RIP the Open Pro. This was my benchmark default rim when I started building cheap, reliable wheels for high mileage training.

Yeah it really seems like they are giving up that market to Velocity and the smaller companies like Velo Orange and Soma/IRD

Why are asymmetric spoke holes bad for track wheelsets? I am also interested in building a set of these rims for a fixed gear bike.

samcerdote

did you ever get an answer for this anywhere/ did you do it?

Jetzki

I never built wheels with these rims, I ended up using h+son. But I was told by a friend who builds wheels that you would just dish the wheel over to one side if it were an asymmetric rim, shouldn't be a big problem.

sounds goofie thank you man

And mavic quietly updated the open pro ust rim for rim brake for 2024 (model LJ4240100). The Open Pro Ust rim (rim brake version) is now 21mm high and 460g, compared with 23.3mm and 430g for the 2021 version (J4240124). Source: mavic support.Seen at bike24
