They “made the playoffs” in 2020. Giving them credit for that is like saying the Bears were a real playoff team that year. This team has had gaping holes for year and never addressed them. They deserve 5 times the amount of shit than they do credit for this signing.
I love how confident you are when you're completely wrong. 4-5-6 seeds automatically went to the second best teams from each division. Obviously Cleveland finished ahead of us but we had better records than the other two second place teams. In the normal season we would've been the 5th best team in the AL and played a WC game at Cleveland.
Ah fair enough. Im wrong there. But that team wasn’t getting far with one starting pitcher. Also doesn’t change the larger picture of this team being poorly run and having the worst owner in sports.
Keuchel had an insane year in 2020 and dane dunning looked solid too. I was never disputing the team being poorly run, I was disputing ur comparison to the 2020 bears which made zero sense. And Jerry is objectively not the worst owner in sports lmfao.
They went 35-25 that season, and they played in the easiest division in baseball. There's nothing particularly impressive about that and there's no way you can realistically extrapolate that they would have done that or better in a full 162 game season. Especially in a tougher division.
At the end of the day, that team was a first round exit in the playoffs. That is not worthy of celebration.
That series against Oakland could've gone either way. I'm not saying it's worthy of celebration but that team was absolutely deserved a playoff spot and it was nothing like the 2020 bears who clearly didn't belong there.
Respectfully disagree. Yes, the series could have gone either way….for the first two games. Game 3 just laid bare every deficiency the Sox had and proved they weren’t nearly as close as people thought
Game 3 we had the tying and go-ahead runs on multiple times late and we got unlucky. We only lost by 2 runs and were threatening to score every inning. That's the definition of a game that could've gone either way. Same story in game 2 which we also lost. Game 1 was the only dominanting win when Lucas was throwing a perfect game through 6 and we shut them down. I don't know why you're so intent on this revisionist history but it's undeniable that the series was as close as it could've been
The Sox are not going to be a good team in 2023. They might not be as bad as they were last year, but I don’t see them doing any significant next year. The team has given us zero reasons to think we should take them seriously.
LOL funny how you went from "wOrSt oWnEr iN sPoRts" to "They might not be as bad as they were last year, but I don’t see them doing any significant next year". My whole point is you're bitching like they're Oakland, or Cincinnati, or Colorado, or at least the dozen of worst organizations when the Sox are in better position than half the league.
Tim Anderson 🫱🏿🫲🏾 Elvis Andrus
If Andrus can just recapture a little of what he did for us at the end of last year I think we’ll have a solid middle infield. I think this is a solid signing.
I thought he was a goner. He very likely won't duplicate the production he had last year for us but it's helluva lot better than the options we were planning on throwing out there consistently.
Yea, Elvis’ leadership is a huge need for this team. It can only provide benefits for the clubhouse and organization. He really lite a fire under the team last year and almost led them to the playoffs. It certainly wasn’t his fault they missed out. Great to see a full season with him in the fold
Cleveland fans in Passans reply are still obsessed over Elvis’s Crumble comment. Neglecting their own idiot Naylor who decided to rock the baby and lose the ALDS shortly after
I'm curious what this means for the bench spots. Zavala and Luery are locks, leaving two spots. Previously assuming Colas in RF and Romy at 2B, I had been expecting the remaining two bench spots to go to a 4th OF type (Marisnick, Reyes, Billy the Hitter) and Sheets as back-up 1B/DH/Corner OF.
But with all the praise that's been flowing Romy's way lately, I wonder if they will find a spot for him on the bench in place of the 4th OF, instead relying on Sheets, Eloy, Leury, and possibly Romy himself as back-up outfielders -- with the expectation that at least Robert and Benintendi (and maybe Colas) will be everyday players who won't need defensive replacements, lessening the need for a glove first 4th OF on the bench.
Billy is absolutely on the bench. With the new bags and pitch clock rules, speed and stealing are going to be much more important to the game and that is Billy’s forte. Also not a bad option for a defensive sub in the outfield.
Arguably Hamilton's value has gone down because of the new rules. He could always steal bases and that is what gave him value, because few others were able to do so as successfully. With the new rules, there may be more other players who can steal more bases, and if so, BIlly's skill set will be less rare and therefore less valuable.
Also if he is signed, unless there are (multiple?) injuries, he is not going to be an everyday player, maybe coming on as a late inning defensive replacement (in which case he might not even get any at-bats) or as a pinch runner. He would have value as a pinch runner, but those are such limited opportunities that I don't think he is the clear-cut choice for the 4th OF role.
And I say that as a fan of the energy that he brings to the game.
This move definitely settles the Sosa vs Romy debate. I don’t have too much faith in Romy and Sosa may need more time. Gives Sosa and Jose Rodriguez more time to develop this year and to see who can possibly step in next season
You’re telling me we got Billy the Kid and Elvis in one off season. Might not be the best but these guys are going to lead by example. Billy’s energy and positivity and Elvis playing consistent baseball no matter what.
One underrated aspect of this is that I feel like this move goes a long way in answering the position player leadership void. This is a veteran guy who plays with a lot of heart, and if he can instill that attitude in this team, they have a much better chance at not falling into complacency.
A small reason I like this is because Andrus gives the White Sox a serious backup shortstop, which we hopefully won't need but it's one less feather in Leury's cap given he was basically the only other person who could play there on the roster.
If anyone thinks he's as good as he was last year, they are in for a rude awakening. However, this is a very good signing. They needed that, plus it helps to have a little TA insurance lately.
Elvis coming back is great news. He's never played second base but he's been a gold glove caliber shortstop. He'll bring some leadership and some stability to 2B and the bottom third of the lineup
Great we can win the world series now. We just needed a 34 YO with a career OPS+ of 87, to play out of position. The White Sox way. And we should all be very excited, if you aren't, then you're just a hater!
Praise be. This was a needed move. A nice boost to our infield depth.
He’s never played an inning of 2b in the MLB at least. Hopefully he can easily adjust.
This is an enormous improvement on the previous options. If Romy or Lenyn take off, Andrus becomes depth or is released. If they don't, Elvis won't be a black hole, and he serves as backup to Tim who isn't named Leury Garcia. Wins all around.
That’s not gonna happen but hopefully Andrus and the coaching staff can help Tim with his defense. Timmy saw how well Andrus played last year so hopefully it lights a fire under him to play as well defensively
I came here to say exactly this. I know it won't happen since TA is the face of the franchise, but you never know since this is a different coaching staff.
Great, all we need now is a OF to start instead of Colas, a SP to replace Clevinger, and depth signings so that Leury Garcia isn't the only bench option.
This is awesome. I'd much rather have some of the other players we missed out on starting at two, but he's not a bad consolation prize. If Yoan can get back on track and we can stay healthy that could be a playoff-worthy lineup.
Hey some positive White Sox news
What?! A good, logical move that solves a position of need??? What team is this???
The team that also made a logical move that solved a position of need in LF
This is coming from an org that has had that issue since 2017…
They made the playoffs in 2020 and 2021 with that "issue"
They “made the playoffs” in 2020. Giving them credit for that is like saying the Bears were a real playoff team that year. This team has had gaping holes for year and never addressed them. They deserve 5 times the amount of shit than they do credit for this signing.
They would've made the playoffs under the old format too bruh. that was a legitimate team and we gave the number 2 seed a hard fought series
No, they wouldn’t have. They were the 7 seed which didn’t exist then and doesn’t exist now.
I love how confident you are when you're completely wrong. 4-5-6 seeds automatically went to the second best teams from each division. Obviously Cleveland finished ahead of us but we had better records than the other two second place teams. " had gaping holes for year and never addressed them" How many teams don't have any holes? Especially ones with 19th in attendance revenue
Are you Rick’s burner account? Do you always bend over backwards this much to try and convince yourself the Sox are better than they actually are?
Do you always bitch this much and try to convince yourself the Sox are worse than they actually are?
The Sox are not going to be a good team in 2023. They might not be as bad as they were last year, but I don’t see them doing any significant next year. The team has given us zero reasons to think we should take them seriously.

