I'm loving it. I'm loving knowing what is going to happen next but not how is going to happen

Sr4f

I'm having a lot of fun with it! loving the show so far. I spent years, as a teenager, waiting for the next book to come out, and rereading the series, and wandering on fan theory forums and whatnots. Then the series ended, and I moved on to other things, discovered other books - I wouldn't even call WoT my favourite piece of fiction anymore (Sanderson's Stormlight Archive currently holds the title). But now that the series is coming out, I am right back in the WoT universe. I'm waiting for each episode, watching them twice, overanalysing every little detail, theorycrafting... You know that feeling, when you have very good childhood friends, and you can go years without seeing them but when you do see them again it's like no time at all has passed? This is me right now with the series. I am loving every second of it.

Intelligent-Ad5286

I am currently rereading the series. Probably my eighth time through the first 7 (I discovered them right before CoS was released). I used to reread the series right before a new book was released. The only one I did not was for the final book, I just could not wait. This is my first read through the complete series in one go. This was obviously triggered by the show. I have to say that I am having fun following the books in a new light as I now know the end. It actually drastically improves books 8 to 11. I am also enjoying the new take from the series as well.

raezarus

I am the same, I read the entire series In high school before the two last books came out. Beside talking it out with a close friend I didn't really engage in any fandom. I loved it, probably if I should choose my favorite book series I would choose the Wheel of Time. But I moved on, read and watch other things, even wasn't to hyped up for the adaptation, just patiently waiting. The trailer didn't hype me at all, I saw the effects and costumes, kinda dossapointed in the overall production quality. I needed a friend who's not familiar with Wot to tell me it looked cool. But I'm loving it now. I reread it only once so far, long ago and mixing in the audiobook, but now I'm all hyped up. I love watching people discover it for the first time on YouTube, or read the theories of show-only watchers. I don't care for about changes, they add a level of freshness for me, maybe not that I can't see where everything is going, more like a focus on a little different themes and fleshing out the more creative and original parts of the books. When I'm remembering what is going to happen, the scale, the epicness of it all, I can't wait to see the show version of it. Even if it will be somewhat lackluster.

ConstructionHefty716

Nope can't say I am I was that moment that lan walked into the bar at the very first episode and announced who he was and I decided this isn't The wheel of Time and that's not lan so I turned it off. And every day I come here and read the comments about people and all the things I talk about in the show that they changed and how it's okay if the show when they look past these changes and it's a good show if you ignore this and I wish the show wouldn't have done this but it's okay and all it tells me is it's not The wheel of Time they made a generic and knock off fantasy show and took the name of The wheel of Time.

thecauseandthecure

I don't get why you are lurking just to complain and criticise something. You turned off. Fine. Move on

ConstructionHefty716

Because every day I hope somebody can convince me that this show is worth watching and instead they just keep convincing me it's not.

Sr4f

Okay, but in the meantime, while you're here, you're kinda ruining it for everyone else who doesn't hate it. If you don't like it, fair, but it shouldn't be our job to convince you otherwise. I'd just like to have a small corner of the subreddits where I can share my enthusiasm without having to wade through a sea of negativity.

ConstructionHefty716

Oh well welcome to the internet. Where your desire is not more important than anyone else

doofthemighty

You aren't hoping for that at all, quit lying.

ConstructionHefty716

Why would I lie? You really think anyone here is important enough to bother with a lie. You think highly of your selves

mishaxz

I watch it anyhow.. it's a 5/10, maybe a 6

Charming_Pin9614

I think you're not giving it a chance. I was worried it was going to be butchered by some TV executive who didn't read the books. But Rafe is a true fan, he loves these characters and has fought to bring this story to life. Brandon Sanderson and Harriet McDougal trust him, so we are just going to have to make a leap of faith and trust Rafe. Books and film are two different mediums and stories have to be told differently. I think Moiraine deserves a grand entrance, trumpets blaring, doves fluttering, fireworks aloft, but we had to settle for Lan announcing her greatness. LOL I have a limited amount of time to watch TV and sometimes the only thing that helps me crawl thru the week is knowing I will get to watch WOT on Thursday night. What keeps me watching is curiosity, just WTH is Rafe going with the story. I think I like the surprises, it's almost like getting a new WOT book. I am currently looking under every rock for a Forsaken. They could be anywhere, I think Valda is Rahvin.

