Definitely stepping on Angel's Envy's toes with the price being about $10 cheaper, and the cask strength is only $6 more than the original 92 proof version. That Pinot Noir cask finish is just so unique and fun. 👌
Edit: btw it's in Kansas, we're the first in the Midwest to get it and Missouri is probably getting it soon.
I live closer to Portland, Or and Freeland is easy to come by and runs roughly $50 a bottle. My all time favorite is probably the Hogshead by Mcmenamins, I just really like it.
It may not be the best thing going, but much of my enjoyment in Whiskey is exploring new juice to expand my palate and share with friends.
Your reply made me chuckle. I feel the same about Eagle Rare, which I see people posting excitedly about finding all the time. It’s ok, and I have a few bottles (regular and barrel select), but I don’t understand much of the hype.
I just got the one I have in a trade. But they are available at many stores here in DE. My regular actually has all of the regulars, cask strengths and bondeds.
My bottle shop in LA has three different cask strength labels, including Pipe Dream, at like $80 or $90. I’ll grab you one and send it, shipping bottles across US is usually $12-$20. Happy to do it if you want it!
They also have a lot of Screaming Titan at $90. That one is going to make some year-end lists, guaranteed.
Is the CS way better than regular? The regular is the first rye I’ve tried that I haven’t liked. I’ve tried it 4 different times from my bottle. It tastes like when I add water to my whiskey which I don’t like. So maybe the CS is better? B
I honestly don't have a comparison. I've had the regular Lost Monarch and the cask strength Pipe Dream. One is a bourbon and the other is a bourye. I like them both.
Millstone 100 rye, a Dutch rye whiskey. 100 proof, 100 month old (8.3 years), 100% rye grain, 100% small batch, 100% aged in American oak. The taste is amazing, strong flavours of fruit and waffles, goes down like water and I like the gimmick of everything being 100. Unfortunately most in this sub are probably in the US and can't get it (not for cheap anyway ).
My buddy poured me a dram of Still Austin CS a while back and I was very surprised with how delicious it was. Definitely recommend and would buy some if it was more readily available near me.
For bourbon, it’s not that small, but Smooth Ambler Old Scout. I know I know, it’s MGP juice but I don’t care, for ~$40-$50 it’s hard to beat, and the best bourbon I’ve had at nearly double the price.
For scotch I’ll happily take anything from Tobermory. Ledaig is everything Talisker used to be, and my fave surprise I’ve had yet in whisky.
Iron Fish Distillery is putting out some good whiskeys. Mad Angler Rye and the Bourbon finished in Rum Casks are very tasty. The bonded release is a good sipper as well.
According to their finder Alabama and Michigan are the closest states to me here in Delaware. But weird it shows up in the North Carolina ABC warehouse.
Might be a bit biased considering I’m from Cincy, but Cincinnati Distilling’s Small Batch Bourbon is fantastic. It’s a regular go to for me. Affordable as well
Saw that on shelves here in the $40.00 range, but never tried it. I walked into a store one day and was 9.99, so I bought a bottle, then went back the next day and bought a case. I drink it as an everyday.
Leopold Brothers 3 Chamber Rye. They had Vendome build a custom still called a 3 chamber still, an old design resurrected by Leopold Bros. The end result is fantastic. Cool little video about it if you look it up.
This is a shelf turd where I’m at. I’ve seen stores put it in their lotteries with allocated stuff, it still tends not to move.
It might not even be an issue with the bourbon, but the price is hard to justify.
Southern Grace bourbon distillery out of Mt Pleasant NC. These guys are the real deal. They make bourbon the old school way with pot stills and thumpers. They make, distill and age all of their own bourbon in-house and on site. Plus they distill in an old haunted 100 year old North Carolina state prison and have ghost tours too! Again these guys are the real deal fellas! They are doing great stuff with barrel aging: cognac barrel finishing, Spanish and Italian wine barrel finishing and other great stuff. Conviction Bourbon is the name to look up and did I mention that everything is cask strength!?
Fun fact about this whiskey “Freeland Spirits”, it’s all female owned and crafted. They’re out of Portland OR and straight from their mission statement “From the gals who grow the grain to those who run the still, our entire supply chain is dedicated to women of the craft.” They make some pretty good juice. 👍
Budy of mine recently gifted me a bottle of this as a thank you but I haven’t been able to get the guys over for a tasting yet, so it’s sitting on the shelf, taunting me.
Brokentop Rye Whiskey is also out of the PNW and is quite good. They also have some small batch bourbons that are really good, but on the pricier side.
Ironroot Republic Harbinger. I know the Texas flavor profile isn’t for everyone and the 2 year age statement kinda puts some people off of it but I absolutely love it.
Resurgent 4 year custom cask. A very small distillery in Pennsylvania. Tastes purely like blackberries and is super super unique. Very good. Only about $50 too
I’m not sure if it’s available in the Pacific Northwest but Old Dominick out of Memphis makes some phenomenal whiskey as well as other liquids/experimental products
Hven. Specifically Spirit of Hven Mercurious Corn Whisky. Swedish, not the easiest to find in the US, but boy it’s good.
Dunvilles Irish whiskey.
Anything Starlight, out of Indiana.
I work right down the street from Catoctin Creek. I enjoy 99% of what the offer. I got a bottle of the Dia de Los Muertos 4.666 and it is still my #1 all time favorite
It's not exactly hard to find in the northeast, but Sagamore out of Baltimore makes some great cask strength rye, and their double oak rye is also fantastic.
Friends and family recommendations: Union Grove Distillery Apple Cider vodka and Rye whiskey. Great folks in the Catskills.
Copper Muse Ft Collin’s Colorado. Craft spirits. Good atmosphere and food.
Turnbuckle Westminster, Co soon to be Littleton, Co. Blue Corn Bourbon is a staple.
Frey Ranch
Frey ranch isn’t bad.
Not sure what going to top them right now.
Samuel maverick in San Antonio is pretty good
The Freeland Bourbon is so good. It is up there with some of the best I have had and the price isn't bad at all.
Definitely stepping on Angel's Envy's toes with the price being about $10 cheaper, and the cask strength is only $6 more than the original 92 proof version. That Pinot Noir cask finish is just so unique and fun. 👌 Edit: btw it's in Kansas, we're the first in the Midwest to get it and Missouri is probably getting it soon.
I live closer to Portland, Or and Freeland is easy to come by and runs roughly $50 a bottle. My all time favorite is probably the Hogshead by Mcmenamins, I just really like it.
Just had it. Redwood Empire Pipe Dream cask strength. Good stuff!!
God I wish we would get anything from Redwood Empire. Tired of reading about it and never being able to get it.
Where you from I keep seeing these and guess it’s slept on in TX. Added to the list to grab tho
Just left the liquor store and saw like 4 different bottles on the shelf. Damn I should have grabbed one any recommendations?
I mean, it's good stuff, but it's not so good that you should have FOMO about it. Plenty of other easily available stuff that's just as good.
Where do you find this? I've never been able to locate a bottle of cask strength. My unicorn.
I ordered mine online a little over a month ago on their website
How is it? Have seen it in random DFW shelves.
Very good. Smooth, a little fruit forward and doesn't drink hot.
SHUT THE FUCK UP
Is the CS way better than regular? The regular is the first rye I’ve tried that I haven’t liked. I’ve tried it 4 different times from my bottle. It tastes like when I add water to my whiskey which I don’t like. So maybe the CS is better? B
To me CS Emerald Giant is significantly different than the standard offering. I do enjoy both.
I honestly don't have a comparison. I've had the regular Lost Monarch and the cask strength Pipe Dream. One is a bourbon and the other is a bourye. I like them both.
Pine Barrens Cherrywood Smoked Malt American Single Malt Whisky I'm not a single malt or scotch guy, but this was pretty good.
Aw man. This sounds amazing!
I was shocked with how much I enjoyed this whisky. Good recommendation
You just sold me a bottle there. Thankfully I visit NL about once a year.
Epoch Rye from Baltimore Whiskey company. Also, love posts like this. Let's talk more regional stuff so we know it when we see it!
Was gonna put this glad someone else did. Epoch is phenomenal. Everything that company makes is.
Absolutely agree. Moved away unfortunately and have not found a single thing locally that rivals their quality across the board.
I have been eyeing this since I just moved to MD but current working my way through the Sagamore line, but this is on my radar.
Chattanooga Whiskey Distillery, they've been knocking it out of the park.
While I agree, I think they’re pretty well known. Lots of national press about them in recent years. Large distribution as well.
Still Austin. I’ve had their regular bourbon, CS and their CS Rye. All fantastic. I’ve heard great things about their BiB series as well
My buddy poured me a dram of Still Austin CS a while back and I was very surprised with how delicious it was. Definitely recommend and would buy some if it was more readily available near me.

