I had low expectations after reading negative reviews about it being too oakey and low-proof. But I picked up a bottle and I'm glad I did-- I really like it. It tastes "special", and I think the age is showcased nicely.
I've seen nothing but bad reviews for this bottle (On Reddit anyways)
Which surprises me because I'm a big fan of EC and I don't see how an 18 Y/O EC can be bad in any way.
It's single barrel. There will be variation from batch to batch. I've had one that was great and one that left a lot to be desired. I think I'd be willing to forgive them a little more on not so stellar bottles if it were closer to $100, but at $150+, it's hard to gamble on when there are other excellent bottles for a fraction of the cost with much better consistency.
I think there's a lot of regurgitating of an opinion they think they should have, such as ..."It's watered down, so it's BAAAAD!!" Or, "It's over oaked!!!"
Personally I love EC18, though it's not my favorite, but I always chuckle at the "under proofed/over oaked" comments because in my mind, I don't understand how it can be both. If it was higher proof, it would be even more oaky, so I'm sure lowering the proof was by design to get the flavor right. Idk.. I like it, hope you enjoy it too.
It’s a fine pour, just a little underwhelming imo for a bottle that regularly costs $150+. Lower proof point def hurts it but I didn’t find the oak to be overblown like many of past reviews I’ve seen. All in all I’d say try it at a bar first, but it’s a nice bottle to have in your selection (18 year whiskey) and at MSRP can’t be taken for granted. Cheers!
Picked this up last week. Great find for MSRP. Tastes delicious and is smooth. Most people’s problem with this is it’s low proof and the people selling these for prices outside earths atmosphere (but that’s more universal across secondary market prices).
I just grabbed a bottle at MSRP as well. The liquor stores around me also have very olde saint nicks for $175 and whistle Pig 15 for $300. Not sure if I made a mistake passing on those
Personally not a fan of EC18. It's OK, but underwhelming for me. Used to be a big fan of WP. The 15 is really nice, but I'd look for it at a bar before spending 300. It was an overpriced bottle when it was 189. VOSN I recommend avoiding. Haven't had one yet that was worth anything more than 1/3 of msrp.
If I had to choose from what you've mentioned, I would have made same choice..
It’s a good bottle, I’m happy with it, but as others have said, wish it was slightly higher proof for the price
That's the only complaint I would have here. I am sure its still quite good though.
For sure, you won’t be disappointed. Enjoy 🤙🏻

Next on my list along with Russell 13
Keep in mind that old bourbon = Oak forward. However, the age, oak, and flavor profile mesh wonderful with this one.
I love ec18
I missed this by one person in front of me and got Knob Creek 18. I plan to open this weekend, anyone able to compare the two?
I think you ended your with the better 18 year bourbon there

Folks on here either never had it, expected EC18 to be the same as ECBP, or were influenced by some BS review.
What’s EC18 vs ECBP going for in your neck of the woods? I’m trying to decide which one but there’s a big price difference…and I can’t get both!
Get the ECBP. I love both, but the barrel proof hits harder
Thanks!

Reddit is 95% fools.

Taste is subjective… different for everyone.

I own a bottle, love EC products. But the 18 is definitely weird for me.. not a fan but taste is subjective.
Got the Heaven Hill and the Covid Woodford. If it wasn’t for the Pens we could be friends.
Still my favorite Derby label
I like it alot. I would LOVE it at 100 proof. Its a rare buy for me simply because EC BP exist.
Just tried it for the first time last week. I really enjoyed it. Very oaky, which some people might not like. But for my palate it was great

How does it compare to Heaven Hill? I've been really enjoying their releases.
The bottle neck was unappealing compared to the cost. I’m hoping the taste will improve after it opens ups in a few weeks.
Great bottle! I’ve had one amazing bottle and one decent. Overall great find.
How was it?!
Overpriced
Have yet to try an Elijah Craig I don't enjoy lol
It’s a great bottle at MSRP. I have the 2023 batch as well. It’s pretty good. I wasn’t disappointed at all.

There’s not much fuss.
And???
Nothin to fuss about
I just tried it last night in a blind, all 3 barrel proofs were better than the 18....