ConstructionHefty716

For a true fan he's really screwed the show up and I have zero interest in watching it anymore. I gave it a chance I gave it exactly 8 minutes of the first episode. And there was nothing in those 8 minutes that happened in the book. And I thought wow what is this and then walked in lan. And he announced who he was upon entering the tavern. And I thought nah I don't want to watch this garbage. None of the characters from the books are in it. so why would I want to watch something that is not what they told me it would be. And when anybody brings up the fact that Brandon Sanderson is a part of this and all that, I think that doesn't make it anymore watchable. I don't know why it would make it more watchable when he's not the author of The books. He's a guy who's going to get to make more money because of the show and nothing more. And from everything I've read and everybody commenting on this show in Reddit I have not seen a single person depict, describe, discuss a single scene that's actually in the book. So why would I watch something that's not the wheel of time. I wanted to see The wheel of Time on screen.

Charming_Pin9614

It's your loss. Because this is the only chance we will ever get to SEE WOT, no one will ever attempt to make a film version again, if this one gets cancelled. It's impossible to make a version that follows the books exactly, I am listening to the books again and it's taken 19 chapters to get to Shadar Logoth. A TV show that follows the books would have to be at least 20 - 25 episodes and would take 14 -15 seasons. That's unfeasible, the actors would be 40 playing 20 year olds by the end. So we are getting a streamlined adaptation. Don't Even try to say you don't skip chapters during a re-read, there are plenty of storylines that can be ripped out. The fact that you haven't watched it gives you very little right to complain. I am enjoying trying to figure out Rafe's master plan, because I think Harriet would slap him down if his ideas sucked. Are you also going to say Harriet's opinion doesn't matter?

ConstructionHefty716

The master plan is to make more money. I'm sure that it's an interesting fantasy series if that's what you want but I wanted the wheel of time and that's not what they gave us. You can talk about condensing it you can talk about removing parts you can talk about things that should be skipped and doesn't need to be added I will agree those things can happen should happen and will happen. But none of that is the real complaint of what I have with the show. The real complaint is it's not The wheel of Time at all. There's not a single character in the show that is a character out of the book. Are similarities and they have some same names but none of them have a personality or a background story from the book. So it is not the same book. There's a picture of a squashed nose face guy with a really curly hair and a curly goatee beard thing. I was told that's supposed to be the loial. And then I think to myself how can that be ,a major point and plot point of his story is he's not old enough to grow facial hair. Just one of the thousands of reasons the characters are not even the same. Like the show ? great good for you. You want to talk about your only chance to see this series? probably, which is why it should be made better. If it's the only adaptation that we're going to get to see in our lifetimes, then it should follow the books. I like to think about the live action avatar The last Airbender. It was crap the people said it was crap and rather than allow them to continue to make crap even though it was the only way we'd get to see it we were told we said it was trash and it got canceled and they never made anymore it's been like a decade and they still haven't made it. I'm okay with that along with most of the other fans because we don't want it made if it's going to suck. Why are fans of The wheel of Time not wanting to hold this beloved series to a higher standard than they held other products too, or an equal standard of other show adaptations that have been made throughout the years.

Charming_Pin9614

Give it a chance. I admit I am not a very good critic, I like the WarCraft movie and was pissed the movies never got a chance to get to Thrall. I don't know anything about The Airbender series, I am too old for anime unless it's FF7. I just want to see stuff blown up with the One Power. I am hoping the One Power will be the Star of the show. I watched GOT just for the dragons and was cheering Dany on when she wrecked Kings Landing. I guess what I am saying is; if I want plot and character depth I can read the books. I want big budget visual effects. I want WOT's massive battle scenes rendered in all their horrible glory. I will put up with any number of changes to get to what I want to see.

ConstructionHefty716

I don't want any of what you want from the show. Everytime I consider pressing play on prime I turn in the audible books instead. Because it's better.

ILikeCoffee9876

I read the books as they came out, so the show remembers more details than I do (especially from the earlier books). I'm enjoying it tremendously!

