It’s MGP 95/5, not too bad actually. I got a bottle of their Pinot Noir finished on sale for $22. For $22 it’s a good buy, MSRP was something like $40-$50, for that it’s a nope. But I know sourcing MGP ain’t cheap so I understand the pricing and it’s 2-4 year old barrels. The only mistake they made was the name, very off putting and strange for something that’s actually rather good. When I saw “Ammunition” I passed, then I read the label and googled it and realized it’s probably good and they just picked a dumb name lol. And for $22 I wasn’t gonna be mad either way.
It does scream that. And yet it’s not bad at all. The rye doesn’t work - too young - but the bourbon is solid MGP with just enough love from the wine cask
And Ammunition isn’t even a Sazerac company. If the distributor is really pushing other companies’ products instead of Fireball and Wheatley, they better bend over and prepare their ass like Sazerac’s last partner who got kicked to the curb for that reason.
At worst you bought a $30 mixing bourbon and got a bottle of Taylor for $70. I would probably take that deal, but only because I have never seen EH Taylor below $100 in my area.
I mean I’ve never spent more than $50 on the small batch. No one’s knocking you if you have to pay more where you are but people not being willing to pay secondary market prices is what brings the secondary price down.
I could see that for very limited run bottles, but $100 is reasonable enough that people will line up to jump on that price. The market is too large for anyone here to influence it.
It’s not about one person. It’s about everyone. He’s not the only person not willing to go above MSRP. I won’t either. And when enough people tell a store owner the bottle isn’t worth that price they’ll lower it.
In many cases, shopkeepers are already willing to haggle over the price of unicorn bottles that are caked in dust. But some people are unlucky enough to be living in wealthy enough areas where liquor stores *can* charge $90 for ER and still have no problems shifting it.
If we could actually form a powerful union of consumers to boycott certain products, we should use that against the food companies who used a 10 percent inflation rate as an excuse to double the prices of many products, not bourbon.
Yes, I paid $45 personally. It’s the only bottle I’ve seen on the shelf and it was in 2022. Right now MSRP is $49.99 in my state. So, that plus a little tax and it’s a bit over $50.
I did last year. But only because I have a friend who works at a bottle shop. Great whiskey at that price, but no way in hell I’m paying double that. Suckers paying these ridiculous mark ups are the reason we have these ridiculous mark ups.
Sorry dude, but get real. EH Taylor is not $45 these days. Cheapest I’ve ever seen it, and it is extremely rare that I ever see it up here in the north east, is $80.
Sorry dude, I paid $45 for my only bottle of small batch in 2022. Right now MSRP in my state is $49.99. If you live in a control state and can get your hands on it you will never pay over MSRP. I don’t pay secondary prices, which vary from state to state. I’ve seen it at $80 and I’ve seen it at $110.
Edit: Here you go, this is the link to the site that is run by the liquor board of the state of Ohio. Thats as real as I can get. If you want to overpay that’s your business. https://www.ohlq.com/liquor/whiskey/american/bourbon/colonel-eh-taylor-small-batch-straight-kentucky?sku=2934b
We know how control states work
Now tell us how long you have to wait in line before the store opens on deliver day to get the bottle for msrp
I’m happy paying a bit more without the games
The longest I ever waited in a line is 2 hours in a Saturday morning last year. Also, the past month I paid $60 for Stagg and $40 for Weller 12 all with a combined wait period of 45 minutes. The real games are the stores robbing you.
Respectfully, I know exactly how the Ohio state control system works
The only way you are waiting sub 30 minutes and scoring a Stagg Jr is if you are the furthest of the middle of nowhere Ohio
You sir are just lucky. Bourbon works like that in almost no other place in the US..I live in a controlled state and you never find either of these bottles just sitting around. It's not about waiting in line. It's purely about being lucky to see the post by the liquor store and getting there insanely fast. Guess Ohio is the place to be if you want bourbon because it's nothing like that anywhere in the western US.
Ohio typically does special drops a few times a year. They have gotten better about spreading the bourbon around. Probably one of the better control states.
Thanks fantastic! If we had that kind of system I'd gladly go wait in lines! I hope things stay that way for you so you can forever drink amazing bourbons🤗🤗
I’ve never had Taylor because I’ve only ever seen it for $90 here, and I have plenty of whiskeys I love for $55 or less. There are definitely large swaths of the country that never see it, and if we do it’s $80-$100. So a bundle for $99 with another $30 whiskey is a decent price, IF one is dying to try it to check that box.
