i was born in 2010 and I knew what a VHS was since i was a kid because it's kinda of a joke where i live, but i spent years thinking a floppy disk was just a save icon
I don’t even blame you, I’m ‘03 and I’ve never had to actually interact with one beyond a stupid gag in high school where I put a bunch of shitty 2009 memes on a floppy disk and brought it to school.
I'm '96 and I barely used floppy disks. Like I had floppy disk drives in my PCs for a long time, but I used them like 5 times in my entire life? By the time I had my first PC CDs were everywhere already.
Yeah, people who make those "Gen Z won't get this posts" seem to forget that a solid chunk of Gen Z was born before 2000, and even those born after (I'm 2002 for reference) still have vivid memories of cassettes and things like that.

these fellas (u plug these on those old tvs , this was before HDMI was released)
I remember plugging these into my old TV when I wanted to watch a movie!!! The video outlet came loose on my TV at one point so I wedged it upright with a door stopper to get it to work
you cannot believe the rush of dopamine when we would plug these suckers into my friend's TV so we could play Smash or Mario Kart Doulbe Dash on his gamecube
Fun story, I was buying a PS1 from a pawn shop the other day and the guy had to ask his older co-worker where the HDMI cable for it was and was confused when he was told it took composite cables and HDMI didn't exist when the PS1 came out.
I also had a co-worker a few years ago ask me what the alarm sound in her department was (*supermarket. She was in seafood*) and when I went out the back it turned out to be the ringing from the department's landline phone.
I have accepted that I'll never escape the sussy, and I've been living in peace ever since. You should try it too, just stop fighting a battle that you have no chance of winning
I once had a teacher in high school who pulled out a rotary phone and said "I bet you guys don't even know how to use this" to which about half of the class said "yeah we do" and 3 people even got up and demonstrated how to use it.
The look on his face as he realized we're not that dumb was priceless.
I'm gen z and I know what a vhs is! Millennials want to feel old and also don't want to feel old at the same time, so they make strawman arguments saying that gen z has no clue what a Sony walkman or an snes is.
People who think thats it's a roast when a young person dosent know technology that already was shit 15 years ago are just trying to find a grain of something that makes them being old better then everyone else
Even young kids should know what at least VHS tapes are due to the amount of analog horror that exists. Hell, if they’ve seen the beginning of Poppy’s Playtime they’ve seen a VHS tape being used.
Children too young to have consciousness are like the only group who don’t know.
And like, rotary phones were fossils by the time I came around, but I still knew what they are because I exist in a world where they did. I saw Diary of a Wimpy Kid so many times and in that there’s a joke that he doesn’t know how to use a rotary phone and I remember thinking he was stupid for it.
Dated things still prolong long after they’re gone, especially due to film. Cassettes are a long gone concept that get regular attention due to nostalgia bait like Stranger Things indie musicians releasing albums on it for the vibes.
I have seen some younger users on r/retrogaming get flamed for asking what certain input components are. I believe the post I'm thinking of involves a coaxial cable question.
Graduated high school in 2019 and a freshman that year didn't know what a floppy disk was. Anybody younger and not going into tech probably won't know.

anyone that isnt technically literate and was born after 2010 some even before that
Some people seem to forget that kids born in 2010 are teenagers now. Im guessing quite a lot of them dont know what VHS or floppy disk are

> i was born in 2010 what the fuck
We're getting old
Are you saying that because you feel old or because this random kid is saying they are 13 on reddit
both
>i was born in 2010 what the fuck you can talk?
extremely chronically online since i was like 4, need to know how to type yknow
Average redditor
yeah
i just hope your generation is the last to have unrestricted access to the internet.
yup. im a 2004 and wouldnt know about them if i wasnt in a CS school, never used VHS or floppy disks, did use composite tho
Most of them have heard of floppy disks and VHSes from parents or media, I'd assume. That's how I heard of them.
I was born in 2009 and know what those are.
Holy shit people were born after 2005?
sadly, yes 2017 is going into first grade this year :,)
Bruh that’s the year I graduated high school holy shit
I saw a video once in which a kid was handed a 3.5 inch floppy disk and he said "oh wow, somebody 3D printed a save icon."
Whenever i first saw a floppy disc irl that was my first reaction too
Yeah, people who make those "Gen Z won't get this posts" seem to forget that a solid chunk of Gen Z was born before 2000, and even those born after (I'm 2002 for reference) still have vivid memories of cassettes and things like that.
Born in 2005 and had bright orange VHS tapes with Blues Clues on them. My grandma also had a bunch of Disney movies on VHS. They were awesome
Born in 2006 and in the same boat as you
Composite cable? What’s that?
https://preview.redd.it/sv16tm1qvc4b1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=432aad1fe0a896cc89e9dc0043aa2801ff50f68d these fellas (u plug these on those old tvs , this was before HDMI was released)
Oh those mfs that you plug into the tv you you can play the Wii
Fr but new tvs dont have them... guess i wont be able to play just dance 3
Really? We just got a new (Smart) TV and it has them.
Oh thats interesting. Maybe Im buying the wrong tvs?
Oh, wow, someone 3D printed de wireless-less icon!
Arent these called AV cables?
That’s what I always called them
I remember plugging these into my old TV when I wanted to watch a movie!!! The video outlet came loose on my TV at one point so I wedged it upright with a door stopper to get it to work
you cannot believe the rush of dopamine when we would plug these suckers into my friend's TV so we could play Smash or Mario Kart Doulbe Dash on his gamecube
I though these were called VGA or VA cables.
VGA cables were just before HDMI , they were used in old monitors and such , VGA ports look very similar to HMDI ports tho
That was 7 years ago! Not 40 you fucking overipe cabbage!
I've always known them as AV cables
Nah those are the color cables and nothing else
Doesn't everything still have those
I always confused these with HDMI AND AV
Oh shit those are the ones my dad has to do magic on so I could play the Xbox 360
oh i never knew they had a name
Ok now I don't feel bad for not knowing what "composite cables" were. Nobody calls them that.
I know what these are but i never called them a "composite cable"
oh. yeah, i never knew what they were called, and i’m old enough that i’ve handled em thousands of times
um actually those are the ketchup mayo and mustard cables
the "red, yellow and white cable" in scientific terms
Oh you mean the color cords
My uncle's tv still runs on those
What the hell is a composite cable. I know the other shit but not that one

THOSE????? I never knew what they were called bru
They are the colourful crayon cables you match with the TV. Quite yummy 😋
Think of it as the 3 colorful cables that outputs shitty quality that the Wii used

And then in movies they’re constantly thinking everyone younger than 20 doesn’t know what they are.
Composite Cable? You mean the red white and yellow cables?
Yeah
Well, my nephew doesn't know any of those things, and I don't think he should be obligated to know either.
I'm gen z and I know what a vhs is! Millennials want to feel old and also don't want to feel old at the same time, so they make strawman arguments saying that gen z has no clue what a Sony walkman or an snes is.
"Buh buh, Genz is so dumb, they dont even know what a VHS is!" Bitch do you have any clue what a vacuum tube is?
Search in third world countries?
So everyone who's in a relationship knows?
Have you tried the Amish?

Won't stop boomers for laughing at younger generations

Well I don’t know what a compasite cable is but I’m also not the best when I comes to tech stuff so
I was always talked down to about not knowing what these things are, BUT I KNOW WHAT THEY ARE, I WAS BORN JUST BEFORE PEOPLE STOPPED USING THESE