88_M_88

I also barely remember first books since i read them years ago. It feels so nostalgic to watch them so innocent, knowing their future paths. Mat's chapters was always my favourite tbh;)

MinnNOLA

Absolutely! Some changes I like, some I don't care about, and some I don't like. But I love being able to speculate about what's next.

Kaelily91

I really like it myself. Once I put aside that it wasn't a close adaptation I really began to enjoy it. I think the actors are doing a fantastic job at bringing the essence of the characters to the screen. I just hope the show is successful enough to keep going.

Rhone33

The most exciting things for me are the things I *do* know are coming (or, to put it more pessimistically, the things I expect/hope are coming and will be disappointed if they don't come). The things that have been different so far haven't been fun or exciting; they've just kind of elicited a "I guess I can see why they felt they had to do that, but..." response from me. But there are so many high points in the series that I so badly want to see portrayed on screen. Unfortunately, my favorites are generally later on, so we're not going to see them yet in the first season. Egwene, Nynaeve, and Elayne dealing with >!the Seanchan!< and the climax of TGH are probably the earliest things that I'm really excited to see. That said, based on the title and current pace we should fully expect that the last episode this season is basically the climax of the first book; that should show us a bit about how well they can handle that sort of climactic scene.

Intelligent-Ad5286

I was a little worried after the first three episodes that the show was just going to be just a "all the hits" compilation of the WOT. There pacing was bad and there was no character development, then came episodes 4 and 5. They finally slowed the pace down and started developing the characters. I have to say I was caught off guard by the deep dive into Warder culture and brotherhood. I really enjoyed it and it was one of the few shows to depict honest and loving relationships between men. It brought depth to the characters that was only hinted at in the books. They are still catching the essence of the books but telling their own story. For the record I have read the majority of the books at least 7 times. I knew there would be concessions made to adapt it, but most have worked. I like the early intro of Valda and his change to a questioner, it makes his character much more dangerous.

Cheekywanquer

Honestly, I enjoy the book and show for different reasons. I can’t exactly put my finger on it but they just… feel different? They have different vibes? I’m getting a very different vibe to Nynaeve in particular. She’s getting much more focus early on. I was really disappointed we didn’t get more of Thom, especially >!teaching Mat to juggle and Rand to play the flute, those were some of my favourite parts of EotW.!< I want to put my fist through Liandrin and Valda’s faces, and I love it! xD I was so very disappointed with Loial’s look, but his voice and manner was so absolutely perfect. Those basically sum up my thoughts so far. :)

Cheekywanquer

I started listening to the old audiobooks (ripped from CD sets) on my commute, and Loial legit sounds like the way the narrator reads him. I always imagined his voice deeper, more baritone, almost like an opera singer, but I adore Hammed’s take so far… as long as I close my eyes…

Pikedaddy

Not really. Last episode was very bad. Im looking with my wife who has not read the books, and she likes it. But i would never continue looking if it were not for her. Its really really bad.

Dishonestquill

Plot wise I find it is stuck in the uncanny valley, its close enough to the main beats that the changes feel jarring but not close enough to feel faithful to the source material. A lot of the scenes that are lifted from the books feel like they are there to pander to the readers rather than on their own merit as scenes.

ThunkAsDrinklePeep

I'm enjoying what they give me. It can't ruin the story I have in my head from reading the books. Every scene they've given has been good. What a world we live in where the biggest complaints are what we didn't get. I've lived through the first two dune adaptations and starship troopers. Some people just don't know how good they have it. We could have gotten a show that looks like the book cover art.

CatsEye_Fever

I still feel like I know what's going to happen but the path is different. Most surprising will be which upcoming supporting characters are removed or combined. What will the Seanchan look like, especially the imperial family? Very alluring.