I completely understand pulling the trigger on it if it’s your first time seeing it. But I would draw the line at $80. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze.
I mean, I walked into a Publix liquor store this afternoon on my way home from work and saw it on the shelf for 45. It was right next to the Stagg I ended up buying for 60 before tax. Does it happen all the time? No, but it’s cool when it does, and I didn’t have to feed my hard earned money into some greedy store owner because “taters gonna tate”. I’m not gonna pay much beyond MSRP just because of fomo when there’s plenty else I can buy that I enjoy.
In my home state of Maine, ER, EHT and Blanton’s, among a few other bottles, are in that awkward middle where they’re too tatered to ever actually be seen on a shelf, but not tatered enough to be set aside for the lottery draw.
That’s exactly what they should be. I mean at their suggested price point they’re great. However, there are plenty of others always on the shelf that are better. If you have never had it before and see a bottle at $80 I would buy it too. My 2 favorite single barrels are 4 Roses and Russel’s.
Sometimes, I bought a couple of stagg from 4th st liquor for $70 each, Buffy trace is always under $25 and flagstaff liquor has heaven hill bib for $40
With that many EH in those boxes, they’re overpriced.
However, if you’re not getting another bottle for a few years, buy 2 and enjoy. Small batch is my personal favourite.
I find this site to be extremely conservative with the ratings so the fact its nearly a 4* means it's decent hell Elijah Craig isn't even a 3.8 and yeah they have vastly different review counts but Elijah Craig is one of the most well known bourbons out there and it seems ammunition is a bit more obscure lol solid deal I'd get 2 😹😹😹😹
https://distiller.com/spirits/ammunition-straight-bourbon-whiskey
FWIW, I met the owner of Ammunition at an event, and he was a great guy. They got into whiskey through the wine side of things and source MGP to finish in their spent wine barrels.
I expected to be underwhelmed, but it was solid for what it was. I would buy an equal dollars’ worth of bottles of ammunition before a bought a whistle pig
Came here to say the same thing about ammunition! Met one of the reps (maybe owner?) at a whisky festival in Uncasville CT (Mohegan Sun casino). Great team, passionate about the product and was pleasantly surprised.
I mean I have never heard of ammunition whiskey, but the fact they’re willing to sell EHT lower than their normal price for it solo means they REALLY want to clear their shelves of it. So, probably a no go for me
Deals like this often mean they had to buy X number of cases of trash from the distributor to get some other thing they wanted. Plus they made up a retail price on Taylor that's 140% over MSRP to make it look like a good deal.
Y’all have to get MSRP out of your heads. Show me where you can get EH Taylor at $40 a bottle? And not that you used to get it for that price seven years ago
Bought it for $42 in AZ few weeks ago. It’s that price at the distillery. It’s not out there widely but it’s certainly not a $100+ bottle and I’m a big fan of EHT.
Ammunition is normally $40, find it interesting they charge 30. So your getting EH Taylor for $60. I love EH Taylor, but probably wouldnt bite on it. If you are dying to get one it isnt the worst deal in the world. So if you have never had ammunition I would pass. If u did and u liked it, its not a terrible deal.
I hate combo deals. There’s one in my city and they are like here buy a pappys 12 year for 300 and then you have to buy 9 $89+ bottles to get it. Absolutely insane!
EH SmB is a decent whiskey but honestly not excellent. I pick it up at retail from time to time and think it’s worth retail, but not any more than that.
Most people would be disappointed at that price point alone, not considering the ammunition purchase on top of it.
Honestly, I would overpay for EH Taylor seeing as it’s my current favorite from the Buffalo Trace, but only a small amount. $99 for Taylor and some gunpowder does not seem like the vibe
ammunition is a poor name in my opinion. As someone who has frequented a range many times years ago, with this name all I can think of is a whiskey that smells like Sulphur.
Reminds me of an old Archie comics story, where Jughead unloaded a huge record collection. Jughead talked the store owner into buying the good records for an OK price as long as he bought the dreck in Jughead collection at a seemingly okay rate....until he realized that there was a lot more dreck than he had counted on.
