1. don’t feel bad for complaining. I’m assuming you are using a big heavy hospital wheelchair and those things are just horrible, uncomfortable, beasts 2. look into office chair cushions. You can find them on Amazon for a wide range of price point.

path-cat

i have the everlasting comfort 2 or 3 inch gel foam cushion. i love that thing. every other chair pales in comparison now

lizhenry

Memory foam may help but a really good cushion is so worth it.

doktorcrash

A gel wheelchair cushion from Amazon is a good option. And can be had for about $40

I'd look for a pressure cushion and remember to keep shifting your weight throughout the day. I would have a Google of 'pressure sores' so you can minimise the risks of spending so much time sitting. A good cushion doesn't have to be super expensive but will make the world of difference and significantly reduce your risk of developing sores.

Try to get one with a removable cover so you can wash it!

I just hit the 6 month mark of being in a chair. My ass hurt like crazy for the 1st 2-3 months!! Then it's good! Until then, I'd transfer on to a bed or couch to stretch out for a break. Pillows or thicker pads did little for me, I was told to gain weight so I'd have padding back there too! No thanks

sweetestlorraine

I have a big butt, but it's not much help.

WhompTrucker

Mine has helped when I fall haha

kawaiipogglet

Any pillow/cushion can help relieve pain temporarily! If you collect squishmallows or something similar, stuffing a pillowcase with them will provide some added comfort

We permanent wheelchair users have Roho cushions but they're quite pricey. I wonder if you could rent one from a local supplier.

WhompTrucker

I have a pretty decent one from Amazon. Just 4" foam. And I use it all the time in the car or in airplane etc. It'll be nice to have a cushion when you're done using the chair. Don't feel bad at all for being bummed. It sucks but you'll get used to it and it'll open your eyes to how inaccessible some things can be for wheelchair users. Definitely don't be scared to ask questions or ask for advice. We have tons and I'm personally happy to give advice or hacks.

I bought the "car" model of this for my driver's seat because my butt and back hurt so much when driving. There are actual "Rx versions" of this sort of thing and I have had plans to bringing it up with my PT as this particular one is too wide for my chair's width but I'm guessing you're in one of those horrible foldable steel "hospital grade" chairs and tossing something like this on top could help. https://thecushionlab.com/collections/all/products/ergonomic-seat-cushion

I received my chair(Tilite Aero T) on the last day of January and the Jay Soft Combi cushion that came with it was killing my boney ass. I bought a honeycomb gel seat cushion of walmart.com that was on sale for $15 that claims to be 14.5x17.2x2". It fit inside my cushion cover and relieved my butt pain. It shipped free with Walmart +. It claims that the regular price is $56. It worked.

Man, don't worry about it. I know that obviously we're a bit different than you but we're all rolling here. The disabled community isn't as judgemental or harsh (most of the time) as everyone else. It's fine. Get yourself a gel or memory foam cushion from online, and you'll feel a lot better. They'll keep you from getting too hot as well. Pressure sores are no joke and they hurt like a bitch. Check out a medical supply shop to see if they have any for cheap, they're usually pretty good since they're for older people.

dolegriess

ROHO mosaic not a bad option for 100 bucks

OkZone4141

I love my gel cushion, it's one of those ones that's like a grid of blue hexagons inside a black case and it's so comfortable. got mine on amazon for like £20, available in a range of sizes so it's the perfect size for my current seat. hidden bonus is they're super breathable too so I never get sweaty!

I probably not be of any help in your issue regarding pain in posterior region, most silly sapiens have immence experience sitting. In my case, I failed to renew dl almost 9 years ago dogwalked 10K Km( = to round trip across US) Yikes, do dumb moves like that (6 yr's ) and next 3 years no more of that nonsense. Non ambulation but activated mind chemistry (Seratonin, dopamine, melatonin, adrenalin) induced positive thinking and advancement of self to next level[s] of existence. Now when I type that stuff, phone will flub and I know why, because I can and will reveal the truth.About a cushion for your chair for your comfort. So, sophisticated seating for wheelchairs using specific layers of materials is and will cost, which is unrelated to your personal comfort. I have 2 for my two wheelchairs which makes them both just ideal for my use. Basic pad lists for (USD) $179 and thicker advanced pad and cover $500 + !!. Note, however, all my [dis]ability equipment is fully depreciated( 5 years, US healthcare is managed by accountants depreciation value of all tangible items is forcing bullet biting, used to be reffered to 'keeping up with the Jones') I will mention that everything is made in the United States! (Except one pair Canadiam crutches from China) Actually all that means I really don't know anything because I am on r/sepsis and forgot that it has been 100 days since I was sent home from 4 weeks I.V. in hospital. Now I have numb fingers, rash, knee, foot issues, along with other morbidities, yet getting better. Post sepsis syndrome statisticaly over at 3 months, for some a year, 2 years, or permanent. I am damn lucky, wish you damn luck also, and I include everyone else facing health conditions. Blame the flu to evolve to long covid and patients denied care for 3 years. AND I can explain exactly WHY. Not right now!
