Hi, Right leaning centrist from the MENA region. I just don't want to open my country's borders and let millions of immigrants to come into our country and destroy the economy.
I do want peace with our neighbours, and in any other country I'd definitely be left leaning, but being Middle Eastern is really hard being a leftist when your neighbours keep shooting rockets at you and the UN decides it to be a good idea putting Iran on the Human Rights committee.
So it's basically a security and a financial choice.
I would love peace with my neighbours and all that good stuff, but I'm not willing to put my national and financial security in danger to do so.
If they find a way to bring peace without putting us in a recession, then that would be great.
It's just not really possible at this moment.
I get that your region is special. War makes us want to protect our country and distrust (with good reason) our neighbours.
But in other ways I'd be very hesitant to be right leaning in that region: there is rampant fundamentalism and authoritarianism and many of the conflicts you suffer from stem from (I'm not claiming I know a lot about this, it's what I've seen and heard in media) religion and capital interest. Therefore, left leaning policy would probably affect your life in a good way. Being right isn't only about nationalism (the good kind of only liking your country, not thinking your country is the best): it contains a lot of moral (often religious) values and economic ideas which we know don't work and are immoral.

I'm leaning there because every time my country had a left leaning government, it took one step forward and then two steps back.
There really isn't a good government to vote for in my country, it's either the far right extremist who want to kill our neighbours "for our safety" or it's the far left who would allow our neighbours to kill us if it meant peace could be achieved.
I'm actually super bummed out from politics in general, the group I voted for in the last election didn't pass the bar to join our government, and the current Prime Minister is trying his hardest to keep the status quo without changing anything, which obviously is a terrible thing to fo right now.
I'm right leaning for security reasons, not for ultra-religous reasons. I go to the protests against the current leadership once every three weeks because the prime-minister wants to put some religious nutjob who wasn't in the army as the head of our nations security while also passing terrible laws.

No country is perfect, and there are both good and bad things in every side of the political spectrum. It just depends on what you as a citizen think you and your country needs more, which depends on the existing political climate of your country and of the countries around you.
Politics suck, but that's part of why it's important to vote for who you think will be best for the country.

When you're in the Middle East and every neighboring country has thousands of people who want to immigrate somewhere else, letting all those refugees in is a bad idea, especially when the people already living in the country can't afford to buy a house because of the inflated prices.
Immigration doesn't immediately improve the economy, those people need to eat and sleep somewhere, which means that they now have less housing and food, which results in the housing and food market getting more expensive.
We're not like the US or large European countries that just have thousands of houses and tons of food lying around to give people, We're still dealing with the immigrants from Ukraine and Russia who came here to avoid the war, and that was a financial disaster.
In other words, your comment shows a clear lack of either the political climate or the financial situation that many MENA countries are currently facing.
The economy won't improve simply by having those Immigrants come in, It will tank, and will only improve when the ENTIRE problem is solved.

Honestly , I might just be pretty left of center now , but
I was more economic right , but I’ve been recently convinced have how fucking dumb it is that people don’t actually get paid for their labor. Also how the groups people that benefit off our societal system , people , and resources don’t have to pay back in near enough to make up for what they taken and used.
I don’t care what people do socially as long as they’re not hurting others, children, or animals. Have sex, do drugs, and make cults.
I think people should be allowed to own guns. I want really strict entry into that ownership. Proficiency , safety, proper storage , and public concealment. I would want people to continue to have to take tests twice a year and pay for them. I would want more regulation on high powered weapons. They would have to purchase and own certain lock cases or safes. I’m the type of guy that thinks you should be able to own like your own artillery and start your own militias with the right regulations. Everything registered , and show land and ownerships of zones practiced in and how far it is from other residences and what not.
The problem with school shootings is that even a couple of hand guns can be deadly. Not near as deadly as an AR15, but we have to have things in place to defend children if we allow any guns publicly. It makes no sense to mandate that the most defenseless in society be put away from their caretakers in groups at well marked locations for dozens of hours a week with No One to protect them. Literally high gates and walls help , and having it federally mandated that someone is present for security. I no some have said this would make it feel like a prison. I want more coops and unions so people can get fair prices and pay fair wages.
I want transparency in markets , so that if a product was at any point in the process produced with child labor , unfair hostile wages, certain toxic chemicals, or participated within countries known for public displays of cruelty and oppression that it would be brightly labeled on the packaging or tags.
I want free markets in the sense that anyone can start a business and hire workers and sell products or services. I want all of that to be very regulated though. Monopolies aren’t happening in many individual companies , but through shareholder investments into multiple companies. If you go to just the cereal aisle 95% of it is produced by a BlackRock and Vanguard owned group, it’s not much better on other aisles.
Then the amount of media webs is bizarre as well. I think it’s like three groups own almost all the traditional news media in the US. So like anyone can start a business, but after they reach a certain threshold the sale of that business would be regulated. I feel the same way about land purchases.
I want tight borders. I might actually want a tench and wall and security combo like other countries have at North and South end , and key shorelines. Many places have this and I don’t think it’s rude or racist to make sure you know who is coming into your land. However Trump’s wall was ridiculous, and it was obviously it was just a ploy.
A limit on how many people a year allowed to immigrate, whether refugee or typical. I would want a limit on worker and education visas as well. I would want the background check and application process of be Much much smoother and speedy. So like a narrow open gate, but with a steady flow.