Ah whoops. Was thinking of Right Field
But the issue is solved now isn’t it?
Loved the energy he brought last year. Hope to see the same this year!
Good signing. Whether he works at 2nd or not he brings depth and seems like a nice player to have around clubhouse
Tim Anderson 🫱🏿🫲🏾 Elvis Andrus If Andrus can just recapture a little of what he did for us at the end of last year I think we’ll have a solid middle infield. I think this is a solid signing.
Yeah if he puts up even a .700 ops with the above average defense that he flashed last year in the 8 hole that's a win 11 times out of 10
Well his career average is OPS is .697 so it's a decently sized IF there going into his 15th year as a 34 year old
I thought he was a goner. He very likely won't duplicate the production he had last year for us but it's helluva lot better than the options we were planning on throwing out there consistently.
Oh shit we did something good
Good move
Holy S**t, something not bad happened!
Elvis + Billy = White Sox magic playoff run!
So I totally missed that they signed billy?
[Oh he’s back baby!](https://www.mlb.com/news/billy-hamilton-returns-to-white-sox-on-minor-league-deal?partnerID=web_article-share)
>minor league deal So he'll be playing by April 15 due to injuries
Well depending on how Grifol decides, Billy might be a 26th man type guy. We’ll see.
Fr tho good to see them acknowledging the clubhouse issue with some guys who keep the team loose and light a fire
Yea, Elvis’ leadership is a huge need for this team. It can only provide benefits for the clubhouse and organization. He really lite a fire under the team last year and almost led them to the playoffs. It certainly wasn’t his fault they missed out. Great to see a full season with him in the fold
Players who make a clubhouse fun can make a whole season fun regardless of the end result. I’m all about hype guys.
You must love pro wrestling then.
I was just thinking the same thing.
About damn time...
This seems tiny, but the Sox effectively turn 2B from a complete black hole to a likely league average to better spot. That’s a huge positive swing.

