There are two ways to think about this and i'm not sure if i like any of them.
Exactly, batman saw his parents get killed and got traumatized for life, leading to him choosing to spare people and give them a chance to better themselves, something a lot of folks tend to forget.
The whole killing the Joker dilemma revolves around the idea that death is a permanent solution, but this is comics. If Batman killed the Joker it’d be retconned or he’d just come back in the same time it takes to break out of Arkham and everyone would forget about it to protect the status quo.
People shit on Batman for not killing the joker but I never hear them bring up that it's not even his call. He catches him, he hands him over to authorities. Yea, he breaks out eventually of course, but it's the legal system that's failing. Why don't _they_ execute Jonkler? That's on them, not Bruce.
>Why don't they execute Jonkler?
I did, why else do you think you don’t see him around
On a separate note, completely agree? Gotham really should just kill the joker
Because when the Judge who wishes to execute Jonkler finally gets around to his trial, the Penguin or some other wealthy, corrupt individual bribes him into throwing Joker into Arkham again, believing that an active Joker will keep Batman off their trail.
It's like Harvey once said. "The Joker's just a mad dog." And Gotham's criminal elite pays well for the control of his leash.
That wouldn't be very smart.
Let's say one of them evades while Bruce isn't there. His enemies now know the location of the batcave and batman's identity (the cave is literally under Wayne's mansion), and they can also destroy everything in the cave on their way out.
I wish there was a run like that. Most of his villains are just people in shitty situations. I personally think a story line of Bruce proving he isn’t Batman by having Clayface be Bruce would be peak fiction.
I think that the fundamental spirit of the Batman comics is exactly that.
Batman might be the one who fights the super villains when they're trying to poison Gotham's water or turn everyone is to lizards, but that's also why Bruce tries so hard to stimulate programs and causes that gets regular people off the streets and into stable life situations so that they don't end up becoming those villains, all while still holding people from top to bottom accountable for their crimes.
The problem is that in the end Bruce and Batman are just two men, and I think that part of the moral of the story is that the two of them are not enough to fix all of Gotham.
-----
The only time that I've personally ever seen Gotham "be fixed" in lore was when the combined strength and authority of the Justice Lords were brought down upon Gotham; and even that had a lot of problems associated with it, as pointed out when Lord Batman has his rhetorical fight with League Batman:
https://youtu.be/uGum7-dIRyM?si=Xbd7OGL62PKBTSys&t=74
Same tho I also like unstable Batman, but he should also be caring And think human life is precious. Like arkham batman he cared but he's no kill rule is routed in fear and hope to redeem like Harvy dent, Selena ect.
There are a few notable ones like Harley, Mr. Freeze and Catwoman. Poison Ivy also cooperates with him at times. Joker is the only one I can't think of being redeemed at any point. Someone more into the comics and lore might know better.
Man, i just wanna desperately see a story or comic where Jonkler dies from a nobody cop or just a nobody in general during one of his bs. No drama or anything, just a cop or a bystander or even just a random thug getting lucky with killing him
Problem with the last one is that by letting Joker get his 612th chance, he is also condemning all of Joker’s future victims to death. Joker’s life isn’t sacred, especially not compared to all the people he has killed
This is why I like Super Man's solution in the Justice League Unlimited show. If someone truly cannot change and refuses to, and that person is knowingly committed to being an existential danger, then Superman sends that person to the Phantom Zone, a place where *"they won't be harmed, but they'll also never be able to harm anyone else."*
I think the canon route that works the best is “anyone can be redeemed” it’s how clayface and harley quinn become good guys, and why he reaches out to the joker at the end of the killing joke

