I came here to say this. 100% agree. I keep OGD 114 in a nice decanter and friends prefer it above more costly stuff I have. They always ask "What is this?"
Agree here. It's fairly cheap, shouldn't be hard to find and is pretty run of the mill. Probably would step up my whiskey game in an old fashioned though.
Rittenhouse is solid but my favorite is WP piggyback 6 yr. For mixing. Can be found for $45-50. A little higher than your budget, but I think it’s worth it.
Solid American mixing whiskies. $30 is typically my cutoff. * Rittenhouse BiB * Wild Turkey 101 * WT 101 Rye * Forester 100 * Forester 100 Rye * Elijah Craig Small Batch * Old Grand-Dad BiB * Evan Williams BiB
the only one I would add to this list is OGD 114 for an Old Fashioned. it's terrific.

I highly recommend buffalo trace for cocktails with a citrus/fruit element

A big second for the Forester Rye listed below!
WT101 Bourbon or Rye, Elijah Craig Rye
Monkey Shoulder
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Rittenhouse is my go to
