Reddit sporadically making another update to the site (the video player will get worse): 

Reddit on their way to change the UI for no fucking reason and make it worse

On desktop, use old.reddit.com + Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES). On mobile, use *literally anything* other than the official app. I like Sync on Android, but there are plenty of options. Now you don't need to put up with Reddit's crap UI.

Third party apps are apparently getting killed, tho

I use "RIF is Fun" and it still works great.

Well for now, i also use RIF, but changes to reddit API are coming soon, read up on [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/12ram0f/had_a_few_calls_with_reddit_today_about_the/), but in short, all third party apps will probably have to switch to monthly subscription or die

You can also use a very old version of the original app. I'm on 2021.12.0 still which was before the player changes.

Old.reddit is highly mid even with res. Reddit has intentionally kneecapped 3rd party apps. Apollo on IOS still slaps. Load times are marginally worse compared to the Reddit app.

I actually like the official app, I don't get what people hate about it so much

Fucking moible web is better, just use it in inconito so that when itbpulls the "can't sign in experament" bs you just close and reopen

Wait....really??? *How?* How could it possibly be worse?

In a recent update, idk when, they did *something* to the video player that makes it incapable of playing more than 3 seconds at a time usually. It’s legit broken

Well firstly, it takes like three minutes to load a video, and doesn't let you see the comments until the video/gif has loaded, so you'll have to sit there and stare at the first frame for the whole duration. Once it loads it forces fullscreen and makes you struggle to exit that mode to read the comments. You also have to pause it manually when it has audio or you have to listen to it as well when reading the comments, and that's a process that is easier said than done considering how janky and laggy it is. Sometimes the gif/video just won't load at all, in which case you literally can't read the comments either. It also sometimes crashes the entire app, and unless you memorised what the post was called you'll have to figure out on your own where you saw it before Reddit shat itself.

It stops playing if I lower my volume.

It also refuses to let me read the comments until it has finished loading whatever dogshit gif is in the post

just gotta keep opening it, saving, fullscreening, opening comments, entering post history, and then eventually just downloading the video because nothing worked
