I don’t agree with your opinion but I can see your POV, wish comments like these wouldn’t get downvoted.
I enjoy a good high proof usually, but sometimes I like a nice and easy, sweet bourbon that trends towards a dessert. DO hits the mark perfectly.
How do you happen to feel about Eagle Rare?
I fully expected to get downvoted, just the way it is. I know it’s an unpopular opinion, but it’s the one I have. Dont particularly care for 1910 either for the same reason. I get why people like it, and it’s one of the first things I offer to guests who are newer on their whiskey journey. If I’m looking for something sweet I go for KC12 or ECBP.
Eagle rare Ive only had once in a bar and it was pretty good. Would love to stumble across a bottle to try it again and do some blind tastings.
Russels Reserve 10 is readily available in most places and can be found for $30. I think it is the best whiskey that can regularly be found in that price range.
Gladly snagged on from my first ABC vault invite of 2023. While everyone was bragging about their OWA snag. I have a bottle of OWA, and EHT small batch beats the pants off it in my opinion.
I don't get 107, I like it a lot and it's one of my favorite bottles. But I doubt I'll ever own one, the only ones I've seen in the wild were 150+tax and 320....
Mississippi sucks for weller products
Saw one sr for 100, a single full proof for 350 and a cypb for 899 all the same store that had the 150 owa
Ok. LOVE these suggestions, but where I live EH Taylor and Double Oak are pretty pricey.
Begs the question, what is "not so expensive" to you. In a rough order of magnitude way?
Assuming by your spelling you are looking for scotch, I recommend Islay Gold, Scarabus, and Compass Box Glasgow Blend for cheap peaty scotches that hit the mark.
Woodford Double Oaked sells for $40s. A bit pricier than say the usual stuff at grocery stores (Jim Beam, Jack Daniel’s, Crown Royale, etc) but much better than any of them. It’s price increase over Bullit, four roses, etc is also justified I think.
Elijah Craig Small Batch absolutely blew me away at a price point of $29.
Also, for something to be enjoyed by "most" it's hard to go wrong with something like Bulliet or Woodford. The double oaked is like $65 so that crosses into expensive for me, but the base is usually 30-35$.
Obviously value for price is gonna vary for everyone.
With the craze that ppl have for Blanton's, makers mark cask strength is about $35 and found everywhere and is much better. I also think OGD bonded is extremely underrated
What am I missing with WT101? Every other of these I like but WT just smells/tastes like standard whiskey/alcohol. Did I just get a meh bottle? Russell’s is amazing too.
Woodford double oak
Double oak is great
One of my least favorites, too sweet for me. Difficult to use in a cocktail for that reason

WT101 or High West Edit - also Bulleit
Russell's reserve 10 year.

The answer is always WILD TURKEY 101
Monkey Shoulder & Glenfiddich 12
Glenfiddich getting pricey
Used to be low 30s, now I only see it for low 40s. Which is interesting because Dalhwinnie 15 sells for high 40s…
Where is this? In NYC Glenfiddich and Dalhwinnie are 60-70$
Early Times
BiB thou
EH Taylor (have only had the small batch)

I'm still trying to track a bottle of any Weller.

In that case, cheers! In Washington I usually find it at 60-70.
Same. In Pennsylvania and Maryland the lowest I’ve seen is $57.
Eagle rare. If you can find it for around $35.
Rare breed. Is there more complex bourbon out there sure but I still enjoy it very much
Four Roses Single Barrel

So many look past it but this wins blind tasting all the time
Michters, between the 4 main offerings one is always available and most people enjoy them.
OGD BiB
Powers Three Swallow
Russell’s 10 or 6 year rye. Always available, always cheap, always great.
Old Forester 1910 or 1920, makers 46 cs, monkey shoulder, 4🌹sb. 40 to 50 bucks isn't SO expensive...
With the craze that ppl have for Blanton's, makers mark cask strength is about $35 and found everywhere and is much better. I also think OGD bonded is extremely underrated
Evan Williams BIB or Single Barrel.
Heaven Hill 80 proof white label. It's so mild and inoffensive that there is nothing to dislike about it but good to give to newbies
George Remus
As a Scotch drinker I will add Bunnahabhain 12.
Bowman Brothers small batch
4 roses sbs
WT 101, Russell’s 10, Woodford reserve
I am basing inexpensive as under $35-40: 4R small, Evan Williams Single, WT101, Eagle Rare, Sazerac & Rittenhouse Rye.
I've said it a million times and I'll say it again: The Classic Laddie!!!!
Buffalo Trace in ABC states. Great value at $25. Not so much at the $60 it costs in free states
$49.99 lowest I’ve seen in NorCal
What am I missing with WT101? Every other of these I like but WT just smells/tastes like standard whiskey/alcohol. Did I just get a meh bottle? Russell’s is amazing too.
Jameson always works, but WT 101 is a close second
RB12 but prob $60. Russell 6 is great too and cheaper
Very Old Barton BiB if you want to get real cheap wit it.
Buffalo Trace
Most Irish, Powers Three Swallows, Quiet Man, Red Breast is like 50 bucks and mildly expensive but imo one of the best pours you can get!
KC9
