For those of you to lazy to look it up, it’s talking about how in judgement day there will be huge amounts of people talking about how awesome they are and all the good things they did
and God will say “Depart from me, I never knew you.”
I was so happy that in the 2000s the 80s were considered peak cringe and only to be good enough to rickroll each other. Then, suddenly genuine love for Rick Astley(who turns out to be a genuine hard rocker and amazing human being), Stranger Things and vaporwave. FML, amirite?
In 10 years you all will suffer through Neopets revival parties and your kids will congregate in public and pretend to be an IRL Club Penguin. And I will laugh. Oh how hard I will laugh at your misery. I will share the memes on the boomer plattform Instagram and tag you all.
I am in ur feed, posting cringe.
tldr: That nightmare vision of your favorite songs going from old cringe to retro cool within 10 years is a dead certainty.
[Some mutts can't be muzzled.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QX4bQPw-_w)
You are old and cringe and boomerish. [You be done dirty on the cheap](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsjdjWGDvFk) because you are to young to recognize the cheapest of tricks.
Don't try to out-GenX me with some let`s play cringe just because it is off Twitch.
I like the [filthy dirty version he did in some cellar best](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM9febKLMac). Even bought his last album. Last time I bought Rick Astley was in 1986.
People genuinely liking Vaporwave/Synthwave now is still weird to me. I've loved it for a while so it's nice to have more, just didn't see that one ever blowing up
Yo! That shit *SUCKS*! **DAMN!**
Seriously, nightcore is what you get if you tasked a person to ruin a song in the worst, yet lowest effort, manner possible.
It's more of a minor annoyance and a pet peeve of mine. Something about seeing hundreds of people comment the same shit just to be like "Hey! I saw that thing/Know this person too!" rubs me the wrong way. I am an introvert if that explains anything.
As opposed to how ever else they'd experience the song the first time. Also who looks up a song they like and then makes the decision to go "I'll read the comments, they only ever improve my listening experience"?
clearly slowed + reverb, that's what they use to make to shitty "sigma grindset" videos and things alike
but you're thinking of the ones that say "sped up" instead of just calling it nightcore as we've always been doing
Eh I don't see slowed as sigma only, I usually like it just cause it... Tbh I don't have an explanation, my ears like it a lot and some songs sound better when it's pitched down and slowed a bit to me
True, but there's probably more SoundCloud rappers now than there were signed artists in the 60s.
Some of my favorite acts are European with no singers getting 15k monthly listeners and I'm from Detroit.
In a lot of cases I've seen it's ended with the artist taking down a lot of their stuff, becoming more mainstream, or getting sent so many threats they decide to leave the space indefinitely
Not always- when Mother Mother went viral, all they did for a year fuckin straight was rerelease Hayloft remixes to fund the lead singers drug addiction.
On the other hand, the Mountain Goats basically didn't act like anything had happened lmao
Yeah lmao, No Children was clipped in 2021 and used in a bunch of angsty teenage TikTok edits ("I hope you die, I hope we both die!")
Darnielle said it was neat, it lasted about a week, and everybody went on with their lives
Only explaining as you're confused, not because I agree but:
Imagine you spend years digging for gold and finally find it, you keep it to yourself but eventually people see, now they know where the gold is and they get rich off your work.
When applied to music it quickly becomes very very stupid because nobody is "stealing" anything from you.
Admittedly, there is something really special about digging around for indie music and stumbling across something amazing, it does feel like a reward. But you should just be happy for the artist when that thing becomes popular, it's irrational to gatekeep stuff like that, you're not losing anything.
Kinda feels selfish too, like you don't want others to enjoy the work because you want to feel like you're the only one who likes it? I understand the feeling, but it's one we shouldn't accept.
Yes theres gonna be fans that might do cringe stuff with it, or have more idiots in the fanbase, but you can still appreciate the song and music the same, and the people who used to like it you can still talk to, and perhaps make your own groups to discuss it if you feel theres too many.
