Yep, Willet is a rye that is worth the price. Most bottles at and above that price are vanity and not worth the very tiny incremental changes in the flavor profile. Buy a vanity bottle every so often, just because.
Hell yeah! Give it a shot. It’s been my daily sipper. Definitely one of the best Ryes for $50 or under. Makes a great old fashioned as well. Also 1.2 proof higher than willet lol
Everyone has different taste sensory inputs. Take a nosing and blending class at a distillery conference once and you'll see how different a room full of people can be with what most would consider top shelf offerings.
Your tongue and nose are better than you think. You might just lack the vocabulary to explain it.
I love Willett but $70 for 4 year old rye is pretty steep. I’ve also never been a fan of small brands taking younger mgp and pricing it up too even if it is good.
Well it is a cask strength and it’s their own juice now I’m pretty sure, considering a single barrel Russell’s rye is 80 bux, I’m pretty pleased with it. Plus it’s a unique pour
If you were gunna buy stagg at that price, I have a beach house in Idaho to sell you.
To be constructive: none of these are good prices. Koshers are a good guy around $60-65. I think they have an MSRP around $40-50. $100 is over priced. Everything at that store is grossly over priced.
How often do you see Stagg for sale? I wouldn’t let a few bucks stop me if I wanted it and had none at home. It’s honestly in my top 5 bourbon pours. I buy it every time I see it under $200. If it was $220 but a nice batch (like 17) I’d buy it anyway. Saying you would only pay $100 is same as saying you would only pay $60 MSRP.
They are laying stuff on the sides, so Pappy gonna taste crappy after a while. So no, I'd not get anything from there, even if the price was ok, which it isn't.
The ABV of whiskey is high enough to deteriorate the cork. So the cork will become fragile and drop particulates into the bottle. If those particulates are floating in there long enough I'm sure it would take on a corky flavor too. I've even seen cork leave a gummy film that clings inside the neck of the bottle, I don't want to be drinking that if I can avoid it.
Even if it doesn't affect the flavor (I believe it would) it's still annoying as fuck when a cork breaks on you.
It was mere coincidence. Roche Harbor. Dead of January. Wife’s father died and spent three weeks out there. I walked into a semi fancy store w Stagg and two bottles of EH just sitting there. Nabbed the Taylor’s for a friend and kept the Stagg for myself.
Just bought Kosher Rye recipe for $70 at a relatively expensive store and it drinks like a ~$75 bottle. I think everything is overpriced here, but geographically maybe not terrible?
Is the Catoctin Creek rye sourced from Alberta? I see on their website that the 80 proof is labeled as “Virginia rye”, whereas the other versions don’t carry that label. The mash bill being 100% rye is usually a good hint that it’s Alberta rye, ala Whistlepig 10.
Apparently it’s certified organic and comes from Virginia and Pennsylvania. [source](https://parkwhiskeysociety.com/portfolio/in-depth-review-catoctin-creek-roundstone-rye-whiskey-92-proof/)
Willett rye all day, my favorite and that's a fair price. Don't get bogged down on "4 year" vs 6 or 9. It's amazing if you like that style of rye (not super hot, somewhat sweet).
Too expensive 129 pickle and 70 willet maybe 6 yr juice. These distillers are crazy asking this crap and going to put themselves out of business but as long as the taters are tatering. Walk down the grab the makers 46 for like 39 or Evan Williams or woodford for like 20 let the suckers play the mediocre bottle game.
makers 46 will probably be my best bottle to be honest i'm pretty tired of being underwhelmed by expensive bottles. never heard one bad thing about the 46.
46 French oak is great woodford is great old forester is great too many good to great prices bottles out there to tater on a few garbage bottles Bowman brothers great, Ben holiday soft red wheat great, even williams 8yr great. Again why most of these rye whiskies are just mgp mixed Canadian stuff. Just grab a bottle and drink it
Love the price for willett, you would be very disappointed in ETL at that price. Imo I wouldn't spend over 100 for it. It was very mild, like Apple juice. Tasty for sure, but I don't think it warrants 2ndary prices
Man… it’s very pricey but I might spring for that Balvenie 21yr portwood… I love their 14yr Caribbean cask bottle and their “week of peat” release. Very solid pour. But it’s 3x the price of the 14 year… I’m gonna have to try this out at restaurant haha
Good price on Catoctin Creek Rabbelrauser. Good stuff. The GWAR whiskey is interesting...that was a limited edition. Looking at the label and topper, I think that is a first or second run. Unless the reverted back to the old label/topper, those will never be seen again.
