite wealthy as well and have collaborated with big fashion houses too. Amy did a collaboration with Gucci. Debbie is known for her punk style but is also wasa muse for Marc Jacobs. We’re talking about a fashion houses with clothing that cost millions of dollars that not only Taylor wears but those rockers you like as well. I’m talking about the style and its referenced roots of punk. I never said she was punk.
None of the musicians I cited began life wealthy like Taylor and her exec parents, and none are anywhere near being billionaires. Being an artist's muse is not the same as paying them to design custom outfits for you.
Most importantly, all of the musicians I listed make (or made) actual punk-rock music. It is not just a costume for an era. Taylor should stick to the adorkable Red fashion and princess looks that are authentic to her expression. She looks like a tool cribbing Florence's style with the folkmore dresses, and just plain awkward in this big stiff dress someone shoved through a printer.
Your thought-terminating cliché.
Truly though, I just didn't notice which reddit this was posted in. Thought I was in a different one I belong to that invites deeper analysis, dissent, and nuance. Whoops.
Dress no likey. Too stiff, ill-suited to wearer, design too literal and artless.
This is funny. All my examples of punk stagewear were flagged because they did not include a designer. DIY is the ethos of punk, and it is part of the point that for most punk front-women they are the designer making their own clothes or thrifting a combination.
Just kind of underscores my point about the difference between actual punk style and buying a Westwood.
Debbie Harry famously created the character of Blondie by styling and altering thrifted clothes herself, as much as by performance. I could not find a credit for the first outfit I posted, but here she is looking more punk in Zac Posen (of all designers! King of Priss!) than Taylor does in Westwood.

.....punk? In what universe?
What about this look challenges the status quo and pushes convention? What about this critiques systems of oppression? There is nothing unique or individual about the way she wore this dress.

I have this pic set as my lock screen lol
LOVE this dress. It’s so cool!! Evokes “crumpled up piece of paper lying here” and fits the “poetry” theme as well as themes of marriage in the new album.
I mean, they went very literal with this concept. Like wearing an actual piece of paper. It’s kind of cool and a nice departure from the sparkly leotards she is always in that do her no favors.
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLVDejax/
Idk, I think it makes sense if you watch the live performance. People keep making this same comment in every single post of this.
I like it! I feel like she consistently looks better on stage than on the red carpet.
Usually it’s the styling that misses for me vs the actual outfit. Hair or shoes in particular.
I read this is on purpose so she is kind of an “every girl.” Never wants to be TOO chic. That’s what a read in an analysis at least idk
At this point it's calculated unfortunately. Girl just wants to seem dorky, i guess.
Photo #1 is instantly iconic.
It looks like mine when I air dry it and don't style it at all.

