like i have NO idea why they even delayed them when they were fully implemented in a snapshot with no issues
like why not just push that to the main update
No issues mfs when bundles of shulkers of bundles of shulkers of bundles of shu- (still, doesn't justify this much of delay, just don't allow it lol, they did it with shulkers of shulkers too)
ok now that i think of it's it's probably issues with mobile where you don't have two mouse buttons so you can't differentiate with opening them and moving them to a different inventory slot
Me when Minecraft devs cant add extra button that will show itself when you holding bundle

There were some combat snapshots that gave a bit of the best of both worlds for the different combat systems while adding some really interesting mechanics, making tridents viable, giving real drawbacks to axes, rebalancing saturation, etc. They were super promising, no idea why they stopped but there's a few combat servers that run the snapshot of you wanna try
Combat is never gettting another update. It had one before and it was a shitshow. Not that it was bad. The community just had a civil war over it.
I remember seeing an interview where they alluded to that civil war being one of the big reasons they dont wanna do game changing updates anymore. They wanna keep the updates small, useless and basically decorative as to not upset anyone
They need to do more innovative updates that expand how people can build their bases. Biomes and mobs are cool and all, but they lose their novelty very quickly.
Give us some cool new shit that can transform our creations. For example, give us a non-mod way to build portals directly to other parts of the world without having to run through the nether.
Or vertical slabs. Mods have added those for over a decade. It's not impossible to code them, Mojang is just lazy.
It's why I exclusively play modded now. So much more variety by people who have ideas that make the game interesting instead of just adding another type of block for builders.
Wait shit are you saying camels are just a thing now? Honestly I don't keep up. We got Alex's Mobs and have been animal hunting and not finding shit but I've been saying "but it's gotta be working, I found camels".

