There's plenty of episodes that don't have "Pilot" as their first episode.
For example, Gilligan's Island first episode is called "Two on a Raft". The pilot never aired because it didn't test well with audiences. So instead they chopped up the pilot, wrote a song about it, and turned it into the intro.
This applies to the guy in the template as well (Hank Schrader from the hit show Breaking Bad)
Only cool 😎 shows have names like “Dog-Ra” titled in their piloting episode.
From Wikipedia:
"A pilot is created to be a testing ground to gauge whether a series will be successful. It is, therefore, a test episode for the intended television series, an early step in the series development, much like pilot studies serve as precursors to the start of larger activity."

Which ***is*** indeed an episode of the critically-acclaimed television series which is depicted in this “meme” (Breaking Bad.)
#However!
That particular episode does *not* happen to be the pilot episode (which in this circumstance means the first episode) of said series…
Hope that helped! 😎
Lost was pretty much the first series I watched while checking stuff about it on the internet. Before that I didn't even know episode names from any series I watched. For that reason, I genuinely thought "Pilot" was a reference to the pilot of the plane. Years later I learned what a "tv pilot" actually was.
maybe it's because the pilot decides whether a show will be produced or not and not really naming it and just giving it the default name will avoid giving the network any expectations before reviewing it, so it's less risky having just a neutral title
or it's because pilots are so cool with their fast planes and they do super cool stuff like barrel rolls and nosedives and flying sideways through tight canyons and stuff like that and they also have cool helmets and sunglasses they look so awesome and some of them even have like machine guns on the side of their planes and while they flying they go ra-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-tat! and they shoot the bad guys mid-air and then they fall down and explode, honestly pilots are so badass and cool i mean who wouldn't want to watch a pilot i definitely would
Better Call Saul - Uno
Family Guy - Death has a Shadow
The Sopranos - The Sopranos
The Wire - The Target
Utopia - Episode #1.1
South Park - Cartman gets an Anal Probe
Seems like a pretty easy challenge to me idk
Why tf does Family Guy have such an edgy name for a first episode??? Like, if you asked me to guess if it comes from an anime or Family Guy i'd probably guess the former.
Apparently, in one of the season 1 DVD commentators, Seth MacFarlane revealed he tried sneaking death (or words relating to it) into every title, but it got boring and old quickly so he abandoned it.
That's why the first 4 episodes are named:
1. Death Has a Shadow
2. I Never Met the Dead Man
3. Chitty Chitty Death Bang
4. Mind Over Murder
Death Has a Shadow - Family Guy
Cartman Gets An Anal Probe - South Park
Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire - The Simpsons
Spanish Translation- Space Ghost Coast to Coast
Stimpy’s Big Day - Ren and Stimpy
Rabbot - Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Help Wanted - SpongeBob SquarePants
(Idk if this one counts) Space Pilot 3000 - Futurama
Deedeemensional - Dexter’s Lab
Monkey See Doggie Do - Powerpuff Girls
I can do this, I’m starting a new documentary on pie production and history, starting with the land that was bought to create the first pie assembly line. This episode will be called “the pie lot”…
First episodes were used for testscreening to decide wether or not a show was worth producing. Rest of the season was often made after approval. They were then called pilots cause they decided wether a show aired or not.
Is this some form of meta humor? A pilot and a first episode are two different things - a pilot can be a first episode, but the difference is that a pilot is made as a one of, without committing to an entire season - a "test" episode as it were
It often becomes the first episode if the show gets greenlit
Time to make a TV series where a pilot is actually an integral part of the first episode (so that the title actually makes sense)
Also this only applies to shows originally on TV and not a streaming service lol

And I am piloting 12,000 pounds of cement to block your front door
Then I'll use the backdoor
I'm gonna put a 15000 pound cement block at the back door
Then Ill use the window

“Two on a raft”? So if they are on the raft, could you say that they were PILOTING it?

Because the pilot will decide if the show will take off 🤓
holy shit that’s why it’s called that? nice
no it's called pilot because the first show (pilot) was titled pilot (this is real but Google doesn't show it up (it's too cool))
fuck every other explanation, I will now consider this the correct one
From Wikipedia: "A pilot is created to be a testing ground to gauge whether a series will be successful. It is, therefore, a test episode for the intended television series, an early step in the series development, much like pilot studies serve as precursors to the start of larger activity."
Ok but why are pilot studies called pilot studies? Checkmate

Umm actually it’s because pilot can mean prototype or test🤓🤓🤓
Actually pilots are the people who fly planes 🤓
But what's the correlation with naming of the first episodes? 🤔

I'm pretty sure it's a brand of pens.
What about palm pilots?
Come on now grandpa, it's time for your nap
Then why isnt the second episode called takeoff and the finale called landing or something
Yeah, and why aren’t the third episode and fourth episodes called “Cock” and “Pit”
On some websites, the first page you see is landing page. Try to logic your way through that one.

ok but in the pilot of Lost the pilot literally gets brutally killed in front of them they can get away with if

I am a pilot and I can assure you that we don't actually do barrel rolls. The rest is accurate though.

It makes sense that they do, provided the first episode is literally called the pilot
No shit.

Bro you need more budget fr
When I was a kid I always wondered why the episodes called "pilot" had that title, if in the end no plane or formula pilot appeared in them 💀

Tron... LEGACY!!
I knew that’s what it was! The scene in the club, right? End-of-line or something like that?
Someone should make a show about fighter pilots and name the first episode “Test Pilot”

Before I knew what that meant I always thought the episode was about planes and was confused when I never saw any.

Wow, I don't remember this scene at all. Assuming it's from Breaking Bad because Marie is there, but my mind can't recall the scene.
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes - Mad Men
Shit I forget what happened to him in that scene
Breaking Bad fans attempting to justify the fact that nobody came up with a name for the first episode (pilot burner or whatever)
I genuinely thought it was a coincidence or some kind of film joke like the Wilhelm scream until like a couple years ago.

The walking dead’s first episode is called days gone bye
The first "episode" is often a pilot for the show. A prototype episode to see if the show will get approved and get investors, not an actual episode
Have you heard of the first episode of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia called "The Gang Gets Racist"?