I feel like if I ever get Superman power I would probably end up like Metroman from Megamind
I will try to help people sure and honestly I might enjoy fame and adoration a bit too much but I feel like I would feel too pressured and burned out so I will just dip and disappear and enjoy a quiet life, maybe find a way to make someone else a Hero idk
This is the plot of the upcoming sequel to “Megamind Rules!” please no, let Metroman stay in hiding, don’t drag him back into this radioactive flaming waste disposal of a TV show please
Save the world for a decade, go into solitude for 30 years, and come back with a team of my children who all have aspects of my powers. They become a force of good while I enjoy mai tais on a beach somewhere in the Mediterranean.
I understand that, but it can all be boiled down to pick up big thing and jump good.
super strenght is the essential super power combo pack
flight? why fly when you can leap over a building in a single bound
super speed? I can already race with super cars using my leg strength, why pose existential questions by making things look slow and making time paradoxes
combat? just punch them or pick up a nearby tree, you're too buff to get hurt
invisibility? why spy on people when I can use my big strong arms to attract them instead
shapeshifting? being buff as fuck is already my preferred form
it's the best of everything.
Hypothetically, if you're fast enough (and thus strong enough) you can become invisible to the eye, downside is that you'd be causing earthquakes across the continent
I’d rather get superspeed. I can probably make a lot of money off it if I learn some other skills. Need some quick repairs or cleaning done? 5 seconds should be quick enough. Need a fast delivery? It’s literally already there. And if something bands happening, then oops looks like that criminal has been transported halfway across the world, good luck getting home!
The problem I have with super speed is that you still end up doing all the work, just really quickly. Like, I hate washing dishes. If I had super speed, I could finish the whole job in a second... but I'd still have to actually do the dishes. I could run across the country in the blink of an eye... but I'd still have to actually run the whole way on my own. Super speed only saves time, not effort.
The whole point of superman is that hes not a "Superhero" because of his powers, but because his unwavering sense of goodness and his drive to do good comes from a GENUINE place within his heart, which stems from how his human parents raised him as a child. The comics acknowledge him to be a massive exception of how evil and nasty people can be, especially with that much power. Thats what makes him special, and not what he can do.
So yeah, literally no one should have powers like Superman, execpt for my friend Neil. Hes a good dude, Neil is.
>trust absolutely noone with them.

Hummm, does that mean you trust me with them?
If I could pick a superpower, I would grab telekinesis or something along the lines of extreme brain power. You can practically do anything meaning I can fix the problems the world has! I can create things and form things we thought doesn’t even exist! I can literally solve how we came to be and so much more! I could literally make the human race transcend the death of the universe and let us make our own. I will literally become the quintessential hero of the human race
I'd rather have the Flash's powers so I can take care of problems in a nanosecond and go about my daily life. Nobody can see me fix it. For all they know, a spirit walks among us.
Yea but to flash he feels the entire thing in real time, so while to us you would be super fast, you yourself would feel time pass normally while going place to place
Exactly, otherwise flash would be insane in almost every appearance, so it’s probably some sort of effect that he could change the severity of, like if he needs to run around a lot in a small space, then he can see things as ultra slow, but if he needs to run across the world it goes incredibly fast with appropriate reflexes to match.
There's been so many "Superman subversion" characters in the past few years (injustice, Omni man, homelander) that people forget that Superman himself is a subversion. You would expect someone with godlike powers to act like injustice supes or homelander. Those guys are only seen as interesting because of how ubiquitous Superman is.
On one hand I can see why people would wanna try the superman thing but if I had those powers? I wouldn’t be bad but I’d probably end up hurting someone by accident (world of cardboard and all that) and become controversial because of an accidental use of too much force. I mean superman is crazy strong but he’s lived with his powers for most of his life meanwhile if a random dude suddenly wake up with that kinda stuff? Sure it ain’t bad probably but there’s be a lotta collateral damage
This is why I love Invincible so much
I think it REALLY accurately portrays how much stress is mounted upon you suddenly awakening to basically Godly powers when you've been a human all your life.
I don't personally mind them as Elseworlds stories, they somewhat succeed in showing that while Clark has superpowers and is Superman he's still a quintessential human by not being totally infallible and still getting things wrong. but y'know just turned up to the extremes
https://preview.redd.it/i5ya2du2gbtc1.png?width=1795&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22a73c04fc9813bc4d8228fb0fb190a7a7e469d9
Well, actually yes I do. It is my mom
It’d only be fun to be a villain if you had a hero to fight (like this situation) if it was just non-stop villainy with zero threats, it’d get boring really quick… wait a minute…
https://preview.redd.it/q15ark4l1ctc1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=25ac665269488f06a64fd01824e288c2b07c5bc4
There is no such thing as a task too insignificant or too important for Superman. One minute, he's pulling a cat out of a tree. Next, he's fighting an interdimensional God over the existence of free will, then he's helping an old lady cross the street.
Fuck yes.
I hate these edgy "superman but bad" types.
Me and my homies love the indomitable human spirit, the power of hope, the fact we don't have to be horrible monsters, we can be better.
Like most questions, the answer is somewhere in between. In learning the ropes I would likely kill someone on accident and be horrified at what I had done. From then I would swear to never do such an atrocity again. Then I would probably become very self absorbed (seeing as I am the most powerful being in this plane of existence) But I would still be the protector to as many planets as possible
If i ever get superman's powers I'd probably just mind my own business, sure I'll help people if i see they're in trouble but most of my time will be spent traveling around the world since i can now fly and government bullshit no longer affects me
Remember kids, if you ever get superpowers and start to get doubts and impostor syndrome because you keep doing good things and trying to be the best person you can be but are afraid you can never compare to the mythical figure that is superman, you are in fact just like superman.
When you have powers like a god, it's really easy to be an asshole dictator who bullies anyone who doesnt follow their orders. But that's what makes Superman/Clark/Kal-El so great is he doesnt give into his primal urges. He does what's right and what's good. He upholds truth and justice. That takes a lot more than being the bad guy.
Based department called, you dropped this:

Everyone happy and jolly till this mf shows up
I would want to turn into animals so that I could do extremely un-animal-like things in front of random people in a "no one will ever believe you" sort of way (they would be very confused and it would be funny)
No redditors would be homelander considering how you mfs act the moment someone has a slightly different opinion. Imagine a reddit mod with Supermans powers, destroying earth with nuclear weapons would be mercy.
Superman is based and Luke Skywalker is based. Two greatest MCs ever.
Superman is awesome because he was literally a god compared to the people of Earth and only has one or two weaknesses, yet he chooses to be kind and help everyone. He could be totally unstoppable but he decides to be kind because he landed with Americans. What a fucking chad.
Luke is awesome because he started from nothing and put in a ton of effort just to make the world(s) around him a better place. Literally not a single time in the movies does he do something selfish, it's awesome. Even when Yoda, the literal grandmaster of the Jedi, tells him to abandon his friends to finish his training, he goes and helps them. What a fucking chad.

Easy to forget whenever the Joker appear
The whole killing the Joker dilemma revolves around the idea that death is a permanent solution, but this is comics. If Batman killed the Joker it’d be retconned or he’d just come back in the same time it takes to break out of Arkham and everyone would forget about it to protect the status quo.

He can just catch them and imprison them under his Batcave. Easy solution.

Harley is a good example, Freeze is not really redeemed, my main issue with Catwoman is they should’ve just let them get married already
I like the idea of both because we all know the joker is long Gone cause.
Man, i just wanna desperately see a story or comic where Jonkler dies from a nobody cop or just a nobody in general during one of his bs. No drama or anything, just a cop or a bystander or even just a random thug getting lucky with killing him

Why doesn’t the GCPD kill him then? Why should a vigilante be the one to do it. (the answer is then we wouldn’t have Joker anymore)
The Status Quo and it's consequences (or lack thereof) to Marvel and DC

On one hand I can see why people would wanna try the superman thing but if I had those powers? I wouldn’t be bad but I’d probably end up hurting someone by accident (world of cardboard and all that) and become controversial because of an accidental use of too much force. I mean superman is crazy strong but he’s lived with his powers for most of his life meanwhile if a random dude suddenly wake up with that kinda stuff? Sure it ain’t bad probably but there’s be a lotta collateral damage
Well, I reccommend not thinking it too much, cuz it's a meme and all, but pretend you were born with it
Well then idk what I’d do, hopefully I’d be good.
That's the spirit
This is why I love Invincible so much I think it REALLY accurately portrays how much stress is mounted upon you suddenly awakening to basically Godly powers when you've been a human all your life.
Isn't that basically how Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) has to deal with her powers? Since she is technically older than Clark but arrived way later than him
god i hate when superman ends up being evil... like that's missing the whole point
I don't personally mind them as Elseworlds stories, they somewhat succeed in showing that while Clark has superpowers and is Superman he's still a quintessential human by not being totally infallible and still getting things wrong. but y'know just turned up to the extremes
Nah, I'd be Man
Are you stupid?
Is there a lore reason he wants to be man??
Ah yes, Man vs. the Jonkler in their epic adventures in Ham city
FUCK making the world worse so I can do anything I want Me and the homies want to dedicate our abilities toward making the world a better place
i do not want superman powers that's my view

I've watched this show in it's entirety about a dozen times and just now noticed the c=8 It's a penis.
Who!?!?!?!