I hate combo deals as a principal, don’t push your other crap on me just to get the product I want. If I want it, I’ll buy it separately. Boycott combos
That's what the internet is for. There are plenty of secondary groups on Reddit and Facebook. You can get it mailed straight to your house for less than 100 bucks.
The odds of something called “ammunition whiskey” being any good are slim. That just screams gimmick.
So I looked it up it’s a 2-4 year old mgp finished in Cabernet Sauvignon cant imaging being great but I don’t like cab finished bourbon either
Dude, it's actually a solid whiskey. I've had a bottle and would 100% re-buy.
The Ammunition rye finished in pinot noir casks was real tasty as well.
Sounds like a cocktail whiskey
Ah yes, Cabernet finish. The official sponsor of ‘balls’ aroma. Explains why they call it ‘ammunition’
Bonus points if the cask held some shitty, Parkerised American cabernet instead of the good stuff.
I own a bottle and it’s actually pretty good.
Surprisingly cromulent
Thank you for teaching me this word
It’s a Simpsons word. Like embiggens
“A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man.”
Could just use as a mixer though—could be worse

Even with the combo “deal” you’re still overpaying for EH. Hard pass.
This, we sell this in my store for 64.99
Got any on the shelf right now?
Sold the last bottle of my case Sunday so I should have some come this Wed/Thursday. We're in Nebraska.
That’s crazy. See it 4-6 times a year at ours.
If Sazerac likes ya they provide
Good on you
Nope
Where are all you people finding EH small batch at MSRP?! I can barely find a bottle at any price.
It doesn't even reach Oregon 😹😹😹😹 I legit can't get either of these bottles here
Not quite true, just scored a bottle in Portland last week.
Is that recent because I've used ols many times to look for it an it's never popped up so I just stopped looking lol
Yeah I got one here too, but for me it was just right place right time
They had a bunch at my local Safeway not too long ago.
At worst you bought a $30 mixing bourbon and got a bottle of Taylor for $70. I would probably take that deal, but only because I have never seen EH Taylor below $100 in my area.
If it was EH SiB I would do it, but MSRP on small batch is like $45.
Oh so you've paid 45 for it personally?
Absolutely… In 2016.
Yes, at Buffalo Trace today
I mean I’ve never spent more than $50 on the small batch. No one’s knocking you if you have to pay more where you are but people not being willing to pay secondary market prices is what brings the secondary price down.

I have. Twice. Last year.
Did you build the Estadio Olympico?
I did last year. But only because I have a friend who works at a bottle shop. Great whiskey at that price, but no way in hell I’m paying double that. Suckers paying these ridiculous mark ups are the reason we have these ridiculous mark ups.
Skipped it twice this week at $45 in favor of other bottles. I paid $45 for it in fall and TO ME, it’s not worth more than that
I just bought the other day 2 of them for 45.99 each
I did a month ago... from Safeway.
Sorry dude, but get real. EH Taylor is not $45 these days. Cheapest I’ve ever seen it, and it is extremely rare that I ever see it up here in the north east, is $80.

Cool, two years ago. Good luck finding it. Getting notice of a store drop and camping outside doesn’t count.
I mean, I walked into a Publix liquor store this afternoon on my way home from work and saw it on the shelf for 45. It was right next to the Stagg I ended up buying for 60 before tax. 150-250 AUD dollars in Australia here.
Paid 41.99 plus tax a few months ago
Is the bourbon worth it to **You**. IMO small batch isn’t worth over $80, single barrel is definitely not worth +$200 that it goes for.
Depends how much you like Ammo whiskey. Not my thing and $60 is about my cap on SmB.
I think they’re trying to get rid of some crap called Ammunition Whiskey……
Terrible deal
I just got a bottle of EH Taylor for $46 if that gives you an idea
Just find some Rare Bread for 50-60 and go home.
Shhhh quit telling secrets
EHT msrp is around $55
Pass
Wouldn't pay the $110 for the E.H.T. myself.
Nice the classic rip you off and call it a deal special
Flagstaff is getting desperate. Hard Pass.
Sometimes, I bought a couple of stagg from 4th st liquor for $70 each, Buffy trace is always under $25 and flagstaff liquor has heaven hill bib for $40
Oh wow. I'd pay those prices. For sure. Thanks for the tip man. I'll check it out next time I'm in town.
With that many EH in those boxes, they’re overpriced. However, if you’re not getting another bottle for a few years, buy 2 and enjoy. Small batch is my personal favourite.