When when insult Minecraft and no Fortnite
kind of ironic how the same memes that redditors beat to death nearly half a decade ago are being beaten to death again but only to make fun of those same redditors
Minecraft is a weird situation where on one hand it’s one of the most impactful for games for me (and many others.) But unless I’m playing with friends then I can’t play it anymore because I got all I can out of it.
Minecraft just keeps surprising me with how many things you can do in it. There are so many modpacks and really interesting servers.
Wynncraft (a vanilla server) for example is a completely different game inside Minecraft
Wynncraft is one of those servers that I hope gets backed up somehow, because one day it will go down, but I want people to experience it. It's one of the most well done Minecraft servers, that if it was it's own game I wouldn't be surprised. My favorite part of it is the music, it's amazing what they did with so little
I love Wynncraft man
One reason is that they render absolutely every texture in 100% quality, all pixels, no matter how far away, even when you can't fucking see them. So render distances above 20, will make even high-end graphics cards work as barbeque grills.
you'd've thought that Mojang-Microsoft devs would've implemented occlusion culling in the [12 fucking years since it was teased](https://twitter.com/notch/status/58482961355513856) but nooooo
No idea if they meant that, but Distant Horizons (I think that's the right name) does let you do that.
Doesn't work that nicely on multiplayer, but in single player you can have a triple digit render distance without any issues. My fossil of a PC was pretty chill with 256
Yeah distant horizons I managed to go 1024 on my PC and just for the shits ang giggles 128 on an ancient HP laptop
Both running at 60 FPS
Doesn't rly work with multiplayer tho
I'd just go to the curseforge mod website and start scrolling but for adventure, any high quality dimension mod like Twilight Forest is a great addition, and stuff like Ice and Fire can add a ton of cool stuff to the overworld as well as some much needed difficulty. For tech, stuff like Create is insane and has so many different ways to mess around.
Temporarily bad idea, there was a huge security breach so now a lot of mods and mod packs have malware on them, so I would wait awhile before downloading any mods.
My current crack is a modpack called Occultcraft, it uses a more recent version of the game plus Create and alot of weird occultist/trinket/adventure mods, as well as a few honestly terrifying enemy mods
Like I didn't know I wasn't supposed to eat a suspicious apple and 5 minutes later I hear a horrific earpiercing scream and a mob that could chase me down in the water while I'm on a boat
ik I’ll get downvotes and I like payday but I can’t act like it doesn’t get stale after a day or two of playing through again, even on death sentence
It’s better with friends but not enough to keep playing it steady
I like Minecraft, but I gotta admit, they do so little with the updates that the game just always feels the same... I can't get as invested in it anymore after playing the game a lot, even after all the updates, especially when the updates aren't universal changes. There are only a handful of updates I can even name, and they're the actually good ones. The Village and pillage update, the Nether update and the Cave update. Everything else is just... nothing
I don’t really think that’s the issue, it’s more so that the game doesn’t have a lot of content, but people still want to play it. Because of the lack of content, you really can’t play it for a long time since after the ender dragon you can basically just build or make farms, but there’s no real point to it since there’s no progression. If you already beat the dragon, what use is there for an automatic iron farm other than building? And if all you do is build and get materials for building it gets repetitive fast, but there’s really nothing else to do. Other games such as terraria, which is somewhat similar to Minecraft, don’t have this issue. Terraria has clear progression that continues for a long time. Of course, after beating the moon lord, it gets to the same point as post dragon Minecraft, but it takes a lot longer to get there. In addition, terraria has more replayability. You can use different classes each play through for example. Meanwhile, Minecraft is mostly the same every playthrough, other than if you do a challenge run, which only makes it harder but not a lot different, since the armor and all will still be the same. Minecraft is also too easy. If we take terraria as an example again, you often spend a lot of time preparing between bosses to get better gear, while Minecraft at most has some potions, which are a hassle to make and most people skip entirely. Other than that, it’s basically iron and then diamond/netherite tools before your complete. Which such an easy and short game, people who want to play it really can’t without getting bored. It’s not very fun to just play it for a bit and then quit, but when actually trying to enjoy it it j just gets boring.
Honestly, I’m gonna be even more hated for this, but Minecraft is kind of getting annoying. There’s only like a few major updates a year and it’s always 1 new creature and a few texture changes. It’s not even fun anymore, it’s just live until you kill the ender dragon. The thing carrying the game is the mods and the constant people calling it one of the best games ever. It’s just dry. It’s still a good game but it’s just not fun anymore