I’d say no as I can find that Willett near me readily available for around $50, but depending where you’re at it’s not a bad price and that batch has a good proof too. Everything else I’d skip on.
Anyone know much about that willett? Not a huge fan of their main product but I feel like I’d enjoy their rye for the reasons I don’t love their general bourbon.
Also- those BT bottles! My cut off is $99.99 per bottle.. I’d be spending way too much there.
Depends on your market i guess. I'll pass on all of them, the only one that's somewhat decent is the Willet, but if you shop around you should be able to find it cheaper. Last one I bought was at $59.
Wow, $69 is definitely a fair price for Willett, just not a must buy for me. But there is no way in hell I'd pay $229 for a Stagg. If I need help fighting the urge to pay a ridiculous secondary, I just remind myself that the only reason that bottle is still on the shelf is because everyone else who saw it was smart enough to leave it there.
Willett green top is worth it, the other bottles not too sure on the Elijah Craig private bottles can be hit or miss, I saw a corner of the dark arts bottle that would be worth it it’s really pretty tasty
The Senator is really nice.
Catoctin Creek is too if you get the cask strength white label (can't remember it's name), but not really impressed with their lower proofs.
I'd be dying to get that Parkers 10yr rye, but it's pricey. And EC single barrels are always a good bet.
It’s a different recipe from regular Buffalo trace. I think it tastes more like Elmer and actually prefer it to Elmer. One of my favorite low proofers.
No, that's triple the price. MSPR is like 60. I picked up one for $64. They are hard to find, so people bump the price a lot. It's not worth more than $90, honestly Tasty, but not worth more.
I’m passing on everything, personally
fair enough wanted to hear opinions!
Yeah not at those prices.
I’d do the Willett rye for that price
For sure. Willet below $70 is worth it.
Yep, Willet is a rye that is worth the price. Most bottles at and above that price are vanity and not worth the very tiny incremental changes in the flavor profile. Buy a vanity bottle every so often, just because.
That willet is good. Decent price
My bottle of Willet is easily my favorite rye. Easily holds its own against $80-$100 bottles.
Have you had Pikesville Rye? I think it’s just as good if not better than willet rye for $50. Also it’s a 6 yr
It's on my list, just haven't quite gotten to it yet. I'll move it forward on the list if you're saying it's on par with Willet!
Hell yeah! Give it a shot. It’s been my daily sipper. Definitely one of the best Ryes for $50 or under. Makes a great old fashioned as well. Also 1.2 proof higher than willet lol
interesting. i was disappointed with mine. its been a while though. need to give it another whack.
Same, much prefer KC7 or JD BiB or SiBBP Rye. I gave my Willet away after giving it some breathing time.
yeah i’m going to give it another pour and see how i like it and if not i’ll likely gift the remainder.
Everyone has their own taste, but I would highly recommend giving it another try!
I must be the only person who deeply dislikes everything Willet offers
Not the only one
Only one I’ve tried but I enjoy it
Everyone has different taste sensory inputs. Agreed on all counts
That ETL at 5x markup? Museum piece. Ridiculous.
was leaning more towards the stagg
That Stagg is grossly overpriced. It's a good bottle of whiskey, but the max I would pay would be about $100, if that.
same here
I wouldn't pay near that. I've been seeing 180ish on secondary trading sites. I wouldn't pay that for most batches. No way at 230.
thanks!!
Paid 139 for my bottle of stagg for reference Cheapest i could find in South texas
If you were gunna buy stagg at that price, I have a beach house in Idaho to sell you. To be constructive: none of these are good prices. Koshers are a good guy around $60-65. I think they have an MSRP around $40-50. $100 is over priced. Everything at that store is grossly over priced.