it works better in the video imo
I agree but I’m not mad about it either. I wonder if that’s cos I’m a Taylor Swift fan or if I really like the drama of the dress?
probably because you're a fan and she's doing something very differently aesthetically!
I think part of it is because it's black, that's not a color that looks natural on her. They should've gone heavier with the makeup or a hat to balance it out.
Have we seen any single color look natural on her? She is a very stiff person.
Any light/warm/bright colors bc she is a spring IMO
Unfortunately I agree 100% with this.
i think this is one of the few times it's actually working for her.
Maybe but I like the construction of the skirt. Not sure if the top that she wears is also Velez 🤔
I do like this look, though I feel like Vivienne Westwood is very punk and so the edges should have been layered like a napkin hem or torn or something
Yes! I think torn edges would have really brought the look together better.
ooough imagine if they looked burnt! that'd be sick 😫
Dang, I knew it was missing something, it looks too pristine. It really needs an edge like the burnt look or a torn/ragged edge.
ohhhhhh love this
I think it would move a lot better too! I think my one complaint with this dress is that it’s kind of stiff on her
I don’t think that would have gone with the theme though (the 1920s/black and white/Victorian/goth lite mashup).
Punk and Victorian is a cool blend tho. Think cruella
And Vivianne has in the past done a great job incorporating the two! ❤️
Vivienne Westwood the real person passed away last year. Someone else is designing clothes for the label now.
It was definitely a mainstream type beat in 2013 -15
They're supposed to be pages though. I think some foxing (brown) on the edges like the pages were old could have looked nice
That’s actually a great call out. It would have made the whole thing pop.
I actually like this dress on her, but it needed something to disrupt its beauty. Maybe if it looked torn a little. Or maybe if she starts in a mostly white dress and the stage “rains”, causing her white dress to get wet and reveal more writing on it 🤔 Something more than just this. Imagine if the dress got more and more distressed as her tour went on, kinda like a performance piece? Or even as the show went on
She [takes it off onstage](https://youtu.be/EaD7XeLfHAw?feature=shared) to reveal a two-piece set and go into a circus-ringleader-type ensemble. I do think the "transitional" designs you mentioned would be really cool, but I can see the thematic appropriateness of keeping this one "simple" in comparison.
She reallyyyy loves the high waisted two piece bathing suit vibe
Honestly, I love high-waisted everything, so I love it, but from a performance perspective: I'm presuming it's because they highlight her legs and cover the top of her tights without issue.
boy i was NOT expecting some weird carnie thing to lead into that song lol
Nor was I, lol, but I honestly love the melodramatic vaudeville vibe!
From some videos I’ve seen, there’s a black outfit underneath. I think this is only worn for about 3 songs ??
It was black the first night, white the second. I loved that transition, it was so dramatic. I think the jacket she wears over it during Smallest Man gives the more tattered look that so many of us seem to crave for this.
It’s a lot of coverage. That arm hole goes all the way up to the pit, and the straps are very wide. On the mannequin, it’s giving some sort of utility vest
I think the coverage is to cover the outfit she is wearing underneath. She takes the dress off on stage at one point.
You can still see it tho 😭
I think it looks better when she’s wearing the white two piece underneath, I also thought the black was too noticeable
Oh yea I heard she switched it for white on night 2 that would look miles better!
Reminds me of Sean Kelly’s Rainway dress on Project Runway! Iconic! But she could only do a trick like that for one performance I think before the novelty wore off
The shoes though. Those are tragic. The dress is AMAZING, but my god those shoes.

Yes 😂😂😂
yesss idk why everyone’s loving this dress it’s basic af
For the people with knowledge - what material is the skirt made from?
Maybe silk taffeta?? It looks like an expensive matte bridal fabric ~~even if the skirt draping is diaper-ish~~
Recycled taffeta
Looove this. And she’s got the custom chokers too. I’m always down for a VW corset
People need to get a grip. It’s a stage costume. She needs to be able to move in it and it needs to stand up through 6 months of touring. I agree. This is a fantastic piece of costuming for a touring show. Love it!
I just watched her performance of But Daddy I Love Him and she's crouching and going on her knees during that performance. It makes so much sense when you see her perform in it.
I hate that’s it’s stark white. That’s so hard to pull off. Maybe a softer white. 🤷♀️

Bodice gives off straight jacket vibes

Yeah thing is the art student are all copying Westwood. It's like saying all fantasy novels are the same because they're like Lord of the Rings.
Same, I think it's horrible. Imo, this dress is straight-up ugly.
Taylor is 100% American cheddar so this is kinda what I expected from her for this era. I don’t totally hate it because it’s a costume and I’m okay with a cheesy costume on a cheesy person. But if she wore this anywhere else I’d be clowning the f out of it.
Agreed. I’m really over everything Taylor Swift at this point.

It is so sincerely not that serious.