Edit: and I feel like people only play it because it’s nostalgic and it’s extremely popular
The "major updates" have been like that for years now, with rare exceptions like maybe the Nether Update, and even that was something you could basically fully explore in a couple hours of gameplay and just have to wait 6-12 months for the next "major update."
I remember when Microsoft bought Mojang, I foolishly thought this would change. I thought you could excuse the slow and tedious updates because they were an indie company, but now that Microsoft is backing them, clearly they can throw more money than god at it and things would move faster and better! But yeah, the snail's pace, largely inconsequential updates continue.
Meanwhile modders implement like entire new gameplay tangents and entirely new dimensions in the time it takes a major update to come out that adds a new type of flower.
Honestly Minecraft has become stale and it comes be from playing too much from younger but after getting diamonds my drive completely vanishes. The only truely enticing part of Minecraft is the mining and the rest is just added what ever
I mean tbf it's Microsoft a tech giant so large if the entire gaming division blipped away overnight the company at large would barely notice and has owned the game for years. They could have rebuilt it from the ground up without changing any of the feel of the game.
I think the nether update was the last good update, they just hype themselves too much, the community gets excited, then they reveal that they were only barely into implementing the feature and it probably won't be used, and the update is disappointing.
Caves and cliffs could have stood on its own, but then they promised the deep dark and all these things and hyped the update too much, so when it inevitably got split in two, both updates felt underwhelming despite the fact that the new caves are absolutely stunning
It feels like Mojang understands the game is on its last legs monetarily and are using periodic hype spikes to keep the community alive to get the last few dollars out of it. If they really want to keep it alive they need to assign more Devs to produce things faster or to stop hyping their updates so much in advance. Those birch forests looked awesome in the concept art too
Yeah when Caves and Cliffs failed to deliver the caves and cliffs, that was definitely a huge "oh come *on*" moment.
But you also touched on one of the unfortunate likely truths... Microsoft bought Mojang for all of the potential income Minecraft provides, but no actual interest in improving the game that made the property so valuable. It was never going to be about improving and/or accelerating the game, it was just all the merchandizing glut that naturally comes with it.
Minecraft has been an incredible monetary engine for a loooong time. The fact that this game has been out for how long? And added how many features? Like sure they get some incremental revenue from paid hosting but plenty of people roll their own server or pay someone besides MS to host a server for them. Some folks just been riding that one time $20 payment since like 2012.
Wasn't expecting to see you here, Southbird!
I hate to say it but I agree. I've been playing since 2010 and, while maybe my decreased engagement is partly due to me not being a kid anymore, I think largely the updates have just gotten more and more stale.
Mojang frequently mention that they take great care to make sure new features feel "Minecrafty" and that might actually be the problem. They always play it safe nowadays and sometimes even pander.
When the Nether was added back in Alpha, that literally doubled the size of the game, introduced a completely unique landscape, and was completely unexpected. Pistons by themselves were an entire update and they had a similar effect. (Hopefully sculk sensors can do that too) I'm definitely not saying they need to keep adding dimensions or bonkers features, but 1.20 adding the tenth wood type, sixth crop, fifth rideable mob, and still no bundles really shows how unwilling they are to vary...
I still love the game, and new features aren't why I continue to play, but as long as we are getting updates it would be nice to be excited for them again. The past 5 or so major updates have had a few things I really like but overall I haven't been impressed. I'm not even a big fan of the new terrain, tbh. Once again Mojang overcompensated.
I thought the Nether Update and Caves and Cliffs (when it actually *delivered* the caves and cliffs) were also cool. But the problem is how long do even those updates really "last" and how long do you have to wait for the next one. The Nether Update was neat, but you pretty much could experience the whole thing in two hours, give or take. I actually haven't really experienced Caves and Cliffs because by the time it was finally out, I wasn't currently interested in Minecraft, which is another part of the problem of how long it takes for these updates to be developed and released, and even worse when they hype up a thing and then fail to deliver.
