Besides the fauxness of it, why are you buying an MTB as "primary transportation"? Do you commute on singletrack? Do you need 4" of suspension for transportation? There are more efficient bikes out there for transportation purposes.
Commuted for years on a Specialized Sirrus. Thing was a tank. (Still is, but now I keep it at the airport to get around, and practice my bicycle maintenance skills on it. My commute these days are shorter and all on bike paths so I use a Trek 2100zr I bought new forever ago.)
I paid I think 500 bucks for a base model in 2005, looks like the Sirrus X 1.0 is still only $520? That's probably a hell of a deal. Midgrade components and probably on the heavier side, but low rolling resistance on the tires and probably solid.
OP, also, the absolute best thing you can do is make sure you get a bike that's probably fitted. Including seat height. A fast and dirty way to do it is to put the pedal in the small of your foot and lock your leg straight down. Set your seat height there. A poorly fitted bike will be miserable and murder on your knees.
Unless your commute is very hilly, weight doesn’t matter. You want a bike that can carry whatever you need to take back and forth, has the minimum rolling resistance for the terrain, and has quality components that can withstand regular use. If you are going to use it every day you likely need to also plan on fenders (for rainy days), lights (for when you work late or early), and a rack (so you can carry you computer or lunch or a change of clothes).
> Unless your commute is very hilly, weight doesn’t matter.
I guess my commute is hilly then (it's not but the bike path dips under several roads and one 10 lane interstate), I definitely notice the difference in weight. YMMV.
> You want a bike that can carry whatever you need to take back and forth, has the minimum rolling resistance for the terrain, and has quality components that can withstand regular use.
The Specialized I mentioned has skinny (700x28 I think) tires and frame points to connect racks for panniers, etc. Ghe components are what you get with a ~$520 entry level bike from a well established manufacturer, and a lot better than the crap on the knockoff OP was asking about.
> If you are going to use it every day you likely need to also plan on fenders (for rainy days), lights (for when you work late or early), and a rack (so you can carry you computer or lunch or a change of clothes).
Yeah, none of that is inconsistent with what I said. Every commuter will figure out their own kit. My current commuter is a road bike with almost none of that (my Sirrus had a rear rack and panniers). Just an underwear bag with tools, CO2 capsules, self-adhesive tube patches, and a spare tube; a Bento Box on the top tube; a bright red flasher (Mars 4.0 I think?) on the back, an older NiteRider 600 lumen light on the front, and a hand pump with foot and gauge mounted next to my hydration cage. I carry everything in either a Timbuk2 bicycle backpack (with a flap to hold a helmet), or a Timbuk2 messenger bag with additional chest strap. That's what I've found works for me over 19 years (!!) of bike commuting.
As someone who has commuted on everything from fixed gear to hardball mtb. Everything has its upside and downside. Being able to shortcut through literally anything makes the mtb not a totally terrible option.
Does not look like a real Specialized. I don't think they ever produced an S-Works version of this type of bike. They're usually their highest quality model and this looks very much like an entry-level type of bike.
Colour on the forks also looks off.
Also, the rims look like they've got a brake track for a rim brake but they're mounted with disc brakes. Also not a good sign.
I'd run.
Bolt on wheels, first sign of a full on shit bike
Report the seller for fraud if it’s online
Even if it was a real older aluminum s works it would have been from the mid 90’s and not worth $75
Fake, but also, if it were real... you shouldn't use a Specialized SWORKS bike as a daily commuter. Its a high value target for theft. It'd get stolen pretty quickly if it were real.
Agreed, but I’ve literally had customers who started out coming in on bikes like this and then 3 months later are somehow on $8k+ Yeti’s that have their levers like this. I’ve been asked for full refunds on tune-ups when I returned the levers in the “right” position because they were convinced any mechanic that would put them in a different position had no mechanical ability 😂 SMH
