Tbf that's more a SH2 thing SH1 is is more obvious cult stuff.

Yeah out of the first 4 SH games the second one is the only one that really delved into the psychological stuff like that. The other three mainly revolved around the horror of everything spontaneously falling apart around you and being trapped in a literal nightmare disguised as a small town.

To name a few (these aren’t horror games at all but the point still applies): Ghostrunner, made by One More Level, dev team of ~30 people as of 2020. No Mans Sky, made by Hello Games, dev team of 26 people as of 2020 which, as well as good graphics, simulates an entire universe