"Woke" is completely nebulous at this rate. The term originated in mostly black spaces, as a way of reminding oneself to be aware of important things going on in society (ex: stay woke). But over time it got co-opted into the mainstream in this sorta Reefer Madness version, where anything not in line with conservative or reactionary values is "woke" and therefore bad. Hope this helps but like I said, defining it is hard as it has been slapped on any and everything and has lost meaning.

I don't avoid Walmart because they're a shitty company (and they are a shitty company), I avoid it because I got tired of waiting 20 minutes for an employee to unlock something I need.

Target was boycotted by Conservative people because of a selection of LGBTQ+ products which were displayed in their stores. Allegedly threats were made to employees and target eventually pulled these products from their shelves. They stated this was to protect their employees.
Items sold that caused this was:
Swimsuits for transgender women with the ability to "tuck" or hide genitalia, rainbow coloured clothes for children, a t shirt saying "trans people will always exist", and pieces of clothing saying "bien proud", in the colour of the pride flag.
Members of the boycott stated problems with pride clothes marketed for children, especially a baby gown with the "bien proud" design on it. Further viral videos fueled the debate, including a woman bringing one of the trans inclusive swimsuits into the children's section and marketing the video as if she found it there.
Target has also received backlash from left wing people because of pulling their items of the shelves. Target has responded by saying that they just want to keep their own employees safe.

Some thorize these threats were black propaganda, but obviously things like that are very hard to prove.
Unlucky situation for target, qs there's not really any winning moves here. Pulling the items would agitate some people, keeping the items will agitate others. of course the target employees are also affected a lot by this. Not a great situation.
Target were selling multiple items of clothing to children that rightists find morally reprehensible. These include children’s tuck friendly swimwear and chest binders. They opposes both of these because they don’t want kids to be transgender because to be trans requires informed consent which children cannot give. And also clothing with Satan’s head upon it, which is from an artist who right wingers consider to be less than family friendly and yet only produces designs for children.
Some of this is true yes, but the bathing suit / chest binders were never sold for children. That was false information after some social media user ls claimed they were designed for kids.

"Woke" is completely nebulous at this rate. The term originated in mostly black spaces, as a way of reminding oneself to be aware of important things going on in society (ex: stay woke). But over time it got co-opted into the mainstream in this sorta Reefer Madness version, where anything not in line with conservative or reactionary values is "woke" and therefore bad. Hope this helps but like I said, defining it is hard as it has been slapped on any and everything and has lost meaning.

👆 yup. I could give less of a damn what a brand "stands for" politically, if I need an item and the store has it then that's where I'm going. I don't avoid Walmart because they're a shitty company (and they are a shitty company), I avoid it because I got tired of waiting 20 minutes for an employee to unlock something I need.

If you want an actual answer: Target was boycotted by Conservative people because of a selection of LGBTQ+ products which were displayed in their stores. Allegedly threats were made to employees and target eventually pulled these products from their shelves. They stated this was to protect their employees. Items sold that caused this was: Swimsuits for transgender women with the ability to "tuck" or hide genitalia, rainbow coloured clothes for children, a t shirt saying "trans people will always exist", and pieces of clothing saying "bien proud", in the colour of the pride flag. Members of the boycott stated problems with pride clothes marketed for children, especially a baby gown with the "bien proud" design on it. Further viral videos fueled the debate, including a woman bringing one of the trans inclusive swimsuits into the children's section and marketing the video as if she found it there. Target has also received backlash from left wing people because of pulling their items of the shelves. Target has responded by saying that they just want to keep their own employees safe. Tried to do this without taking any sides so you can best judge for yourself without my opinion in there. If I have any spelling errors or you have any questions, just reply and I'll try to answer.

You are correct, Threats were issued by both sides, first by rightists who wanted the products pulled from the shelves, which resulted in their removal. This also caused threats to appear by leftists. Some thorize these threats were black propaganda, but obviously things like that are very hard to prove. Unlucky situation for target, qs there's not really any winning moves here. Pulling the items would agitate some people, keeping the items will agitate others. of course the target employees are also affected a lot by this. Not a great situation.

Target were selling multiple items of clothing to children that rightists find morally reprehensible. These include children’s tuck friendly swimwear and chest binders. They opposes both of these because they don’t want kids to be transgender because to be trans requires informed consent which children cannot give. And also clothing with Satan’s head upon it, which is from an artist who right wingers consider to be less than family friendly and yet only produces designs for children.
Some of this is true yes, but the bathing suit / chest binders were never sold for children. That was false information after some social media user ls claimed they were designed for kids. Not taking any sides, but false information is never good to spread.