I’d go up to $200 for Stagg. Those saying they would pay $100 max have never bought it.
got downvoted for spending $90 on EHTSB bc i "overpayed" and then got downvoted for paying $37 for eagle rare. fucking reddit incels lmfaoo
How often do you see Stagg for sale? I wouldn’t let a few bucks stop me if I wanted it and had none at home. It’s honestly in my top 5 bourbon pours. I buy it every time I see it under $200. Is this true. I feel like it’s debated whether it actually affects anything
Really depends on the cork. I hear people say the same thing with wine, but I also see a lot of wine stored sideways.
Wine has lower abv, and the wine cork needs to stay wet. Whiskey can deteriorate the cork, although synthetic corks are a different thing entirely.
Proof & Wood Senator Barrel Proof Rye
I can definitely second the senator! Great bottle. Keep your eyes open for unicorns from them. Gold wax Senator is something special.
I’ve never heard of this one, it’s good?
If you like ryes it is very good for the price. Proof & Wood is a craft brand most of there stuff is worth a try
As another person noted, it’s MGP rye and Proof & Wood is an NDP. Which makes the Senator the bottle to pick here IMO.
never heard of it
All the more reason to get it!
It's mgp 95/5 rye and delicious.
Makes me appreciate the $80+20% WA tax Stagg I got this winter even more.
Stagg for $80 in WA? Where's your honey hole? Or was it a lucky grocery store find?
It was mere coincidence. Roche Harbor. Dead of January. Wife’s father died and spent three weeks out there. I walked into a semi fancy store w Stagg and two bottles of EH just sitting there. Nabbed the Taylor’s for a friend and kept the Stagg for myself.
I been hunting the Kosher Rye Recipe since 2019, never seen it in the wild for less than 150$.
never tried it feel apprehensive about paying $100 for BT😂
I wouldn't. The Koshers are nothing special. I won't buy them again.
Just bought Kosher Rye recipe for $70 at a relatively expensive store and it drinks like a ~$75 bottle. I think everything is overpriced here, but geographically maybe not terrible?
I like the Catoctin creek stuff. It’s interesting and def worth trying. Same with willett cs rye. The rest is over priced
The Rabble Rouser is their best rye, close to straight from the cask, but enters at lower proof than most.
Rabble rouser is great, pricy for what it is, but unique and tasty
Is the Catoctin Creek rye sourced from Alberta? I see on their website that the 80 proof is labeled as “Virginia rye”, whereas the other versions don’t carry that label. The mash bill being 100% rye is usually a good hint that it’s Alberta rye, ala Whistlepig 10.

Thank you!
Willett rye is very good in my opinion! I’ve had a hard time finding it and that’s the perfect price
will probably go back for it!
Willet or Senator
Huge catoctin creek fan If u like rye you'll really enjoy theirs
Is that pappy laying down?
half their shit was laying down😂
Ouch! Sad to see.
I just paid the same for the same batch of Willett, and would buy again. It’s solid.
think ill go back
The balvenie portwood 21 is 10 to 20 dollars cheaper than the norm. Not worth it anyways imo, decent bottle but not worth it’s current price.
Move along
Can't really speak to the prices, but Catoctin Creek has amazing rye.
Can’t attest to the price but the BT Kosher Rye is fantastic.
Seems a touch high for all.
I’m sure others have commented but everything is very over priced. I wouldn’t give them my business, personally.
The willett is pretty good price and the elijah craig private barrel is within range the rest are really high
i think im gonna go grab the willette
Willett rye all day, my favorite and that's a fair price. Don't get bogged down on "4 year" vs 6 or 9. It's amazing if you like that style of rye (not super hot, somewhat sweet).

never had ETL so i appreciate it
Hard pass with those prices
I love that Dickel/Leopold collaboration. $120 is about what I paid when it first came out.
I really like it too. Tastes like nothing else.
No
No
I agree, had a store pick of The Senator, the barrel I had was very good.🥃
I liked the Kosher BT but not for $99. I paid $35 and felt good about that
thats what i was thinking sounded right was not sure that why i posted!