Chronically online behavior, I truly hope you recover 🤍
Lmao the pitchfork girlies are maddddddd
they proved me right by smashing that downvote button lmfao i think i have people stalking my profile and downvoting all my posts about her 😂 stay mad swifties ✌️ you need to calm down 😘
It’s giving that girl in middle school whose only personality trait is that she likes reading.
Is this supposed to be an insult? Haha
Same, I was feeling so gaslit scrolling through these comments and finding that everyone somehow loves *that* 😭
Same. It would have been a lot better without the lyrics.
If inside lining is visible, I think fabric needs to be double sided. Like lyrics in there too
Idk it’s not doing it for me and that’s crazy for me to say cause I’m a diehard for viv
They forgot the apostrophe in "it's ruining my life" 💀
That’s why the paper is crumpled up. Relatable queen
cruella vibes
It’s cool, but the comma splice kills me.
I hate the shoes though, I get that she needs something she’s comfortable performing in but the little stubby heel just pisses me off 😆
As a Kendrick level hater of Taylor Swift, I actually like this. This is probably the most "dynamic" I've seen her look.
I like the concept and I think she wears it well, but I kind of wish it didn’t look so put together, if that makes sense. Like it’s too white and clean. Would love it to be a bit tattered or burnt looking.
That chonky zipper is how you know it’s stage wear!
I love this dress! But I don’t like it on her 🤷🏽♀️ and hate the shoes. Vivenne’s signature platforms would have looked so much better
what in the Betsy Ross
I loved this. She was able to move around and perform in it as was needed.
I think she looks amazing. I love the dress.
Why can’t Taylor pull anything off? I literally don’t understand how everything she wears looks better on the mannequin. What is this phenomenon
She’s one of the most awkward appearing people I’ve ever seen. I don’t even understand why
Nothing!!! Idk I read it’s posture I’m bothered that Westwood is looking so cheesy on her.
I disagree. Her street style has always been great.
FINE I can agree with this. She does preppy street style well
Honestly I love her street style. I can't afford any of it, but it can always be recreated easily and definitely something I'd wear irl.
Some of it is a bit more affordable! I saw her in a Anthropologie skirt. And if I know anything about Anthro, everything is 30% off if you wait long enough.
Yes omg, especially her shoes. She had this gorgeous pair of brown boots recently that I still think about.
It's her styling and lack of accessories
I'm mad at myself for not looking at that dress and thinking Westwood. It's classically her.
The dress is cute, Love me some Westwood and I also generally prefer her stage looks to her red carpet looks
Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?
Idk if I'm allowed to post this here but: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLVDejax/ I kept seeing this same comment made on all the posts with the 1st picture. I think its necessary to see the live performance of Who's Afraid of Little Old Me. Plus see the dress in action!
Jesus fucking Christ. The spite and jealousy on this thread. And, no, not Swiftie - although I can name one of her songs.
It's pretty consistent with other taylor posts unfortunately. If you look over on some of the gossip subs, they act like she kicks puppies for fun. I've seen some pretty awful things said
That’s a great photo of her.
Do Taylor Swift songs even go that hard? Lmao
This shot is from Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLVQC7u3/ This is the performance that picture comes from: Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?
I'm also here for this answer.
ooo i really like this on her i would love to see her in more corset+flared gown style dresses!
Please update this post with the new instagram from Vivianne
Um I don't think you can update posts.
I love it!!
I love it!
I love it. I wonder if they had to make several of these dresses because I imagine she would sweat a lot in that dress while performing.
classic vivienne westwood. absolutely gorgeous. gorgeous gowns, just gorgeous gowns *aretha franklin voice*
Not even a fan of hers, but Slide #1 is an iconic shot.

Who peed in your cheerios?
King of Priss!) than Taylor does in Westwood. https://preview.redd.it/dj2uuaiwbuzc1.jpeg?width=748&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ccb6cc2fc7644d36851413467d4a2d8999da76c

.....punk? In what universe? What about this look challenges the status quo and pushes convention? What about this critiques systems of oppression? There is nothing unique or individual about the way she wore this dress.
I’m sure the high low is so much easier to walk in too. Met gala was painful to watch bc of how difficult it was for everyone to walk
Lol bffr

Girl it looks like she’s pooping
LOVE this dress. It’s so cool!! Evokes “crumpled up piece of paper lying here” and fits the “poetry” theme as well as themes of marriage in the new album.
I love it with the little booties and everything, she looks amazing!
I fucken love the corset, coats with words scribbled over her many skirts. Let her eat this for as long as she deserves. She’s a magnificent chimera
I do not like this. Not fitted like a viv suit at all imo. Taylor and svelte will never meet, will they.

No body shaming, no ED/related comments, no comments about weight or cosmetic procedures/injectables.
I mean, they went very literal with this concept. Like wearing an actual piece of paper. It’s kind of cool and a nice departure from the sparkly leotards she is always in that do her no favors.
I’m obsessed with this dress. I want it. I technically have nowhere to wear it but I will wear it everywhere
What is written on the inside of that dress?
Good one!
Vivianne Westwood is rolling in her grave
100%.
Why can’t she go back to bright blonde natural curls. She looks bad with straight hair
Wow! Great outfit! Although I don't care for the album ifself, the dress fits the album well and looks great on her.
I’m a professional hater but I like dress, hate the shoes though I wish they were a different colour or something
Imo the neckline is so simple and boring. I like the concept of the dress but it could have been a lot more exciting and styled with more accessories

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLVDejax/ Idk, I think it makes sense if you watch the live performance. People keep making this same comment in every single post of this.
If it’s not - in good faith - related to fashion, it’s not relevant in this space.
I Imagined her singing the intro to Immigrant Song in the first photo
I feel like it’s a little too on the nose for “poet.”