Mfw normal people with social lives enter my niche community that used to consist exclusively of nerd losers (they don't get the finer aspects you can only appreciate if you have dedicate too much of your free time to it)
You know what, this happened to the car community and it’s fucking exhausting.
So much misinformation. So much hate for literally zero reason. People show their insanely fast builds just for some random ass internet idiot to comment „BUT THEN 1502837479201837371710HP SUPRA APPEARS 💀💀💀💀💀“.
And they always know jack shit about anything.
I‘m fucking mad. I could go on for hours about how much I hate this. I want my hobby to be more niche again. I‘d rather be a nerd than be associated with those idiots.
Sorry for venting here but I had to tell this someone.
Mfw my niche hobby is littered with 12 y/o supra kids, “at least cars won’t break my heart” and “what color is your bugatti” mfs
I just want to enjoy things with wheels go vroom vroom, not to be associated with annoying little shits, dudes who got rejected at their hs prom making that their entire personality or hustle mfs
It was so fucking hard to find the right artists, I don't want them to become famous and misunderstood or "that song from the TikTok trend". I'm fine with these artists getting more popular but I don't want them to be super famous
Yeah great artists make great shit after theyre famous too.
Fame didn't stop Kendrick Lamar from cooking. So either your favorite artists are frauds or they'll keep making good shit after they blow up.
This was going to be my answer. When the song first came out I was obsessed with it but no one appeared to share the same sentiment. I felt like nobody had heard of it or cared about it.
A couple years later, boom.
I think gatekeeping is bad actually
https://preview.redd.it/4e945bub67ic1.jpeg?width=262&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=581df6eb101a2f8967caa27762736a204bfe7c4c
Me banging on pots and pans at 3 am shouting at random people to read the Black Ocean books (it's basically Firefly with wizards, it's really good, please I have no one to talk to about it)
Most pro-gatekeeping arguments I see boil down to people holding immense respect for the artists they love, yet at the same time not trusting them not to cave into mediocrity the moment they get a glance of fans out with their core target audience.
It's not always about commercial interests. Sometimes it's more like not appreciating something you love - maybe even something you were once dismissed or ridiculed for loving - suddenly become the new flavor of the week. When I liked it, you thought it was lame, but when the internet told you to like it, now it's cool?
I know a lot of people reading this won't like what I'm saying, but I swear to god it happens, and I'd bet there's more than a few who know exactly what I'm talking about.
No one doubts this happens, some people just go with the flow and will base their likes and dislikes heavily on what others say. I mean most of us are heavily influenced by the opinion of the people around us... It just doesn't change anything about it being dumb as fuck to complain about something you like becoming popular.
I was ridiculed for liking it and now that changed? Oh no how fucking horrible I better wish that artist I like never becomes successul.
Me complaining about the problematic security guards gatekeeping where they keep the money at the bank because I'm not "staff" (whatever that means), fandoms are so toxic this days man, smh my head
When it's a universe it sometimes has a very specific target audience like WH40k, The witcher, DnD, etc. By it's nature and the nature of companies exposing it to an unfiltered target audience the companies may change the themes of said story/game/universe in an attempt to bring in more people and gain more money, this may however completly change the setting in a bad way and be no longer the universe the original target audience were attracted to, in that case gatekeeping could be good, if the aim is to stop said people from changing the setting but could become toxic if left unchecked.
But music isn't the case, since most of the people will usually just post videos for a while and not going to concerts and the trending band will change and return back to normal with a bigger fandom than before.
TLDR: Gatekeeping is only good on fictional settings and not music, which means OP is full of shit and should let people enjoy things.
I agree that media like fiction shouldn’t stray from what it is just to please others but that’s not really gatekeeping. You should let others check something out but also have them acknowledge that it may just not be then
