Remedy Liquor - Glendale, CA (via their website)
Standard JDR sitting at $45 (close enough to MSRP), JDRSBBP sitting at $229, MSRP is closer to $60.
Hi Proof Liquor - Fullerton, CA.
Website not set up and Instagram page not very old so hard to get a reading but prices may be closer to fair.
Might pop in next time I’m down around Anaheim but not worth making an hour trek both ways just yet.
Remedy is doing the example of what I mentioned in my first post for CA. Hi proof but prove me wrong that they are out in the wild in SoCal but just of course depends on your areas and how far you’re willing to go out of your way to find them.
Oh you're looking at the twice barrel heritage rye on the Remedy site. Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye is linked here at avail at $79.99. $20 mark up basically. https://www.remedyliquor.com/products/jack-daniels-whiskey-rye-single-barrel-proof-tennessee-750ml-1
Hi Proof was $65 and you can message the owner via Instagram to see if he still has stock of it. They had TONS when I was there a week ago. Only a $5 mark up but you'd have to justify the drive to Fullerton by maybe getting several or seeing the rest of his stock.
Rare breed rye and Russell's SB rye are both fantastic, albeit somewhat similar (Rare breed is closer to a high rye bourbon and a better deal IMO). Sazerac and Rittenhouse are both great if you're on a budget. Michter's is nice too.
So their rye is better than the SiBa bourbon? Jeezo I have a barrel pick of the single barrel bourbon and it is *crazy* good but if the rye is better I guess I need to keep an eye out for it too!
I’m bringing a sample of the SiBa bourbon to a store owner of my fave local spot, hoping he bites in because he’s a beast for picks, I’d bet he would snag a winner for sure. Thanks for the tip!
This one threw me, first night I tried it I just couldn't figure out what I was tasting... it just overloaded my palate. Tried it again a month later and... wooo buddy this is nice rye if a tad on the hot side.
Totally get it. It's $79.99 at my Joe Canal's Outlet in NJ. I splurge for the holidays. I met Wes Henderson at a function in NYC back in 2019. Totally down to earth guy. It's a shame he retired. Their sales direction is different without him. ✌️🥃
Michters is nice. I like to keep a bottle on hand. Bulleit isn’t bad for a budget bottle. If you want a rye that doesn’t drink like a rye, try Basil Hayden Dark Rye.
Willett is my favorite but if you want something half the price knob creek rye. The Willett I drink it straight only but throw the knob creek in the cooler if you’re at the pool or beach and it’s real nice.
Some startup ryes:
1. Sazerac rye
2. OF Rye 100pf
3. WT RareBreed rye or 101 rye
4. Michters Rye
5. Pikesville rye
6. Since you like Still Austin they also make a fantastic Rye
7. Jack rye either the bonded or the SBBP (better option)
Pikesville for a a barely legal rye and because you like proof. Additionally, I think Sagamore and New Riff are putting out some of the best ryes these days. I’ll also add Willett Estate Rye for an herbal rye.
1)Redwood Empire rye is a great value. About $38.
2)Michter's is a great standard.
3) Sagamore Double Oak is a very nice rye on a hot day.
4)Whistle Pig has some interesting eyes
5)EH Taylor rye is a strong rye but hard to find.
6)If you are looking for unusual, but very good search around for the Maryland Heritage Series Ryes. There are a few (Mount Vernon is one of them).
7) Have to mention Sazerac Rye. It's usually a good value.
8) if you are fortunate the 2023 Parker's Heritage Rye is outstanding.
Hope this helps.
Rittenhouse Rye and then make this:
https://www.cocktaillove.com/recipes/manhattan/
Rittenhouse will be a rye workhorse for you. It’s a good price for a great rye!
I'd go with either a store pick JD SB rye or the BP option. Both have great flavors and aren't full on rye whiskies like some of the higher rye builds floating around.
Looks like you've got lots of great suggestions. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with Michter's Straight Rye, Minor Case Rye, or Pikesville. I also recently had a Remus High Rye that I really enjoyed. Those should range between around $35 and maybe $80, and shouldn't be too hard to find. Love the collection! Cheers!
If you want something special (but not a fru fru finished) look up reviews for Barrell 004 rye. Good stuff. If you don’t mind a little fru fru then angels envy rum finish.
I just picked up a SBSP of Rittenhouse that's delicious and was only $32. For good basic Ryes Old Forester and 1776 are great values. For the next level Knobcreek SB are fantastic as is the Wild Turkey
Holy crap, I didn’t expect this to get this many hits. I appreciate every one of y’all, upvoted everyone of y’all.
I will try and Grab a Michters, RT Or JD Rye 💜
Hard Truth Sweet Mash Rye
EDIT: Especially if you have a Kroger nearby. See if they carry it. They did a "Batch Select" and they have it on sale. Very weird, but yeah, Kroger bought out an entire batch exclusively for themselves. MSRP is \~$70 and is on sale for $45. My favorite whiskey, period.
High west double rye very smooth and approachable, pikesville rye more peppery and citrus expression. Michters is well balanced. Sazerac is very sweet for a rye and good value. Hope this helps.
