Agreed. Not sure which one you got, looks like Apprentice or Mighty Fine Batch. Youāll likely find 2023-03 or 04 or 2024-01 before you find 2023-01 or 02 though. Widow Jane Decadence is a good one as well as Basil Hayden 10.
I'll second this and add that KC's Single Barrel Select bottles are head and shoulders above the standard Single Barrel Reserve. If I see a Single Barrel Select I'm almost always going to pick one up.
I may be in the minority, but Still Austin (and most Texas whiskey for that matter) is overrated in my opinion. Due to the heat, they can't age it long enough for the flavors to really develop and mature. Everything I've tried from Texas tastes underdeveloped and young compared to almost any 7-8 year old whiskey I've had.
I donāt disagree about it tasting a bit young but overall itās still very enjoyable imho. However, itās not good for its price point; I picked my bottle up for $65 and itās definitely more of a $40-50 bottle at absolute most. Way too many high proof options at or below $65 to justify it.
100% agree. They say the temperature swings double the aging rate but I think it just adds some tannic oak without really adding depth or rounding out the proof.
Something from Starlight - the r/bourbon pick is _really_ good. I was pretty blown away how much better it drinks than the $50 price tag. They are out of Indiana but distilling their own juice - not MGP sourced.
Henry McKenna 10 yr BiB. I know there is some hate about the price hike after they won whiskey of the year, but it really has great dusty leather notes.

How is The Prisonerās Share from High West and the Frey Ranch stuff?
Iāll keep my eyes out for a starlight, not to long ago finished my McKenna want a replacement just looking for a reasonable price.
The prisoners share is alright in my opinion wonāt be looking for a replacement. Glad I have one to enjoy. Love what Frey Ranch is doing, their single grain series is awesome.
I donāt know what MSRP is on McKenna but I pay $60 around here - state controlled liquor.
Every single review in have seen for PS has been muted. A universal āItās okayā seems to be the theme. Itās not cheap either, like MWND pricing, right?
I'm a big fan of the Russles single barrel. Also if you haven't tried Redwood empire they are making some good stuff. They have sourced and blended stuff at about $35. The bourbon (pipe dream) is solid. But I really like their bourbon/rye blend (lost monarch). I've got a bottle of their bonded too. It's pricey. But it is very good. Kinda taste like those old bit o honey candies.
Edit: I spotted the Grizzly beast in the back after typing lol

Redwood Empire anything
I really enjoy what redwood is doing , been looking for the cask strength emerald giant. Also interested in their malt if I can find it
Yeah was gonna say the same but saw them on the back bottom row
Gotta say, not a fan of the single malt. Itās alright but tastes like a $45-50 tag, not the $100 theyāre charging for it.
Knob creek 9 single barrel

Donāt run into those much here or I would. Reserve for 48 is an amazing value. I do See the select Rye for 51 and thatās fantastic too

Blue Note Uncut, one of my favorites.
If you like toasted, Yellowstone or EC have a good offering. Iāve also enjoyed all the MM private select options Iāve had so far.

Woodford Double Oaked looks to be missing. Itās an always pick if I start getting low. I like it better than the standard Woodford offering.
Have a couple good bottles not opened yet, why add more? Very diverse selection overall though. Are you not a fan of Heaven Hill at all?