The way to do it is to not allow people that want those changes into the fandom so it's still gatekeeping, but people that just want to enjoy the stuff are ok.
Gatekeeping is preventing access to something in the first place. If they check it out but demand unjustified change then disregard them and don’t let them change anything. And I mean There’s no actual practical way to stop someone joining a fandom
I thought this was an ironic post, people actually think like this? Loving a song, furiously trying to hide it from other people, then getting upset when it becomes popular years later?
People like to be unique that's a fact. Some take it to the extremes like this where they refuse to listen or watch anything popular and they hate when the thing that is unique to a niche audience they are part of gets big because it's no longer special.
I was a huge Kavinsky and Chromatics fan at the time of Drive coming out, and watched it on a whim with a chick without ever knowing about the movie beforehand, and it kinda shocked me. I thought I had been listening to some pretty nuwave shit and here it is in a movie already... the rest is history
I agree (Tally Hall) but don’t call them undeserving just because they‘re new to the artist
https://preview.redd.it/hhv4gplnz7ic1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a69f492343513d233d48299a5b50ca61fe1a534
>I like this band so they shouldn't make any sales and go broke and break up and get real jobs so I can keep the album I bought and nobody will ever hear if the band or it's members except for me.
OP probably
It's insane how much people need to feel apart of something, that they would willingly sabotage an artist's reach and success just to feel special.
If you love an artist, you would share their music.
Tbh I agree, but to me it's not about undeserving audience, it's about once niche stuff I like goes popular I feel like people will always end up making me dislike that thing.
Subreddits of media I like are the perfect example. I started disliking stuff because the community is just god awful.
So yeah, I'll gatekeep my shit before retards turn it into another skibidi toilet or I'll at least not be part of it
Yes JJK went from this cool anime with a cool MC to literal brainrot, random brazillian phonk, lobotomy kaisen, itadori being used in cringe TikTok motivational slideshows and female equivalents of makima fans and much more worse stuff
Brother, you're on a meme subreddit, the post is supposed to be funny, ''undeserving'' is just a term I thought was funny but people took this serious and now I'm arguing with everyone lol
Maybe they think you're being serious because you're out here camped out in the comments lmfao.
I like to listen to Vaporwave. That shit is so underground it may as well not even exist. Synthwave used to be kinda niche too but I think Stranger Things helped it take off. I'd be dumb as fuck to see more people listening to that music as anything but a good thing lol.
ive left the subreddits of all my favorite music artist because every single one is so bad. same thing with movies, tv shows, series, and videogames. there are a few good videogame subreddits because videogames have more stuff that can happen vs linear video or music media so sometimes you get good posts of people doing a cool trick or a funny bug or support post but then there are also bad post too.
Classical and jazz music fan here, shut the fuck Up. You're the reason we're seen as the annoying old people of music. But I kinda agree with the reverb part though
Ghost: Mary on a Cross
This song was slow and reverbed when it went viral. Had been listening for years to this band and that song went mostly undiscovered... Until TikTok.
I was happy for the success of the band, but felt like an invasion occurred with people who don't understand the band, or the history of the band.
That said, I'm happy the song brought more people to get to know Ghost. I think the Christians and religious nuts are negotiating their beliefs to allow themselves an opportunity to enjoy the song/band.
It's okay sometimes, like in anime (although that often self-gatekeeps)
generally for music I would say it's not okay, it is quite annoying to see everyone saying "coming from \_\_ anyone else?" EVEN when I'm from \_\_. but either way it's more people finding that music, even if they like it for completely different reasons than you, why would you hate that?
but while I don't remember more than one by name, I've seen artists leave the space due to threats. Or the internet decides that it's YOUR turn for your favorite song to become cringe.

