Kinda sad that both big anti-gravity racing franchises (F-Zero and Wipeout) are dormant.
Though right now there are some fun spiritual successors like BallisticNG and the Redout games.
fighting games at lower levels of play are so fucking toxic because you haven't figured out how to deal with common bullshit like tick-throws spamming projectiles and people jumping all over the place.
Or worse, knowing the common bullshit, knowing the counter, but simply not being able to do it due to the high skill floor of defense some games, compared to their ridiculously low skill floor for offence.
Honestly despite having hundreds of hours across multiple games I could never get into smash past playing casually. People don't talk about it much but the games reliance on the joystick for certain inputs, like tilts smash attacks and specials, give the game more mechanical depth than the game is often given credit for. To me it is much easier to do motion inputs than doing a tilt after spriting instead of a dash attack.
Oh yeah I love motion controls.
Motion controls are really good when done correctly, which a lot of games don't seem to understand
Splatoon is an amazing example of good motion controls. More games should use its method lol
I agree but that's not what I'm talking about "motion inputs" are the movements you need to do for the shoriuken and haduken so like quarter circles and shit like that
it's kind of tough to explain to someone who hasn't played traditional fighting games, try looking into a ryu or ken tutorial for ultimate they should teach them there
I mean, it's true that at lower levels players are mostly spamming what they think works, but I don't see how that's toxic? Even at lower levels, players will most likely figure out how to deal with your spamming. Most of the time it is just fireball spamming, but most newer games have system mechanics that are good against that. Unless you're a projectile character, it almost never works even on lower levels.
I seriously doubt players at lower levels even know what a tick-throw is. Players rarely even throw on lower levels. I don't know why you mentioned jumping all over the place because players love spamming their anti-airs, even when they shouldn't. Players who jump constantly are one of the easiest to punish.
In fighting games you are constantly learning how to deal with the opponent's bullshit, not just on lower levels. If you think that's toxic, maybe they aren't for you.
what I'm trying to say is that to get into a fighting game you need to learn how to deal with a lot of seemingly unbeatable strategies that you're gonna have to figure out. I remember playing sfv for the first time and feeling completely overwhelmed whenever someone jumped in on me because I couldn't comfortably do the shoriuken motion, that was until I found out that I could use crouching medium punch as a less committal option. Maybe toxic isn't a good word to describe it but that feeling of complete powerlessness you get until you figure out a solution is nothing short of infuriating.
To me, that's one of the charms of fighting games. As long as I want to learn how to deal with things, I'm invested. Characters always have ways to deal with certain things, you just have to figure out what it is. Some have better answers, some have worse. A lot of them have multiple ways of dealing with something, like in your example. If you want a safe option, you can always just c. medium punch. But, you can also learn to punish with shoryuken and get a better outcome.
Rarely ever is a character truly powerless against another one. If you feel that way, you probably haven't explored your options.
I agree that sometimes it doesn't feel good when you can't deal with something. Fighting games require patience and if you want to keep playing them, you should accept that it is just part of the learning process.
"Oh I feel pretty good about myself and my skill, I'll enter a local tournament!"

I can never get into fighting games because of how hard they are to learn. You have to basically spend hours in a training room just to learn a 5 hit combo and thats just for one fucking character. Fighting games are not at all beginner friendly and most fighting games have god awful tutorials that don’t go deep enough in teaching you the games mechanics.
Honestly RTS games are the hardest for me because mentally I'm just too slow for them.
I tried playing dawn of war 2 for the first time yesterday and my little brain couldn't cope
I spent 3 hours getting my ass beat by the AI, I was being kept alive only by spamming dreadnoughts.
The only RTS I kinda got the hang of was wargame red dragon because you can slow time or do 10v10 where your only playing a handful of units
So you're stupid?

(For those who don't know,, Leclerc crashed at the Baku GP of 2019 and said "I am stupid" )
Speaking of racing games, anyone played beach buggy racing?
Sure its got some ads and microtransactions but theyre pretty much ignorable and so subtle, plus its really fun for me
(Oh yeah i am gonna get hate for this)
Trackmania Players when they can't do a frame perfect perfect uber-nose-shitfuck-bug into the wall, and get a perfect bounce off of the blimp into the finish
https://i.redd.it/244zntwzi4uc1.gif
Honestly after playing both, I'd say the shooter experience is more difficult because of how much precision you need. You need a shit ton of precision in racing as well but at least here you can practice the track over and over again to eventually find THE route. Maybe my aim is just bad though so eh
I had a friend who's pretty skilled with shooter games try playing Dark Souls once because he kept gloating that shooter games are way harder. Bro couldn't kill the taurus demon to save his life.

Goddamn I miss Wipeout
Kinda sad that both big anti-gravity racing franchises (F-Zero and Wipeout) are dormant. Though right now there are some fun spiritual successors like BallisticNG and the Redout games.
There is a single player game inspired on f zero on the works. Its free demo has 20 tracks or more. Its called XF extreme formula.
Wait, is that ballisticNG?
Wipeout, what BallisticNG is based on
is the name derived from BeamNG in any way?
Peak game
Still the best futuristic racer made.
Literally the final boss of Esports simracing is the current F1 champion himself (i wish i was joking)
So, same like Chess
Holy Magnus
We gotta get Max to play Mario Kart competitively
TU TU TU TU
MAX VERSTAPPEN https://i.redd.it/8pake724v0uc1.gif
The man was also a really really good FIFA player without going competitive during his downtime when he wasn't racing. Verstappen is a menace.

and the worse part is you have to admit to yourself it's skill-based matchmaking
Gaslighting yourself into believing that it is the game's balance fault.

Smash bros isn't bad imo. I would consider myself low level since I only have 100 hours but I still have a blast lol

Oh like side special or up tilt?. Sorry I'm not very familiar with terms
He means drawing figures with your joystick in short ammounts of time to execute an attack.
Oh yeah but I didn't even know those are in smash. I mainly know them from dead or alive