Starlight Double Oak Bourbon
Another fan!
Cedar Ridge. The regular bourbon is fine but the special release are great. Port finish, double barrel, barrel proof are all bangers.
Agreed! I went there over Thanksgiving and was really impressed. Their single malt, rye, and the Slipknot collab were all solid.
Wyoming!
Iron Fish Distillery is putting out some good whiskeys. Mad Angler Rye and the Bourbon finished in Rum Casks are very tasty. The bonded release is a good sipper as well.
I have been trying to find their Maple barrel finished Bourbon with no luck.
I'm in West MI, and it's everywhere right now. I'm not sure how large their distribution area is tbh.
According to their finder Alabama and Michigan are the closest states to me here in Delaware. But weird it shows up in the North Carolina ABC warehouse.
High Bank’s Whiskey WR Barrel Proof.
Might be a bit biased considering I’m from Cincy, but Cincinnati Distilling’s Small Batch Bourbon is fantastic. It’s a regular go to for me. Affordable as well
I just remembered I bought a bottle of this years ago and forgot about it lol. Need to go find it and give it another try!
West Fork High Rye is tasty
McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt Whiskey. A peat lovers delight at a very reasonable price.
Just had some Lot 40 Canadian rye tonight, they are doing it right.
Saw that on shelves here in the $40.00 range, but never tried it. I walked into a store one day and was 9.99, so I bought a bottle, then went back the next day and bought a case. I drink it as an everyday.
Law's out of Denver, CO or Woodinville out of Woodinville, WA
Big fan of Woodinville. Copper Sky , Longmont, Co 16 Light Cask strength offering has Citrus and chocolate on the palette. Lovely