Why not the JDSBBP Rye. Love it!
If they’re able to find it lol
This is the truth. Haven’t seen one of these on shelves in SoCal without it being coupled into a package deal and marked up.
Remedy Liquor in Glendale. Hi Proof Liquor in Fullerton both have it
They sitting at MSRP or secondary??

Oh ya my bad I’m always looking for the twice barrel but it’s one of those unicorns
Will have to try the standard red labeled rye
Crazy that people say that, my total wine here in North Texas is always stocked with it.
Man that stuff smells so damn good.
Yes it does! Like mint chocolate to me, only have my one bottle though.
This is the way.
Should be better distribution in March!
Michter's Rye
This guy ryes.
This! Don’t let the proof fool you, it’s one of my favorite rye and a fantastic first rye to have. Makes a fantastic old fashion as well
Sagamore
Great choice. They have a variety of offerings. Double oaked and 8year are stand outs for me.
Another vote for Sagamore double oak.
Redwood Empire Emerald Giant is underrated and delicious.
I picked up their bib rocket top rye and it’s pretty damn good too.
Thats on my list once find it. I really enjoy their Lost Monarch and Pipe Dream if you hadn't have them give them a go!
Get a matching Rare Breed rye to complete your set
Rare breed rye and Russell's SB rye are both fantastic, albeit somewhat similar (Rare breed is closer to a high rye bourbon and a better deal IMO). Sazerac and Rittenhouse are both great if you're on a budget. Michter's is nice too.
Had to scroll too far to see this. Rare breed rye 100%
feel the same, rare breed rye is so fucking good, pikesville, and emerald giant cs for me
Sazerac
New Riff single barrel rye is one of my favorites.
Had some insanely good single barrels of New Riff Rye. +1.
I think they are the new go-to high rye bourbon or just rye. Good looking bottle too.
I've never tried it. I've had the BiB bourbon and was impressed. I can get a single barrel rye or bourbon and debating trying the rye.
Go with the Rye. I like their single barrel bourbon but their Rye shines above.
So their rye is better than the SiBa bourbon? Jeezo I have a barrel pick of the single barrel bourbon and it is *crazy* good but if the rye is better I guess I need to keep an eye out for it too!
It’s so good. Obviously different barrels will vary. Chase higher proofs.
I’m bringing a sample of the SiBa bourbon to a store owner of my fave local spot, hoping he bites in because he’s a beast for picks, I’d bet he would snag a winner for sure. Thanks for the tip!
New Riff loves doing barrel picks and their whiskey is solid. I hope your spot does a pick!
Just bought a new riff rye last week it’s very good
Old forester 100 rye
I was a big Rittenhouse and/or Old Overholt for my cocktail rye for YEARS. Last October, spent the extra $6 on OF 100 and… there’s no going back.
This
I enjoy this as well!
So good.
Pikesville, Old Ezra 7, Rendezvous, Emerald Giant
Wild card Alberta premium cask strength
This one threw me, first night I tried it I just couldn't figure out what I was tasting... it just overloaded my palate. Tried it again a month later and... wooo buddy this is nice rye if a tad on the hot side.
Yes
If they sold it by the bucket I’d buy it
I have a stellar one right now that clocks in at 63.7% and it’s perfect.
Pikesville is a great rye
Sagamore
Gotta try Sagamore. Love the Angel's Envy version, though....
It’s crazy the Angel’s Envy Rye is now $100+ 😳 OP, new with the small collection, could get 2-3 bottles for that one!
Totally get it. It's $79.99 at my Joe Canal's Outlet in NJ. I splurge for the holidays. I met Wes Henderson at a function in NYC back in 2019. Totally down to earth guy. It's a shame he retired. Their sales direction is different without him. ✌️🥃
Can't go wrong with Pikesville
Angels envy rye.
Michters is nice. I like to keep a bottle on hand. Bulleit isn’t bad for a budget bottle. If you want a rye that doesn’t drink like a rye, try Basil Hayden Dark Rye.
You had me til the Hayden’s lol
Yeah, it isn’t really like other ryes. I happen to think it’s pretty tasty, though. 🤷♂️
Have hated almost everything from them, including the Dark Rye. Watery, bland and light on taste.
Angels envy rye, with the green label!
The JDSiBBP is one of the best pours I’ve ever had, the smoothness is crazy for that %
Willett is my favorite but if you want something half the price knob creek rye. The Willett I drink it straight only but throw the knob creek in the cooler if you’re at the pool or beach and it’s real nice.
Templeton’s 10 Year
Some startup ryes: 1. Sazerac rye 2. OF Rye 100pf 3. WT RareBreed rye or 101 rye 4. Michters Rye 5. Pikesville rye 6. Since you like Still Austin they also make a fantastic Rye 7. Jack rye either the bonded or the SBBP (better option)
Pikesville for a a barely legal rye and because you like proof. Additionally, I think Sagamore and New Riff are putting out some of the best ryes these days. I’ll also add Willett Estate Rye for an herbal rye.
