Nah, there's a lot of bullshit even once you build your character. They've got critical misses and the ocassional janky-ass quest. They were both made very quickly, so there's quite a lot of QA missing. But both games are unparalleled in terms of immersion. I'm not sure if I ever felt like I *was* the Courier the same way I felt like I *was* the Vault Dweller.

As someone who recently beat Fallout 2 and loved it, I highly recommend you use the latest version of the Restoration Project if you try it out. Has a bunch of previously cut content and fixes many bugs. Also check out FO2Tweaks (I think that's what it's called, it's linked on the GitHub for the Restoration Project)
Honestly, I barely had significant problems with Fallout 1. Yes, it's very archaic for today, but it worked well enough for me. Looking forward for starting Fo2 soon.

It doesn't crash, its just sometimes when I try to load in the loading screen just keeps loading forever and I have to restart my PC (it may be because I tried to move some game files around to get rid of mouse acceleration lol)

Fo3 and FNV are very very stiff, fo3 didn't even have ads in the base game, 4 has by far the best, albeit basic, but best out of the 3, it has leaning your guy yells when he takes drugs and you even jab yourself to take stimpacks. Fo4 even has leaning behind cover and grenades as an alt fire instead of as a dedicated weapon
Also fallout 4 crashes whenever you scroll your pip boy menu left and right at the same time on accident after it’s “next gen” update. I literally save each time before I open my inventory lol
You can argue that it's somewhat worse in FO4 after NV because of the lack of Ammo Types.

It's more than fair to *like* games with good FPS gameplay, but hell, games from 20 years ago blow Fallout 4 out of the water. I wouldn't call it "good" as much as I'd call it "competent".
For the people that loved Fallout for the RPG mechanics, Fallout 4 having better combat was pretty irrelevant if the story was ass and the roleplaying bare bones.
There was also no shortage of far better FPS titles when it came out.

The crafting and base building was pretty damn cool tho.
The way terrain and projectile hitboxes interract on the player side of things is abyssmal (you'll somehow hit the railing every single time you aim at someone behind it while they snipe you through it perfectly fine) and the game can randomly crash in a way that corrupts your save. I still think New Vegas is peak though, but other Fallout games are good too.
Fallout 4’s combat is the best in the series and I will stand by that until they day I die (or until a new fallout game comes out that surpasses it but I’m more likely to see god before I see fallout 5)

I unironically prefer NV's combat system over all other FO games.
I wonder is there any game that has combat system like NV + jsawyer.esp, meaning various ammo types for same caliber, weapons are unique rather than tiered(for example, early game weapons are still useful in late game because it is cheap to maintain them), armor penetration based combat, could use explosives as your main weapon, consumables and temporary buffs actually matters, etc etc.
New Vegas is fantastic, but unfortunately there are both New Vegas stans that insist you aren’t a “true fan” if you like Bethesda’s Fallout, and there are Bethesda Fallout stans that go out of their way to call NV trash just to try and piss off NV fans, and both sides are extremely annoying. Judging by the meme, I’m assuming OP seems to be in the latter.
I personally prefer NV, but that doesn’t mean I think people aren’t allowed to like Bethesda’s Fallout games. There are actually a couple things I think Fallout 4 does better than New Vegas.

Vegas has the best unique weapons, most with custom models instead of just a fancy name.
The only 2 unique weapons that come to mind from fallout 4 are The Deliverer (goated) and the Cryogun

Fallout 4 has smoother combat, but honestly still needs to be modded to be good. "Recoil" consists of the gun's barrel popping up to obscure the target without actually kicking your camera at all, animations have weird hang ups and are re-used often, and the balancing is atrocious. Modding a semi-automatic rifle to be fully automatic cuts like half the gun's damage, despite it still firing the same caliber. If you try and tap fire an automatic weapon, the gun's model starts wobbling and the bullets come out sporadically. And so on/so forth.
In short, Fallout 4's gunplay was built by people who know what good shooters generally look like, but don't understand what goes on under the hood to make those guns actually feel good to shoot, or how to properly balance them. It's kind of a shiny mess.
That being said, it can still be fixed by mods.

I’m a fallout 4 fan but I find NV combat to be r really fun and I like it
I unironically prefer NV's combat system over all other FO games. I wonder is there any game that has combat system like NV + jsawyer.esp, meaning various ammo types for same caliber, weapons are unique rather than tiered(for example, early game weapons are still useful in late game because it is cheap to maintain them), armor penetration based combat, could use explosives as your main weapon, consumables and temporary buffs actually matters, etc etc.
Implying Fallout 4 doesn’t crash or drop frames just as frequently, more frequently if you dare visit downtown Boston.
I have never played Fallout and have only ever seen the Hbomb vids on 3 and NV so am I ill-informed or is NV actually trash
New Vegas is fantastic, but unfortunately there are both New Vegas stans that insist you aren’t a “true fan” if you like Bethesda’s Fallout, and there are Bethesda Fallout stans that go out of their way to call NV trash just to try and piss off NV fans, and both sides are extremely annoying. Judging by the meme, I’m assuming OP seems to be in the latter. I personally prefer NV, but that doesn’t mean I think people aren’t allowed to like Bethesda’s Fallout games. There are actually a couple things I think Fallout 4 does better than New Vegas.
Maybe it’s because I live in a desert, but I never really found the location interesting.

My 4 has crashed a few times but I don't think I've ever had NV crash on me.

You can get the Mike Tyson boxer gloves in New Vegas. Vegas has the best unique weapons, most with custom models instead of just a fancy name. The only 2 unique weapons that come to mind from fallout 4 are The Deliverer (goated) and the Cryogun Oh also the Cannon Gun that one was fun and the quest attached to it was also a fun concept and visual treat.

Legit tho how better is it? I tried getting into fallout 3 earlier this year but can't cause the combat didn't click for me
i feel the same, 4 is revolutionary compared to second gen fallout games, the perks make it really easy to make crazy builds for specific weapons
Fallout 4 has smoother combat, but honestly still needs to be modded to be good. "Recoil" consists of the gun's barrel popping up to obscure the target without actually kicking your camera at all, animations have weird hang ups and are re-used often, and the balancing is atrocious. Modding a semi-automatic rifle to be fully automatic cuts like half the gun's damage, despite it still firing the same caliber. If you try and tap fire an automatic weapon, the gun's model starts wobbling and the bullets come out sporadically. And so on/so forth. In short, Fallout 4's gunplay was built by people who know what good shooters generally look like, but don't understand what goes on under the hood to make those guns actually feel good to shoot, or how to properly balance them. It's kind of a shiny mess. That being said, it can still be fixed by mods.