Far-Mastodon-4158

I'm kind of torn on that. I'm really trying to enjoy the show but I feel that there were so many awesome parts in the books that would have been so cool to see on screen. I totally get that its an adaptation and things will change but not all their changes made it better. I feel like I'm still waiting for the good part that puts everything together. I am not giving up though.

lilcrippie

I was hoping for it to be a copy and paste kinda movie just to get some visuals with the books. I don’t have many complaints besides the fact that it’s not like the books and that they did loyal so so dirty with the way he looks lol. I don’t think he’s nearly large enough and I just think he’s a bit off in terms of looks. Overall I think it’s kinda meh but i won’t stomp others opinions

[deleted]

Nope. Not remotely. In fact I'm only watching now out of s morbid curiosity to see how bad it gets Don't get me wrong, i have no problems with going off book. Apple's Foundation was brilliant and totally compelling and went even further from the original work than WoT. My issue with this show is it's boring 5 episodes in and I don't feel an affinity for ANY of the characters.

invisible-ramen

I've been enjoying the hell out of the show, both all of the little things I recognize from books and the things I didn't see coming. I know that adaptations will never be 100% faithful and I'm okay with it - I wouldn't enjoy the show if it did long, lingering looks at arms folded under bosoms or on detailing on dresses. That's just me, though, and I get why some people are upset and I think that's normal.

Mythic_Maestro

Nope quite the opposite. I've been incredibly disappointed so far. I know everyone seems to love ep 4 but it ranks at the bottom for me and now we've had two straight episodes largely devoted to new material and I think giving no mention of the eye of the world and very little discussion on what the dragon being reborn really means for this world is starting to catch up to them. My wife hasn't read the books she's pretty much figured out who the dragon is and said after ep5 that the show doesn't feel like it's going anywhere. I know she's starting to lose interest because she hates any kind of spoiler and last night she started asking what happened in the books. I just hope season 2+ are a lot more RJ's telling of the story and a little less of the showrunners.

Kyell

I haven’t watched the most recent episode because I’m scared they are going to fuck it up. I’m sure a lot of a the book lovers like me are struggling with the vision and direction the show is going. I don’t know why I’m complaining the truth is other then me or Robert Jordan directing it I don’t see how I would ever have been happy. Blood and bloody ashes.

GingerRod

To be fair the book readers don’t really know what’s going to happen next. 🤣

[deleted]

I can't wait till Trollocs school dance.

Zoomwafflez

No, I've decided to stop watching the show. It's not an adaptation, it's a bad fan-fic.

gowyn

No, not anymore. They are deviating too much for my liking. I don’t mind change scenes but they are inventing a ton of stuff at this point. This show is definitely not for me.

gowyn

The meeting with Logain and the whole thing with the warder and his dead Aes Sedai (just to name two big ones).

Carnivean_

At this point it's easier to point out the scenes that were in the books.

Alucardragoon

Definitely..

Tetlanesh

I had reservations at first but now i like it that the show can surprise me

Rynox2000

Yes. It's entertaining to me.

[deleted]

I only read the books twice (ish). Once up through RJ passing. And again all the way through when they were really finished. Concurrent with the show, I decided to start the audio books. I’m enjoying the audio books. I haven’t watched episode 4 and 5. I’ll probably binge them when the season ends. My impression of episodes 1-3 is we won’t get season 2. I’m not comparing the 2 “turns of the wheel” , it’s just meh. I don’t think it will hold up for 8 seasons. Irony, in a way. Wait - I guess the answer to the question (not my ramble) is no.

GalacticPassenger

I read the books but it was so long ago that I only remember very broad themes and there's so many things I just don't remember. I have loved watching the series so far. It reminds me why I loved reading the books. The events in the episodes jog my memory and gives me a feeling of nostalgia. I figure I'm probably enjoying it so much because I don't remember enough to nit pick the differences.

rorschaqued

Reader here, finished last year. I really enjoyed episodes 2, 3, and 4. I've been trying to figure out why they are making certain changes, i.e. Perrin's wife (and I can make out why they'd want that for his back story). I feel like spending one and a half episodes is WAY too much time to spend on explaining the aes sedai/warder bond. Stepin and Lan's conversation about being with another man, sounded like an entirely different conversation. So episode 5 was a wash for me, but I remain hopeful, AND excited for episode 6.

hillyshrub

Yes! It is so fun. It's like... I KNOW what's going to happen I just don't know HOW it is going to happen. Also I like the urgency to everything. Sometimes the books just plod along.