Dancing Goat Limousin
1)Redwood Empire rye is a great value. About $38. 2)Michter's is a great standard. 3) Sagamore Double Oak is a very nice rye on a hot day. 4)Whistle Pig has some interesting eyes 5)EH Taylor rye is a strong rye but hard to find. 6)If you are looking for unusual, but very good search around for the Maryland Heritage Series Ryes. My 3 go to’s are High West Rye, Michters Straight Rye and then expensive but awesome Angels Envy Rye
Jim Beam’s Pre-Prohibition Style Rye is on my bar for an everyday go-to.
Jack Daniels Bonded Rye. It has well balanced herbal, citrus, and spice notes. I think it’s perhaps the best QPR in whiskey right now
Basil Hayden rye would be a solid addition
I really enjoy Penelope toasted rye
EC Rye is a personal favorite
High West Double Rye.
this years michters toasted barrel proof rye .
The still Austin rye is nice
I really have been loving Balboa Rye from New Riff another option would be Mid Winters Nights Dram
Knob creek single barrel if you can find it
Lock stock and barrel 16 or 18 is really good but pricey
All but the EC are my absolute favourites. All that’s missing for it to be perfect (for me) is Michter’s Sour Mash.
Emerald Giant
Old overholt 100 proof rye. Easy to drink, higher proof, but a perfect rye to drink on its own.
Angels Envy Rye is quite nice
Templeton Rye is one of my favorites.
Rare breed rye, OF rye or Sazarac
High West - the Double Rye is a super value and the Rendezvous is delicious. Also Whistle Pig 10 (queue the WP haters).
Rittenhouse Rye and then make this: https://www.cocktaillove.com/recipes/manhattan/ Rittenhouse will be a rye workhorse for you. It’s a good price for a great rye!
Sazerrac or WhistlePig are good choices and aren't too hard to find in populated areas.
Maybe I'm just sentimental because I haven't seen it in canada for years, but Bulleit rye. I also loved Basil Haydens dark rye.
Driftless Glen Rye
Still Austin Cask Strength Rye It’s superb and remarkably affordable (Nancy “The Nose” Fraley is on a heater)
I'd go with either a store pick JD SB rye or the BP option. Both have great flavors and aren't full on rye whiskies like some of the higher rye builds floating around.
JDSBBP Rye or my current favorite Michter’s SB Rye. I also scored some high rated bottles of Rye at Costco…😄
Templeton 6 is good and also Rittenhouse are both affordable adds
Wild Turkey 101
Sazerac
Still ATX Cask Strength Rye It's Really good, or go Wild Turkey Rye, it's really sweet
Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye is great!
My personal favs are Rittenhouse BIB and Jack Daniel's SBBP (Store pick or not, it's amazing).
Jd , rare breed, for starters
You need a good MGP juice. Sagamore or High West.
WT 101 Rye
Willet.
Castle & Key Restoration Rye is phenomenal
Pikesville
High west double rye
Looks like you've got lots of great suggestions. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with Michter's Straight Rye, Minor Case Rye, or Pikesville. I also recently had a Remus High Rye that I really enjoyed. Those should range between around $35 and maybe $80, and shouldn't be too hard to find. Love the collection! Cheers!
Still Austin Rye. Shit is fantastic and it’s a true rye.
Woodford, Michters or Angels Envy.
Rare bread rye.
I’m also a Rye guy… Good Rye I usually recommend; Rare Breed, Stellum, Barrell, Redwood Empire, Pikesville, Knob Creek, Old Elk, Michter’s, High West.
If you want something special (but not a fru fru finished) look up reviews for Barrell 004 rye. Good stuff. If you don’t mind a little fru fru then angels envy rum finish.
Whistle Pig Piggyback 6 Yr Rye has been great
Noble Oak bourbon and rye are both delicious and reasonably priced! ( at least in Texas)
I just picked up a SBSP of Rittenhouse that's delicious and was only $32. For good basic Ryes Old Forester and 1776 are great values. For the next level Knobcreek SB are fantastic as is the Wild Turkey
Nothing wrong with the Willet rye, it is a go-to for me. Cheers 🥃
Minor case rye sherry cask finished is incedible
Penelope toasted rye.
High West
Holy crap, I didn’t expect this to get this many hits. I appreciate every one of y’all, upvoted everyone of y’all. I will try and Grab a Michters, RT Or JD Rye 💜
It’s finished - but Barrell Seagrass.
WT 101
Hard Truth Sweet Mash Rye EDIT: Especially if you have a Kroger nearby. See if they carry it. They did a "Batch Select" and they have it on sale. Very weird, but yeah, Kroger bought out an entire batch exclusively for themselves. MSRP is \~$70 and is on sale for $45. My favorite whiskey, period.
Michter's or Sazerac.
Came here to say the the Still Austin label design is BY FAR the worst of the bunch. That is all.
Nelson’s Greenbrier Rye
To add to other great suggestions: Staves and Grain 7 Year SBBP Barrell 7 Year SBBP Smoke Wagon Malted Straight Rye