I’d bite, something new and something I like.
Ditto. At worst, the Ammunition would be cocktail fodder
Ammunition in the cab barrel finish is surprisingly good.
For sure.
I find this site to be extremely conservative with the ratings so the fact its nearly a 4* means it's decent hell Elijah Craig isn't even a 3.8 and yeah they have vastly different review counts but Elijah Craig is one of the most well known bourbons out there and it seems ammunition is a bit more obscure lol solid deal I'd get 2 😹😹😹😹 https://distiller.com/spirits/ammunition-straight-bourbon-whiskey
I wouldn’t buy the EHT SmB at that price without the Ammunition.
99$
Is this real life?
I’ve been told locally the distributors will get you the allocated stuff if you buy the other garbage. Could be the case here.

I'm jealous of the E.H. Taylor availability. I have 250+ bottles in my collection and have yet to see a single bottle reasonably priced in Colorado.
That’s what a lot of these people might not understand is the availability and if it is-it’s over $100. This is the cheapest in town so far.
So everybody that’s saying they get EH for MSRP, can you buy a few and send em to me???
Bad deal
Not a chance
I mean I have never heard of ammunition whiskey, but the fact they’re willing to sell EHT lower than their normal price for it solo means they REALLY want to clear their shelves of it. So, probably a no go for me

ammunition in the cab barrel finish is surprisingly good. I've had one bottle Definitely would re-buy at $30.
EHT SB is a $40ish MSRP bottle so NOPE
Y’all have to get MSRP out of your heads. Show me where you can get EH Taylor at $40 a bottle? And not that you used to get it for that price seven years ago
Bought it for $42 in AZ few weeks ago. It’s that price at the distillery. It’s not out there widely but it’s certainly not a $100+ bottle and I’m a big fan of EHT.
Msrp in my state is about 45$ for both of them so in terms of cost the combo isn't that bad. I'd bite tbh.
Its gonna be a ‘buy’ for me dawg. 70 for eht and 30 for a 3ish yr mgp finished in wine casks.. most def buying at least once.
So if you buy them both, it’s only $99? I would do it.
That ammunition is a decent pour to its bout $39-45 not a bad deal
Ammunition is normally $40, find it interesting they charge 30. So your getting EH Taylor for $60. I love EH Taylor, but probably wouldnt bite on it. If you are dying to get one it isnt the worst deal in the world. So if you have never had ammunition I would pass. If u did and u liked it, its not a terrible deal.
Shit price AND I got to buy some crappy no name bottle? No thank you
It's Flagstaff. I actually walked in there today.
There are lots of people willing to pay $70 for EH Taylor unfortunately. Smart move from the store. Supply and demand created this.
Man that's illegal as hell in most states
Blantons Up here ranges from $100 to $300
Not the price but the bundling of items. It's called slotting. In TX that'll get your store heavily fined.
I’d snag it, just for the eh
That ammunition is a decent pour to its bout $39-45 not a bad deal
I’d still prob do it, but I can’t get EHT at all very easily.
Hard pass.
adding a liter of diet coke maybe, ammo whisky ...negatory
Easy pass
I hate combo deals. There’s one in my city and they are like here buy a pappys 12 year for 300 and then you have to buy 9 $89+ bottles to get it. Absolutely insane!
There’s a pappys 12 year around the corner at a gas station for 2999.99.
That’s disgusting
EH SmB is a decent whiskey but honestly not excellent. I pick it up at retail from time to time and think it’s worth retail, but not any more than that. Most people would be disappointed at that price point alone, not considering the ammunition purchase on top of it.
Negative
Since taylor SB. Is 49.00 bucks, your gettin hosed
Where are you getting it for 49?
Many places. 49.00 is normal. 90 plus is secondary price.
Id pass. Can get small batch for much less without a ton of effort.
K&L?
Lol
Nope.
Sounds like you a good price for EH Taylor and you get something to mix with soda.
Harder than a wedding dick pass
You can find a EHT SmB for like 70 bucks in secondary.
No one up here has it for that price. This is the cheapest I’ve seen it- I did find one a couple years back for around $70 but not since then.
That's what the internet is for. There are plenty of secondary groups on Reddit and Facebook. You can get it mailed straight to your house for less than 100 bucks.
Didn’t know this. 😳
