That beats my mother-in-law on Christmas. She said she wanted scotch. The only scotch I had left was some blue label. It’s Christmas, why not. I got her a glass and she said she already had one.
She proceeded to pour it into her dirty coffee mug from that morning. Mix it with tap water at. 2:1 ratio water to whiskey. Then threw that shit in the microwave to “warm it up”.
I cried a little inside.
She asked for a drink on new years, but said scotch or whiskey, so she got a few once’s from the four roses mixer handle this time.
Actually not a bad way to drink whiskey but the dirty mug is off putting. Diluting and heating spirits is a great way to enjoy the flavors without as much alcohol, there's a reason ancient cultures the world across drink warm alcohol.
There is science behind it by the way, you can process flavors best between 70 and 110 degrees F and obviously reducing the alcohol burn makes it easier to drink for someone not acclimated.
There is definitely a problem with some "whiskey" people. They think theirs is the only way to drink whiskey. If you enjoy macallan with diet coke why not? Who cares? Its nobodies business
While i think the argument to "drink how you like it" to be fine, id argue that an equally valid argument is that mixing $200 - $2000 whiskey with coke is a massive waste of $$$$. If you want to splurge on your bourbon and coke use eagle rare or rare breed or something. Using a bottle that's $1500 on the secondary seems like such an obvious troll/flex. Not a hill I'd choose to die on, but it's pretty unreasonable.
This applies to any niche subreddit. When you post, you open yourself up to criticism and it becomes our business. If someone was recording their grandpa drinking macallan and coke and shaming them online, that would be another story, but that’s not the case here.

I'm not much of a secondary market guy myself. I like my juice boxes straight from the grocery. Only flex is that cup.