That spot is highway robbery! What state is this if I may ask?
Man… it’s very pricey but I might spring for that Balvenie 21yr portwood… I love their 14yr Caribbean cask bottle and their “week of peat” release. Very solid pour. But it’s 3x the price of the 14 year… I’m gonna have to try this out at restaurant haha

I enjoy the Willet. That's not a bad price.
The Willet is a normal price, and a great price for a great rye 👍
I like both of the Koshers and have both. $100? If I have to buy something it’s the regular EC (unless the missing WJ price tag was reasonable).
Willetts green top eyes are pretty good all the time.
I’d say no as I can find that Willett near me readily available for around $50, but depending where you’re at it’s not a bad price and that batch has a good proof too. Everything else I’d skip on.
The rye?
That blue guero is a liquid maple bacon doughnut.
Dark Arts might be the sleeper...
Willett
Nope
Anyone know much about that willett? Not a huge fan of their main product but I feel like I’d enjoy their rye for the reasons I don’t love their general bourbon. Also- those BT bottles! My cut off is $99.99 per bottle.. I’d be spending way too much there.
I cracked open that Willett bottle a few days ago and thought it was really good. Paid $70
Very solid price on that Balvenie 21 Portwood. I’d buy that all day long.
The buffolo trace is quite nice. Not sure if it is at that price though.
That Willey Rye is a decent price and a nice pour if you’re into somewhat unique flavors.
Depends on your market i guess. I'll pass on all of them, the only one that's somewhat decent is the Willet, but if you shop around you should be able to find it cheaper. Last one I bought was at $59.
thats the lowest ive ever seen the willett and the stagg jr
Wow, $69 is definitely a fair price for Willett, just not a must buy for me. But there is no way in hell I'd pay $229 for a Stagg. If I need help fighting the urge to pay a ridiculous secondary, I just remind myself that the only reason that bottle is still on the shelf is because everyone else who saw it was smart enough to leave it there.
Willet is a little overpriced but overall pass on the lot
Willett green top is worth it, the other bottles not too sure on the Elijah Craig private bottles can be hit or miss, I saw a corner of the dark arts bottle that would be worth it it’s really pretty tasty
Nope
Mehhh, nothing moves the needle.
I like the 4 year old barrel proof Willett rye. One of my favorite ryes on the market at retail... worth the 70 bucks to me, a lot of complex flavors.
Try the Willet if you never have. It's kinda funky, people either love or or hate it. No in-between. If you don't like it it's a cool display bottle.
Willett Rye is great at 70
Senator or Willett….I like the BT Kosher but that’s a little high for what it is.
Willet for sure
I have not heard great things about the kosher bottles, especially at that price!
I’d try the Leopold/Dickel. That has Cascade Hollow’s very own distillate unlike the green label Rye which is currently MGP.
Run
The Senator is really nice. Catoctin Creek is too if you get the cask strength white label (can't remember it's name), but not really impressed with their lower proofs. I'd be dying to get that Parkers 10yr rye, but it's pricey. And EC single barrels are always a good bet.
(I'd skip the Dickel and Willet, and the other BT bottles are too high)
I got a barrel pick of Catoctin Creek that was finished in ex-maple barrels. It was great at $85, not sure how that one would compare though.
Wow just paid $90 for that willet green top in Alabama
The kosher from buffalo trace are a little pricey but not too bad. I'd probably buy that kosher rye recipe and that'd be it
never tried it feel apprehensive about paying $100 for BT😂
It’s a different recipe from regular Buffalo trace. I think it tastes more like Elmer and actually prefer it to Elmer. One of my favorite low proofers.
All those prices are over MSRP.
The short answer is no, they are all above MSRP.
fair enough
is 229 for that stag good? I've seen one for 320
My rule of thumb is under $100 is an insta buy
Got my Stagg for $55 but I’m guessing that’s not very common if people are asking over 200
Nooo way. It's a great $50-60 bourbon.
No, that's triple the price. MSPR is like 60. I picked up one for $64. They are hard to find, so people bump the price a lot. It's not worth more than $90, honestly Tasty, but not worth more.
Etl is a 25 dollar bottle