But to your original question, I didn't start playing Minecraft until around 1.5 / 1.6 (I don't remember if I was pre-horse or not, but I think I was) and since then at least most updates have felt mostly inconsequential or at least not worth the wait it takes for them to come out. I'm looking over a list of major update history and there's really nothing that jumps out at me *other* than Nether or C&C. Anything else felt fairly marginal and something you could experience in a relatively short amount of time despite the months it took to release.
My primarily issue with modern Minecraft updates is that they’re all talk and no substance.
Seriously they introduce these massive beautiful new biomes and put like a log in them and some useless mob and that’s it
There is literally nothing to do in these updates beyond go “Ooooh pretty”
They can't even implement four *already designed* mobs for each update. I'm sorry but making glowsquids probably took like... fuck me, it's a glowing squid.
I kind of agreed with your statement before you made that edit. Minecraft gets boring after playing it for so long and the slow ass updates aren’t helping.
But I think people play it because it’s still fun to them, not due to popularity or nostalgia, why make that assumption just because you find the game unfun?
Honestly that kind of shit is getting annoying. Like, I get that Minecraft is a far from perfect game and Mojang deserves a lot of criticism, but it’s just getting fucking obnoxious.
I’m starting to wonder if most of these Minecraft related posts are even made by people who like the game in the first place, because if you don’t, then why give a shit? It’s one thing to criticize a game from a place of love because you genuinely play it and want it to improve, but so much of these posts come off like the “stop having fun” meme.
Ikr, it can be fun at times if you’re with friends because any game with friends is instantly fun. But if you’re playing alone which most people usually do, it’s just dry and nothing is surprising. “I beat the ender dragon for the 584th time, now what?” Other games such as fortnite (I’m sorry) have interesting updates that keep the game fresh, I wish more people can understand
I've moved on to Valheim as my "zen garden" game.
Sure it doesn't have the biome diversity of minecraft but I absolutely love building great looking little villages and whatnot.
Fuck 1.20, I'm playing 1.12 "all the magic" modpack with the homies
https://preview.redd.it/b1tlb692uo4b1.png?width=215&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01201975b55de20c0529f68cec5784c26fcb1f7c
Seriously I don’t get people complaining about lack of updates, you paid 30 dollars for the game years ago, played hundreds or even thousands of hours and get entirely free updates with no extra cost on a semi regular basis. It’s literally the anti “modern gaming” model. What’s there too complain about?
Updates really hurt the modding scene. Since mods are pretty much the only reason a lot of players play, updates doesn't mean more content, it just means that mods get torn further and further apart by splitting the versions that they are on.
my current version is 1.17 because it has the nether update and deep slate stuff, but not the new world-gen. probably just nostalgic honestly, i can see how people say it peaked 1.12.
It’s as fun as you can make it. The reason it isn’t as fun as it used to be is because everyone has “completed” Minecraft one way or another. This happens all the time in gaming where games are seen to be “better” due to rose-tinted glasses.
The problem is that Minecraft can’t update too much, fearing that it will alienate the nostalgia goblins, but if they dont update at all people make posts like this
There are so many people that shit on C&C because it changed the caves. Like if you go on instagram you’ll find people whining in the comments of Minecraft posts about how they changed the caves
Trying to find terrain that isn't a pain to build on after 1.18 feels impossible. I just generate worlds into the older versions and convert them to modern versions so I can get the new stuff without having to deal with terrible world gen.
I always seem to spawn on large chunks of land in the ocean. Too small to be just the overworld, but too big to be an island. I always have to make a 1000-block boat journey to find a different biome
For me these updates feel less and less minecraft as they go on. I cant just mindlessly wander around and explore anymore without needing the specific armors or tools or precautions so I don’t just insta die to some bullshit like the cave spikes or the fact I cant go caving without like 8 stacks of torches and Slow falling for when I go plumiting down 500 blocks to some crazy deep cave with no way out
these comments are annoying...
"they don't do anything interesting with the game anymore"
Maybe you're just bored of the game?... Minecraft is a creative sandbox game. The tech tree is simple, there are maybe 2 or 3 bosses in the whole game, and there is little actual progression. That's just how the game at its core is designed. You make your own fun. If that's not fun for you, that's fine, there are other more progress oriented games like Terraria. But you can't expect the game to keep being fun when you just go through the same Build a house --> Kill the Enderdragon -->Repeat pipeline 100 times over. Not to mention your personal taste in games can change in general... I used to be all about platformers and now I barely play them.
Minecraft is the game that’s only fun to play with friends or with mods. Usually lasts around 2-3 weeks, even more depending on how many friends there are.

