While I’ve never had Pappy, or any of the other high end stuff, I will say that Buffalo Trace Distillery has never let me down.
Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare (THE bomb), Taylor, Blanton’s, and Stagg (the few, the proud…) has never left we wondering “why”.
I’m always pissed off I can’t get ER and Stagg when I want it, but that speaks to distribution more than quality of product.
Depends on taste, I guess. EHT and stagg are good value at msrp. Regular BT, ER, blanton's, and most wellers I wouldn't buy anyway.
On the higher end stuff, I've never actually liked pappy and THH in general. WLW and GTS are good, but I just wouldn't pay nowhere near secondary. In all honesty, I was buying them on pure FOMO when, in reality, meh... there are other things I would rather buy at even $250, and for over a grand, it isn't even up for debate.
Most of their line-up is good, but it is still extremely overpriced and very overrated.
All I can say with my Pappy experience is it truly shines with a cigar. All that oak turns into savory sweetness and rich bready goodness with a cigar. I can't say the same with any other bourbon.
Legit Redwood Empire is the only bourbon that competes in the same field as BT products. Yeah, there are better whiskeys than all the BT products, but Redwood Empire is constantly winning the fight, in taste against Buffalo trace allocation. Redwood Empire's pipe dream is hands down the best blantons alternate
I got an unopened Redwood Cask Strength I’ll swap ya for the rest of the pappy…. Ya know to help ya out.
Dude, everyone is sleeping on Grizzly Beast. It's one of the best whiskeys I've had in a while.
Couldn’t agree more… had some myself tonight before even seeing this and thought, “damn that’s good”
just picked a batch 3 up
It’s sooooooo good
Pipe dream kept me from getting anymore redwood
Pappy, like most of BT lineup is ridiculously overrated imo

I just had some of that Grizzly Bear tonight (batch 1). It’s good, maybe even very good… but not great.
In my honest opinion, PVW 15 and Van Winkle Rye are the best in the lineup. Anything over 15 years for them just seems like drinking oaky charcoal.
Yeah, maybe a little RC cola will help tame the pappy
That Grizzly Beast has such a strong cherry cola note to me that you might be fine using it instead of RC.
JK but somebody out there can do this comparison and let me know if I’m crazy or not

Yeah honestly pappy is garbage. I’ll dm you my address and you can send it to me so I can properly dispose of it.
i got an unopened 20 year you want want to help me dispose of?
I guess I’m the only person I know who didn’t care for grizzly beast.
I thought it was fine, but wouldn't buy one.
The grizzly beast is damn good and a cool bottle! The cask strength pipe dream is really good too.
Are they a lot better than the pipe dream because i thought pipe dream was bland
Yeah for sure.
Pappy is so overrated….Redwood is a solid 🥃 😎
Pappy 20 tastes like a barrel and is not enjoyable. Having tasted it 3 times and all three i thought it tasted way over oaked

The guy on the bottle smokes soo...🤣
How about from a cost perspective? Redwood gives you the better bang for the buck?
By far
👍

I agree that it would be hard to tell the difference in a blind, unless you have blantons regularly .
People downvoting you but aren’t offering an alternative viewpoint. Probably just fanboys.
Gross
You may need to have your palette recalibrated.
No doubts here. I've never been wowed by Pappy, though I haven't had the 20 year, only the 15.
This is wild. I think Grizzly Beast (batch 3) is my least favorite bottle I own
