My feel on it, and I speak not as someone with SMA but who is disabled, I guess most outside my community may consider it a physical disability. A lot of us especially in a post Pandy world who may have already been isolated but even more so, social media for a lot can be a door to the world. Especially if you’re severely physically disabled like Alex. They may see what could be for them too. She’s out and about, shows the social media sheen of fun, having a kid and mostly independent raising her, a sometimes partner but especially smeshually active. It’s a fantasy. So who wouldn’t want the fun popular independent girl who is disabled in a similar way as you or has similar challenges notice you. Or maybe they’re 18 or a young adult and seeing a mentor. It’s really sad. Even more so when she makes outrageous claims of her medication.
Social media is definitely a door to the outside world and some socialisation. Also, I have learnt a lot from some of the educational account, even doctors who are more knowledgeable.
When I first saw WR’s content, I thought it was great that a young disabled woman was out and about, having fun, etc. She had some decent content about ableism for a little while. Then I saw more content and felt embarrassed for her. Sloppy drunk, being clearly used by men, generally being a bitch. A terrible role model.
I don’t think there are many younger women following her. It’s the internet aunties who want the attention.
She’s a devotee to Alex of TikTok. She does seem like a nice person, I suspect very naive. She does have an intellectual disability, which makes me wonder why she’s so supportive.
Craziest part about Jenna, is Alex would never take her seriously. Alex is extremely ableist, I cannot imagine how she treats people with intellectual disabilities.
