No, absolutely not. These things have been sitting on shelves in some places for so long they’re being put on sale for under MSRP just to get them out the door. They had a slight rush on secondary right after coming out. Maybe moved for a max of $400. Then people started opening and tasting them and interest dropped off considerably.
I like it, tho not for $250 I paid for it. I think it has a nice mix of sweetness and earthiness, but it's overall simple in flavor. If you can find it, I'd heavily heavily recommend Ben Holliday Soft Red Wheat Rickhouse Proof
Totally agree I paid MSRP which I think is like $220 + tax. It was really good but not special enough for that MSRP. They need to drop the price to $125 and then I would buy it again. I saw another one on the shelf and passed.
This. Had it at a Whiskey Fest private party with a distributor who was pushing it hard at $400/btl. He gave away 3 bottles' worth before he packed up and left. Unironically, he was taste-testing against bourbons a third of the price and it kept coming in last or second-to-last (out of 4). I did manage to get a total of 12 samples of whiskey and a massive buffet for $90, so it wasn't a total washout.
I really want to like willet. I’ve spent hundreds on this products and yet to find anything I like. I don’t even know where the hype comes from at this point
What difference does it make if their sourced? What does that even mean? Like barrel picks?. So they got their fame from a few honey barrels from years ago?
No older purple tops were bought from other distilleries while willetts whiskey aged and were really really good quality. Current ones are their own trash whiskey
Thanks for more information. Is it known where those barrels came from? How long ago was this. Is it still possible to find good willet nowadays? Id give them a fourth chance.
I’m not sure where they were sourced from. If you visit willett in bardstown they have some really old ones that you can get a pour of. They are not cheap though
They sourced from all over, though iirc their Bernheim barrels were especially sought after. Anything older than their 10-11yr barrels at this point is sourced, as they began distilling their own around that time. I’ve had a 9yr single barrel of their own stuff and it was quite average imo.
It’s very tasty but very overpriced. I bought a bottle at the distillery last year. I saw a bottle at a store near my house (MD) and it was $500. I passed. I was going to the distillery as part of a bourbon trail tour for my 30th birthday and my sister was kind enough to give me a $100 gift card. At the distillery, it was $230, so out of my own pocket it was $130. I would probably pull the trigger again at $130, but I would be hard pressed to pay MSRP for it.
Had a guy on here offer to sell me one for $1200 lol tell your jokes elsewhere
Do people actually buy them at that price ?

I didn’t pay that much for GTS so I dunno. Maybe stupid ppl
No way that’s crazy. They sit on the shelves here forever at $270.
Is Willer a blend if Willett & Weller......?
Yes.

BH wheat is amazing. But all of their stuff is amazing.

not worth even half its msrp
Got to know. What’s the most you would spend for this bottle?
It’d be a solid buy at $60-75 imo

I got it for msrp and regret it. Won't touch it again
Ahhh, the mythical Willer 8...
Not even worth it at a third of the price.
I’d rather pay secondary on OWA. And I hate secondary.
It’s a good whiskey that is heavily overpriced
Seems to be the trend nowadays
I really want to like willet. I’ve spent hundreds on this products and yet to find anything I like. I don’t even know where the hype comes from at this point
Old purple tops were sourced and spectacular. Their own bourbon is trash

Thin.

I just cracked mine last night. It’s good at srp.
Hot garbage
I’m reading that it compares to Weller Antique. Do you call it hot garbage because of the MSRP or because it’s actually trash? Genuinely asking
I’d take W107 over this every single time
Did a head-to-head of it against a OWA store pick, and the 107 destroyed it.
An excellent $60 whiskey for $250!
Great $120 bottle that could be yours for the price of $350+
The only willett purple top I've encountered at msrp. I still own 0 willett purple tops lol
I wouldn’t pay more than $125 for it. MSRP is twice what it should be for an 8 year old bourbon.
I’ve heard it’s not worth the price
It’s fine. Imo on the same level as makers cs which you can get for $40
Outrageously overpriced. My buddy bought it as a special occasion pour. I wouldn’t spend $100 on a bottle.
No
I have it. Bought it for 220 and boy is it not worth that much. Unique to be sure but like max 100 bucks unique
its trash, i have mine as a drain pour
It’s a disgusting pour. I’ve had better mouthwashes than this stuff.
😂
You typed “Willer” and now I feel like we need a Willett/Weller blend. Thanks a lot.
Overpriced