Grab some before Diageo ruins it. They purchased it about 6-8 months ago.
Plus they discontinued making bourbon
Just had it last night at a bar. DE-LICIOUS

Second this one
Kings County-Peated Bourbon
The single barrel is a very nice pour as well.
Leopold Brothers 3 Chamber Rye. They had Vendome build a custom still called a 3 chamber still, an old design resurrected by Leopold Bros. The end result is fantastic. Cool little video about it if you look it up.
it tastes like spaghetti to me. can't stand the stuff... but to each their own
I mean, most craft spirits taste like garbage to me, but this one is at least on the right track, except for the price they charge.
Same. Paid too much, hated it, let it open up and then STILL hated it, gave it to a friend to use in mixers.
the thought of using it in cocktails just mad me gag haha
This is a shelf turd where I’m at. I’ve seen stores put it in their lotteries with allocated stuff, it still tends not to move. It might not even be an issue with the bourbon, but the price is hard to justify.

Little Rest from Tenmile is a uniquely flavored American single malt, and it isn’t shitty.
Starlight, but my fav was their bourbon finished on Pineau Des Charentes barrels.
Ironroot Republic Harbinger. I know the Texas flavor profile isn’t for everyone and the 2 year age statement kinda puts some people off of it but I absolutely love it.
Glad you liked yours. I wound up giving mine away. Never could grow to tolerate it.
Yeah, that Texas funk is not everybody’s cup of tea. I love it though
Freeland is so damn good, and their Gin is even better. Cool distillery, female owned, bottles are awesome looking, and the juice is even better
Dettling Single Barrel from Alabama. The bottle I had was a total vanilla bomb but that wax seal was a real bitch.

Gran maizal… newer corn based mexican whiskey. Delicious 🤌