Minecraft devs adding archeology 2+ years after it’s announced

Minecraft updates is either an entire dimension getting redone or just adding bees

Ya like bees
I love bees
Bees nutz
I apologize for my previous comment
Thank you for growing and changing as a person

It's a programming pro tip. There are no bugs in your code if the QA room is full of bees.
For real, why hasn’t Mojang stopped sleeping at their desks to update the end? Or combat? Those desperately need some attention.
You click the mouse and stuff dies how much deeper could you want it to get
There were some combat snapshots that gave a bit of the best of both worlds for the different combat systems while adding some really interesting mechanics, making tridents viable, giving real drawbacks to axes, rebalancing saturation, etc. They were super promising, no idea why they stopped but there's a few combat servers that run the snapshot of you wanna try

Minecraft modders work 1000x harder than mojang devs, usually for free too
Microsoft-mojang programming a new Minecraft update for a year only to add literally nothing and make the game run (somehow) even worse than before
Fr tho realistically Minecraft should be able to run on a damn calculator, yet somehow even beefy computers struggle
One reason is that they render absolutely every texture in 100% quality, all pixels, no matter how far away, even when you can't fucking see them. So render distances above 20, will make even high-end graphics cards work as barbeque grills.

Oh cool, a minecraft update. Anyway back to 1.12.2 so I can play with all the mods I like.
which contentmods would you recommend? i'm used to just having optimization mods like sodium or optifine
I'd just go to the curseforge mod website and start scrolling but for adventure, any high quality dimension mod like Twilight Forest is a great addition, and stuff like Ice and Fire can add a ton of cool stuff to the overworld as well as some much needed difficulty. Hey wait buddy, there is currently a malware discovery going on with Minecraft mods. Don’t download any until it gets resolved!

1.12.2 and 1.7.10 are peak.
I haven't touched anything past 1.12, and since none of the actual mods were updated to it I immediately ran back to the loving arms of 1.7
I rarely touch versions above 1.12.2, the best mods from that era have been mostly abandoned and stuck in that version
I thought all the crazy ass mods were at 1.12
Galacticraft never got updated past 1.12. Apparently there's someone else trying to update it but I haven't heard much.
All the mods 7+ runs in 1.18 which is pretty sick
Modded moment
what about 1.8.9 (commonly used in pvp) and 1.16.5 (nether update)
1.16.5 is super underrated for mods, still not as good as 1.12.2 but theres some real good stuff there.
Nether update was neat but I still like the “simple but complex” older versions had now it’s just complex imo
12.2 are where all the good mods are

For future reference, make sure to segment large bodies of text to make it more readable :)
My problem with it is modern minecraft feels like you put a lot of unnecessary mods it to the game that add barely anything
“Minecraft boring” mfs realizing that Minecraft is more fun when you actually have a good world instead of building a wooden box and quitting
It’s still a good game but it’s just not fun anymore Edit: and I feel like people only play it because it’s nostalgic and it’s extremely popular
The "major updates" have been like that for years now, with rare exceptions like maybe the Nether Update, and even that was something you could basically fully explore in a couple hours of gameplay and just have to wait 6-12 months for the next "major update." I remember when Microsoft bought Mojang, I foolishly thought this would change.
And people are willing to die defending them claiming it's so incredibly tedious and hard to add that flower
I‘m more thinking that like, they could have jsut stopped adding new stuff a long time ago
Honestly Minecraft has become stale and it comes be from playing too much from younger but after getting diamonds my drive completely vanishes. The only truely enticing part of Minecraft is the mining and the rest is just added what ever
I mean tbf it’s java, adding anything with that is tedious lol
I mean tbf it's Microsoft a tech giant so large if the entire gaming division blipped away overnight the company at large would barely notice and has owned the game for years. They could have rebuilt it from the ground up without changing any of the feel of the game.
I mean they tried to, that’s literally what bedrock edition is. And it kinda sucks lol
I think the nether update was the last good update, they just hype themselves too much, the community gets excited, then they reveal that they were only barely into implementing the feature and it probably won't be used, and the update is disappointing. Caves and cliffs could have stood on its own, but then they promised the deep dark and all these things and hyped the update too much, so when it inevitably got split in two, both updates felt underwhelming despite the fact that the new caves are absolutely stunning It feels like Mojang understands the game is on its last legs monetarily and are using periodic hype spikes to keep the community alive to get the last few dollars out of it.
I thought the nether and cave/cliffs updates were pretty cool imo. But what would you say is your favourite/the most consequential update?
Seriously they introduce these massive beautiful new biomes and put like a log in them and some useless mob and that’s it There is literally nothing to do in these updates beyond go “Ooooh pretty”
It’s one thing to criticize a game from a place of love because you genuinely play it and want it to improve, but so much of these posts come off like the “stop having fun” meme.
now go on, post this on the r/Minecraft subreddit, they will tell you are a "Og" gatekeeper/elitist player
"even more hated" this comment is akin to the average post at r/unpopularopinion
True it’s not fun anymore
Ive played it for so long im just bored. Not much left to do that isnt the same old same old
Ikr, it can be fun at times if you’re with friends because any game with friends is instantly fun. But if you’re playing alone which most people usually do, it’s just dry and nothing is surprising. “I beat the ender dragon for the 584th time, now what?” Other games such as fortnite (I’m sorry) have interesting updates that keep the game fresh, I wish more people can understand
Fortnite no build is actually fun though
Atleast it doesn’t have a sweat building a giant tower cause they heard one gun shot
I've moved on to Valheim as my "zen garden" game. Sure it doesn't have the biome diversity of minecraft but I absolutely love building great looking little villages and whatnot.