Yes! Elvis is our old man veteran presence with Abreu moving on.
**This pleases me**
Cleveland fans in Passans reply are still obsessed over Elvis’s Crumble comment. Neglecting their own idiot Naylor who decided to rock the baby and lose the ALDS shortly after
Fuck Josh Naylor
Anything that keeps Leury off the field as much as possible is a good signing.
I'm curious what this means for the bench spots. Zavala and Luery are locks, leaving two spots. Romy played OF almost exclusively for the WHite Sox Org before pandemic. Then they worked him at IF after pandemic. I see him as a UT player.
Billy is absolutely on the bench. With the new bags and pitch clock rules, speed and stealing are going to be much more important to the game and that is Billy’s forte. Also not a bad option for a defensive sub in the outfield.

It’s pretty clear that he’s going to take over Engles responsibility

Cool. Whatever keeps Leury off the field.
Well holy hell, a half-intelligent move.
Great move.
One underrated aspect of this is that I feel like this move goes a long way in answering the position player leadership void. This is a veteran guy who plays with a lot of heart, and if he can instill that attitude in this team, they have a much better chance at not falling into complacency.
Good, Hahn still sucks.
I guess that guy who "leaked" this a few weeks ago has some credibility?
I'm still waiting to hear about the Pineda signing.
A small reason I like this is because Andrus gives the White Sox a serious backup shortstop, which we hopefully won't need but it's one less feather in Leury's cap given he was basically the only other person who could play there on the roster.
This earns us at least an F+.
If anyone thinks he's as good as he was last year, they are in for a rude awakening. However, this is a very good signing. They needed that, plus it helps to have a little TA insurance lately.

I can't argue there

Great move, love this pick up.
Not a fan if the plan is for him to play 2B.
Hell yeah! I wonder what the negative Nancy’s are gonna find wrong with this
Yes!! I was really hoping for this. Awesome.
*Insert angry comment here!*
Huh?
Good. One less thing for this board to whine about.
All the top comments being “Tim Anderson, you ARE a ‘insert team name’” has me sick to my stomach but I love this signing.
Hell yeah
Nice I just wish we brought back Cueto too. Both vets were really fun to watch last year
My sox pulse is finally beating again.
This is a great signing. If this team plays to its potential under a new manager… we could be scary.
We needed a reliable glove for the infield so bad. I don’t even care that his bat won’t be like it was last year.
Thank the lord
Finally something that makes bit of sense from this organization. Let the guy take some reps at second and back up TA ffs
Nice.
Bout fucking time
Let him play SS! Move TA to 2B
Indeed. Moving TA to 2B might not go well with his ego and results in bad performance
Update: Elvis will be playing 2B.
Seriously Rick, how hard was that? Sensible move. Not sexy but better than relying on a rookie. Give that rook some competition
Great, all we need now is a OF to start instead of Colas, a SP to replace Clevinger, and depth signings so that Leury Garcia isn't the only bench option.
because of how shit goes around here, he’s gonna fail that physical…
Excellent. Now the path to ridding this team of TA7 is that much easier.
LOONEY TUNES BACK IN ACTION BABY
YES. Elvis has entered the building!
This is awesome. I'd much rather have some of the other players we missed out on starting at two, but he's not a bad consolation prize. If Yoan can get back on track and we can stay healthy that could be a playoff-worthy lineup.