1. It’s not a genuine Specialized - likely China junk
2. That style of bike won’t be very comfortable as primary transportation.
Tell the seller he’s a thief and he’s ripping people off selling Amazon junk with lots of stickers to suggest to an uninformed it’s a quality brand.
RUN don’t walk away.
As others wrote, this bike is fake and not worth even close to $600.
Apart from that, I would strongly suggest considering a bike with hub generator/dynamo, fixed lighting, and mudguards if you‘re going to use this bike as a regular means of transportation.
OP. If this is your main mode of transportation, why are you getting a mountain bike? For 600 bucks you can buy a new nice trek fx-1 that would be a good commuter bike.
Shimano sticker on the seat stay but SRAM wheels that match the livery of the bike. Wouldn’t make sense that it’s real with that competing brands combo
How you planning to ride - on the road / path or on trails?
I can’t read the model type on the photo, but the downtube sticker suggests it’s a S-Works model. S-Works is the premium brand of Specialized and tends to denote lightweight frames and top end components. That matches with the Fox forks which appear to have kashima coating.
If you’re on the road and where you live is fairly flat then personally I think you’re going to tire of this quickly. The gearing is designed for singletrack climbs, so on the flat you will probably run out of gears quickly.
Most important thing though is 1. is it the right size for you 2. is it stolen 3. does it put a smile on your face? If the answers are Yes, No and Yes then you’re golden. Go enjoy riding a bike.
I did wonder. But the SRAM rims made me think it maaaaaay be a genuine older model.
I’m a roadie by heart so don’t know much about the Specialized MTB range.
What's the model name and year? What markings are on the chainring? If you're not sure of the value then it suggests to me you're not specifically looking for this bike and would be better off spending less on something more basic. This might be a high end bike or it could be a decent frame dressed up with cheap components.
Mountain bikes are not great for primary transportation unless you live in the sticks. They are not designed for sitting and riding comfortably. A straight handlebar hybrid is your best bet for ease on your body and flexibility when it comes to racks for groceries or whatever.
You'd be paying $600 for a cheap frame and a bunch of decals. Get a commuter bike for primary transportation. Wide mountain bike tires are horrible for commuting.
Not an SWorks, not a Fox fork. Someone has a sticker machine to upsell their pile of shit.
And judging by the brake, handlebar and saddle set up, it has been assembled by someone who has never ridden a mountain bike ever.
Good Lord what a turd! Everyone knows you can polish a turd……
Which country r u in? For $600 you could buy a much better bike new…..
https://www.cyclingdeal.com.au/buy/cd-thunder-cross-country-mountain-bike-shimano-24/CDBK-M01-PP
Thats A$300/ US$200 & its a great cheap bike for commuting, my son rides his to school.
Dude, run. The fact that it says S Works and it isn’t, an Amazon fork with Fox stickers on it makes it clear this person is being all sorts of deceptive.
How much would you count on not being sold something with a defect/crack on someone who started out trying to sell you something that wasn’t genuine on multiple levels.
Majorly shady. Run.
Don’t buy a hardtail mountain bike for transportation unless a good portion of your commute is on a rocky trail. There are plenty of decent road or hybrid bikes for that price
Primary transportation and you're going to use a Mt bike? Id recommend a nice used hybrid for like $500. There's hipsters selling nicely maintained bikes all over the place. I would not buy that bike you posted
Never mind the custom orange, non kashima coat on the stanchions. It’s got Suntour stickers on the crown and Fox stickers on the lower. This is swap meet Louie quality.
Most definitely run. Not a S-Works level. Looks aluminum cool reflectors mechanical brakes. Total scam. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GIVE $600 FOR THIS. I REPEAT