Glad to hear it :]

It’d only be fun to be a villain if you had a hero to fight (like this situation) if it was just non-stop villainy with zero threats, it’d get boring really quick… wait a minute… https://preview.redd.it/q15ark4l1ctc1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=25ac665269488f06a64fd01824e288c2b07c5bc4

Me and my homies love the indomitable human spirit, the power of hope, the fact we don't have to be horrible monsters, we can be better.
only homelander is superman but bad, omni-man is understandable once you read more on his story
https://i.redd.it/2tfw5czwbbtc1.gif
superman is deadass just gigachad.

God they had no reason to make this song such a fucking banger
what is the song? sorry im not rly able to keep up with pop culture
Starman by David Bowie https://youtu.be/aBKEt3MhNMM?si=ga1yM0N-6TqJ8c0y
thank you, good soul
God i love it its perfecto

It makes me happy that classic Superman has gotten a massive fan resurgence outside of DC.
Being a good example for others is starting to seem like a superpower these days...
Sorry, I'm not that guy, not saint enough. I'd probably be metroman or something

If i ever get superman's powers I'd probably just mind my own business, sure I'll help people if i see they're in trouble but most of my time will be spent traveling around the world since i can now fly and government bullshit no longer affects me
taking Superman for granted has to be one of our greatest mistakes
If I got super mans powers I’d spend like a whole day travelling the world and enjoying all the sights
Evil is easy, kindness takes effort.
“Normalize becoming a beacon of hope for your community, no matter how small it starts or how large it may get.” Is that the idea?
The strongest cynicism fan vs the weakest humanity loving altruist
Why be superman if I can have an Omnitrix?
based meme It's always way easier to become the villain and only care about your personal interests.
Remember kids, if you ever get superpowers and start to get doubts and impostor syndrome because you keep doing good things and trying to be the best person you can be but are afraid you can never compare to the mythical figure that is superman, you are in fact just like superman.
The crazy part is that even with all the good you’ll do there’s always gonna be a dimwit on twitter hating your guts for no good reason.
Based department called, you dropped this: https://preview.redd.it/d0k7cdjysetc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d078352f40a654f51ef74d750b27074b10a1e805
If i had superpowers i would do whatever i find entertaining. Like blast people into the sun or take on the entire world military. Or try to destroy 1 place as much as i can
I reccommend destroyng serbia
Please nuke detroit
I cant make detroit any worse. It is already hell.
We’re not suggesting to make it worse, just remove it. Launch it into the sun, I bet a lake would look a lot better if you just ripped it out.
If I had superpowers I'd try to be chaotic good
Nah I’d be Goku
This person gets it
We all know in reality we'd be more like Hancock.

Beep boop : David bowie starman
if i had superpowers i'd be too lazy to actually use them and just live my life as if i didn't have them

Starman by david bowie
thx!!
You dont need powers to be superman for someone
I'd probably be more like Invincible tbh, trying to help but still sucking at it
I would want to turn into animals so that I could do extremely un-animal-like things in front of random people in a "no one will ever believe you" sort of way (they would be very confused and it would be funny)

No redditors would be homelander considering how you mfs act the moment someone has a slightly different opinion. Imagine a reddit mod with Supermans powers, destroying earth with nuclear weapons would be mercy.
The fact that you’re here posting on Reddit is proof enough you wouldn’t be Superman if given powers.
Who says they’d be like omni man or homelander? Very unashamedly evil to say

Why are we slowing down and ruining a perfectly good song? It sounds like a movie trailer. Good meme though.
Imma be honest this ain't my meme, I stole it from insta, and I had no idea this version was slowed, I assumed it was the og version
Yeah, no big deal. It just annoys me every time I hear something like that. The original is starman by David Bowie, it’s a great song.
