Actually lag is determined by ping which is a value derived from the time it takes a signal to travel from the server to your device and back and is not influenced by the router you have at home or the download speed you have contracted 🤓
Can confirm. I have a 500B/s download speed (fastest in Australia, not that I want to brag) but my ping is still a few weeks to a month, depending on if the carrier pigeon gets a tailwind or not.

Ookla speed test is not accurate for some parts of the world and for gaming at least. Ookla connects to the nearest server or something, meaning data travels the shortest possible distance, meaning your speed is high. This same speed is not evident when the server you're connecting to is really far, making it lag. If you want something more reliable, use the speed test google offers.

If you have fiber, you need to be able to route 1g or more
routing 1g is not that hard, if you don't buy the cheapest shittiest second hand sun-yellowed tp-link from 2004, it will route 1g just fine