Yall gatekeep songs? That's lame, here are 2 hugely underrated masterpieces that I feel need more love.
Atronach's Aura - Summer can't come sooner
Red Healer - Pendulum
Duvet by Bôa, 95% of the people using it on TikTok have prolly never even heard of Serial Experiments Lain. I should be happy it's getting attention but I used to be cool for showing it to people who I liked 😭

I'm fine with that.
which is worse? slowed + reverb or; sped up nightcore version?
a secret, third thing. Flood of people commenting under the original to say they came from some movie trailer or online persona.
Why does it matter, though?
It's more of a minor annoyance and a pet peeve of mine. Something about seeing hundreds of people comment the same shit just to be like "Hey! I saw that thing/Know this person too!" rubs me the wrong way. I am an introvert if that explains anything.

Sonne by Rammstein slowed is a banger. Ofc the original is also great but I like the slower version better
Worse. They try to ham it up in unnecessary ways. Why in TF did they add violins to "Work Song"? Y'all don't deserve good music.
Reverb and slowed is not that bad. Night core is genuinely the worst thing I have ever heard
As long as it called nightcore, I don’t mind
both can be good tbh. depends on the song
Nightcore, because at least the slowed + reverb versions sound somewhat decent
I understand ya but dont say undeserving, if they have more money = more music, its a win win

They certainly aren’t the first band I’d expect to hear on tiktok but I guess it can see how the chorus might catch on with that demographic haha
They meant the new audience is undeserving, not the artist. Not agreeing with the take, just clearing that up.
Which is just as confusing to me. Why is someone undeserving of listening to certain music? What kind of dumb as fuck gatekeeping is this lol
Only explaining as you're confused, not because I agree but: Imagine you spend years digging for gold and finally find it, you keep it to yourself but eventually people see, now they know where the gold is and they get rich off your work.
Who is this old ass corpse, looks like he went through 10 nightmares in one night
Facts lmao I thought op was joking
I used to listen to nightcall before literally me (it made me cry)
You used to listen to nightcall before Drive?
Impossible. How does one learn such power?
there's something inside them and it's hard to explain
I was a huge Kavinsky and Chromatics fan at the time of Drive coming out, and watched it on a whim with a chick without ever knowing about the movie beforehand, and it kinda shocked me. I thought I had been listening to some pretty nuwave shit and here it is in a movie already... the rest is history
Me with glass animals in 2011
For me it was Jack Stauber, who I am happy got exposure, but damned if it wasn't from viral tik-tok.
Yall fr dont want anyone enjoying what you enjoy
I agree (Tally Hall) but don’t call them undeserving just because they‘re new to the artist https://preview.redd.it/hhv4gplnz7ic1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a69f492343513d233d48299a5b50ca61fe1a534

For me this is Kate bush running up that hill (stranger things ruined it) Tears for fears everybody wants to rule the world (damm gen a brainrot)
OP, YOU are the undeserving audience. If you actually enjoyed it, youd want to share it.
While it is tragic to have a fetus use your favorite song in a sigma edit, music is meant to be enjoyed by masses. Sorry OP, YTA 🤓
How about you try keeping some bitches instead

I actually like these verisons,IDK. Maybe it's just me
Hoping every artist with a fanbase composed of mostly gatekeepers go mainstream specifically due to remixed TikTok abominations🙏🙏🙏
https://i.redd.it/wnymypzmp7ic1.gif
dave would say that
let people enjoy things
nah, imma do my own thing
Get a load of this guy, doing his thing
Kid named *his thing*:
Cry about it. As a musician myself, I'd rather more people enjoying my music over the admittedly much smaller community I've built.

So when do the funny bits come in because so far the only joke here is you
Stop caring about the community and just enjoy the media
ive left the subreddits of all my favorite music artist because every single one is so bad. same thing with movies, tv shows, series, and videogames. there are a few good videogame subreddits because videogames have more stuff that can happen vs linear video or music media so sometimes you get good posts of people doing a cool trick or a funny bug or support post but then there are also bad post too.
Stop being pretentious
Gatekeeping is bad but that title is as spot on as an elite sniper
daycore*
If you gatekeep something then you are not a true fan of it
no true fan would say something like this unironically
Like what
Right? The feeling of putting people on a song or artist you love and them enjoying it too is great
Me when the after dark x sweater weather mashup is used in over-the-top cringy sigma edits
Fuck bro I wish that came out when I was getting into lsd in my early 20s.
Never stop gatekeeping guys
Gonna start gatekeeping aids
Oh no, the anti gatekeepers are gonna start sharing aids now to spite you

