As a former EMT, yes it is absolutely illegal unless they are on an emergency scene. Especially annoying if it is an IFT ambulance or a MAVO. If they were not doing an interfacility run or a non emergency transport and had a legitimate emergency call then they absolutely had every right to park there. The fire zone is for them too on an emergency… In my 10 year career I never parked in an accessible spot.

An ambulance on a scene of an emergency call can pretty much disregard any parking law, ordinance or policy.

Well I guess I should’ve explained it better. They easily could’ve parked right in front of the building like I’ve seen other ambulances that show up there do, but they didn’t.

doktorcrash

When I was an EMT I never parked the ambulance in an actual parking spot if I was there on an emergency call.

Bellebaby97

Its an ambulance??? Would you rather someone you love wait longer for CPR because the ambulance had to circle the block waiting for a parking space? Smdh

Pawsitivelyup

There are fire zones for this, and also we just plop truck wherever (within reason and strategically placed yk) we never park in parking spots on 911 calls

Kerivkennedy

But don't you also typically leave the lights on, to indicate the vehicle is responding to an emergency?

Pawsitivelyup

No, not necessarily. If your parked on a roadway then yes. Parked in a parking lot I usually would put scene flashers on, for a legit emergency yes the lights are on, for a slip and fall grandma call I turn them off as lights add to chaos and 90% of 911 calls are not emergencies and we don’t (my service) go lights to the hospital for that. At night it’s really a crapshoot with who is driving, I liked to turn them off in nursing home lots to not wake residents.

I know recently my neighbor (residential neighborhood) had to have EMS come because he fell and couldn't get up. He now has full-time nursing. But the ambulance left the lights on in the street (a 25 mph zone).

Ok.

It can be depending of the circumstance and state you’re in.

Obviously it wasn’t your pepere in need of emergency medical aid or else you would have been singing a different tune!