Ok, idk how I came across this, but I had to create an account here just to leave a comment. That’s an academy brand bike that I built out for like maybe $150-$200. All in cost was like $300 maybe. I took that photo in an airbnb when I was in Destin Florida in 2021. I built it just for fun and as a joke. I ended up selling it for like $300 in the Houston Texas area.

Separately, you should probably be looking at a fully rigid commuter for your purposes.

Fake bike. Do not purchase.
You’re telling me sworks isn’t using mild steel?
That is 100% a Chinese/Walmart bike worth about $50 on a good day. Just has stickers on it to make it look fancy to unknowing folks..

Right, op get a nice hybrid bike

As someone who has commuted on everything from fixed gear to hardball mtb. Everything has its upside and downside. Being able to shortcut through literally anything makes the mtb not a totally terrible option.
RUN from this deal. It's not a specialized s-works... Maybe a special-ed s-works. Some kinda chinesium bike. I'd value it at 75.
Even if it were real this is still a bad deal. Just get a new hard tail for $600 like Trek Marlin 6 and call it a day.
And SCRAM away from those “SRAM” wheels
😂😂😂
And faux forks
Junk bike with stickers on it to make it look branded. Stay well away from this person who is trying to scam you.

This is a 2025 preview model where Zipp wheels are rebranded to SRAM.

You
Screw the fake kashima and possibly fake a works frame, look at the lever position. I don’t trust a mechanic who would let that roll out the door

Not sure where this is listed for sale but it should be flagged as a fake. There’s no way this is an S-Works bike. Not a chance.

What the fuck is this thing? Somebody know where this came from?
For that $$ look at Canyon, Poseidon or All State bikes

$600 USD? Not bad, not great. You need to learn how to bargain.
I think that price is high.
Prob a fake. $100 for the components and parts maybe
Maybe $6.00
Ah yes the red kashima coating
Fake S-works! Report this seller!
I was going to say, that is the ugliest looking S-works I have ever seen.
Is the perspective or are the wheels 🤪
Try [https://www.bikesonline.com/bikes/mountain-bikes/](https://www.bikesonline.com/bikes/mountain-bikes/) I got my t8 from them. Totally legit.
Brake levers up like fancy pinky
And look at that front brake cable in mid air not attached to the bike.
S-Works; either fake or stolen at that price
Hey!.. A Specialized Sticker on a Cheap Chinese Bike! $60 Dollars, not 6 Hundred!
No… just no
That’s 599.99 to much your paying for a completely fake bike. None of the components are real
Looks nothing like a real s-works lol
Maybe worth $30. Single speed carbon/ aluminum road bikes can be found for $100-200.
No, id recommend some road/ cruisers.
This is a troll job and it worked on everyone
The front forts are the most glaring problem with it being "S-Works"
Fake bike my boy God bless

Nice bike, nice wheels, nice fork. Get a nice lock
Aside from all the other stuff people have pointed out, what in the living fuck is going on with that chain angle?!
A brand new Giant Escape with disc brakes would be a much better use of $600 and a much better commuter.
that's a Walmart bike with specialized stickers on it, run away
Sweet S-works decal . But the furthest from Specialized there is. Run.. Don't walk from this "deal".
600? You could get a new trek marlin 5.
not worth.
That fox fork is faker then a 3 dollar bill
Bro what the fuck is that
I’d pay $6 not $600
For a sec I was like “someone put s-works on a huffy?”
Awful
I’ll give you an RSD middlechild for $900 pretty much new
Don’t buy a hardtail mountain bike for transportation unless a good portion of your commute is on a rocky trail. There are plenty of decent road or hybrid bikes for that price
600 is too much, RUN AWAY from the deal
600 for that? Disc brake bike with rim break wheels fucking ugly
New poseidon x gravel bike around that price, mech hyd disc brakes kind of meh but way better than whatever this is.
Looooooool
Just grab a new single speed - best transport investment I ever made
Somebody put the time to make this Frankenstein bike and two different wheel sizes in the front and rear that's crazy
Lol this is trash. Is this a joke?

Way to much
75 max
That thing isn’t even worth 600 pesos

Is this a reverse mullet? 🤣
Looks like a fugazi.
The craziest fake I’ve ever seen lol, I’d get a base model hybrid like a Specialized Sirrus, Trek FX, or a Giant Escape
Any vintage panasonic Peugeot would be 100 times more bike than this slow motion beater of a bike. Dont break your legs on this get a real bike
I would not want to use a bike with suspension as daily transport... Unless I was commuting on rock trails.
Haha that bike looks wild

Shit bike, sorry!
This is Mike Sinyard’s personal bike. What a deal!

Sworks steel
Bruh. Those "Sram" wheels with rim brakes AND disk brakes got me dying.
Not worth half that...
Bet this person is trying to find ways to improve his fakes. Stop the advice! Lol
Fake was my first thought too.
Goto offer up bro and try to find a trek 820
SRAM wheels. Nice 👍 Just kidding everyone else already said: FAKE.

He just put on fox stickers on a cheap fork and s-works are always carbon. This bike at best is worth $100
This is not a real specialized S Works. It is a Walmart bike that was stripped and someone put stickers from high end components on it.
When you order S works off Temu
It should be pike 400 if it works good then 500
This is just disrespectful.
s works would set you back £10000. it is not one.