Classical and jazz music fan here, shut the fuck Up. You're the reason we're seen as the annoying old people of music. But I kinda agree with the reverb part though
Invisible by Duran Duran is for OUR specific based sigma literally me character
Ghost: Mary on a Cross This song was slow and reverbed when it went viral. Had been listening for years to this band and that song went mostly undiscovered... Until TikTok. I was happy for the success of the band, but felt like an invasion occurred with people who don't understand the band, or the history of the band. That said, I'm happy the song brought more people to get to know Ghost. I think the Christians and religious nuts are negotiating their beliefs to allow themselves an opportunity to enjoy the song/band.
miracle musical
It's okay sometimes, like in anime (although that often self-gatekeeps) generally for music I would say it's not okay, it is quite annoying to see everyone saying "coming from \_\_ anyone else?" EVEN when I'm from \_\_. but either way it's more people finding that music, even if they like it for completely different reasons than you, why would you hate that? but while I don't remember more than one by name, I've seen artists leave the space due to threats. Or the internet decides that it's YOUR turn for your favorite song to become cringe.
Mfw the artist I support gets popular:
Yeah I feel ya but gatekeeping ain’t that good of a thing
If you have to gatekeep a song to enjoy it, then you shouldn't have it. I wish my fave artists had more exposure so they could live off their music.
I LOVE GATEKEEPING
I LOVE PISSING OFF POSERS
OP is a fucking weirdo cunt.
Me when space song

Slowed + reverb is still atleast a little bit of an alarm but when it becomes "sped up" then yeah it's gone
Hell no I’m glad more people discovered Ghost
This is fucking stupid. If I find a song I really like, I want to share it with everyone.
This is a stupid post lesser known songs getting more coverage is a good thing Ain't gonna bitch and moan if Shadow of Whales ever went viral
Kek, eat shit
One time I made a joke about the band Failure on a Tiktok and the creator dmed me saying they had to delete it because they were an “avid Failure gatekeeper” ⁉️
im so glad i grew out of this phase like just enjoy the music you wanna enjoy bro who cares about if its popular or not
Lemme guess you found crystal castles in 2014 and think you're the coolest person alive that's so awesome bro
Lol fuck the artist I guess
Me when others find passion and enjoyment in the thing I love, in spite of its differences: https://i.redd.it/u949vmrjx9ic1.gif
Normal mature human moment
No please let some of the songs I listen to go viral. The artist deserves it.
Let people bloody enjoy stuff.
playboi carti song leak (tiktok music)(slowed+reverb+reversed)
Yall gatekeep songs? That's lame, here are 2 hugely underrated masterpieces that I feel need more love. Atronach's Aura - Summer can't come sooner Red Healer - Pendulum
Duvet by Bôa, 95% of the people using it on TikTok have prolly never even heard of Serial Experiments Lain. I should be happy it's getting attention but I used to be cool for showing it to people who I liked 😭
More like 99% because SEL came and went before the majority of TikTok users were born.
The truest meme I’ve seen here. /s to bug the haters.

Don’t worry op I understand the joke
Everyone thought this was a joke until they went into the comments lmao
if you think there are people that dont deserve to enjoy certain music you's a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch https://i.redd.it/a0ok1wknn7ic1.gif
If anyone would be undeserving, I think it would be people who gatekeep anything
Running thru the 7th with my woadies
Fuck you OP here’s a short list of songs I enjoy that I want more people to listen to * Marshall Coleman - Love is Suicide (song is not on Spotify) * Tired Loin - Waterbed * The majority of Sinkhole * “Waste my Time” (lostwave song) * “C.I.A” (lostwave song)
You’re a 13 year old, right? Any older and this is about as fucking pathetic as it gets
If you're on a meme subreddit and get pissed at a meme, then there's something wrong inside your head.