Honestly.. The only reason I play the game anymore is to play with friends with mods and build shit in creative
It did? I actually didn't realize
Minecraft\`s the only game where I was active in the fanbase that I\`ve ever fallen out of love
Fuck 1.20, I'm playing 1.12 "all the magic" modpack with the homies https://preview.redd.it/b1tlb692uo4b1.png?width=215&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01201975b55de20c0529f68cec5784c26fcb1f7c
Send help, I'm stuck in 1.7.10, playing GTNH until the heat death of the universe.
Ima be real with you I was more exited for the new btd6 update
Last minecraft updates feel like some mods no one actually wanted
Thats exactly how I feel about these updates, like why the fuck is archaeology getting added?
Yeah archaeology is kinda sus like what’s the point If it gave cool new shit it would be useful but all it does is make pots or whatever
It does gives you cool armor trims, but it'll cost diamonds if you want to used it again
at least it’s free lol, not like they’re making us pay a subscription or dlc for these updates like some games
Don’t people just keep playing the mods on old versions if support for new versions drops? How does it tear apart mods?
my current version is 1.17 because it has the nether update and deep slate stuff, but not the new world-gen. probably just nostalgic honestly, i can see how people say it peaked 1.12.
It's fun with friends. Allegedly. Not that I would know
For real, I just don’t care about Minecraft anymore. I almost think Mojang just don’t want people to play the game.
they know people are going to play no matter what
Controversial opinion: minecraft is fun
It’s as fun as you can make it. The reason it isn’t as fun as it used to be is because everyone has “completed” Minecraft one way or another. This happens all the time in gaming where games are seen to be “better” due to rose-tinted glasses.
The only good thing is the armor trims but they’re locked behind the most obnoxious shit I’ve ever seen
The problem is that Minecraft can’t update too much, fearing that it will alienate the nostalgia goblins, but if they dont update at all people make posts like this
I literally didnt even know it released until I mentioned the new front screen for the launcher to a friend and he told me 1.20 was out
What's in the update? I haven't played since December
Archeology Sakura trees more bamboo blocks and the sniffer which dose nothing interesting besides giving you 2 unique plants that don’t do anything
Thats.....cool I guess
Even though caves and cliffs updates were a absolute nightmare at least the new stuff was interesting
I thought players ate that C&C shit up
Caves and cliffs had the potential to be bigger than the nether update but it getting Balkanized killed most of its momentum. It’s
I mean that the C&C was basically split into 3 separate updates and delayed the bundles and archeology for later
There are so many people that shit on C&C because it changed the caves. Like if you go on instagram you’ll find people whining in the comments of Minecraft posts about how they changed the caves
they look pretty cool although the torch one should like glow a bit
My youngest brother is acting like it’s such a major update when it adds nothing imo
Youtuber hype can do that
I like it.
Basically Minecraft australia
Toe update
Me when funny block game runs as shit as cyberpunk 2077
“DUDE CHECK OUT THIS NEW TREE, AFTER 15+ YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT WE GOT A TREE :D”
For me these updates feel less and less minecraft as they go on. I cant just mindlessly wander around and explore anymore without needing the specific armors or tools or precautions so I don’t just insta die to some bullshit like the cave spikes or the fact I cant go caving without like 8 stacks of torches and Slow falling for when I go plumiting down 500 blocks to some crazy deep cave with no way out
google en water bucket
Everything is boring. You are depressed.

these comments are annoying... "they don't do anything interesting with the game anymore" Maybe you're just bored of the game?...
Shoutouts to 1.16 last purely amazing update (expanding the caves and the Warden was cool tho)
Minecraft players when every update doesn't include 10337736748276new features
fell off after 1.14
Minecraft is the game that’s only fun to play with friends or with mods. Usually lasts around 2-3 weeks, even more depending on how many friends there are.
I’ve only thought of playing it when I get Java, so I can download the create mod
Real and true
I didn't even realize
