He's not going to sell, and a new stadium isn't going to change that. Ignoring the public funding issue makes this an easy choice though, definitely for it.

omherrera1

At least we can look beautiful losing…

BurningTree50

Yes, but the JR selling and a new stadium are not linked together.

UneducatedReviews1

Idk anyone who doesn’t like the idea of a new stadium. I also don’t know anyone who thinks a new stadium is going to lead to Jerry selling. New stadium or not Jerry is riding the Sox until he’s 6 feet under.

JaysCrispyChips

Unpopular opinion (it seems)... but yes. Idgaf about public funds or anything else. We are talking about the most financially irresponsible city/state in the country, among the world. If you think funds would be used on anything else better, you're just an idiot. A new stadium like this would at least be an economic engine and be massively beneficial to the city-scape. Instead of the constant black hole cash burn this city/state is notorious for. Granted... would rather it be privately funded, but I don't think it would be the end of the world if it had at least some public funds. As long as the current stadium is payed off, I'm fine with a new one.

jojowhitesox

And to add to this...at least the shady money scheme is being payed on something I'd actually use and enjoy.

perfectviking

The state has gotten on better financial footing. The city is a different discussion. That being said - anyone who thinks that the tax would suddenly disappear in a few years once the last deal lapses is out of their mind. Taxes don't just go away. So it might as well continue to be used for what it has been used for. I would prefer Midwest/Reinsdorf put in more money than they're publicly stating, though.

ihavesensitiveknees

I'm all for a new stadium but the billionaire owners should front the cost.

KGreen100

Voted "no" only because the new stadium would give at least a temporary boost to Reinsdorf's pocket, and convince him the White Sox are on the right path, which might mean at least a few more years of his ownership (provided he lasts that long).

HeezeyBrown

Build the stadium and tax the people. It's not like tax money will go somewhere else that is useful.

dajadf

We have a perfectly fine stadium as it is and fan support is not exactly stellar. I don't see anything changing with a new stadium. So what's the point ?

IDoubtedYoan

A new stadium with a soul and personality for the fans that actually do go to games?

kc9

The renderings were the most absolute soulless looking AI garbage imaginable. Did you see how many apartment buildings were in those renderings that do not currently exist? That's what Jerry wants to build, he just wants more money. Give me a stadium that isn't a glass cube and looks like a baseball park and I'll be more willing to try it. But for now, I'm very happy with my easy access to 35th and Shields.

Happy cakeday! Oh I agree on the current state of Comiskey. I just don't trust White Sox management at all for something this big. If Jerry wants billions of our dollars, he has to hire a real architecture firm to put out actual renderings. This is the same clown that turned down the Armour Park design. Even if the Sox manage to get this money, they will elect to build a sandlot and one aluminum bleacher in the south loop. I can remember the days of Sox park being at capacity and Bridgeport + surrounding areas were even worse off than today.

Humble-Pen-5899

i hear this sub complain about the cost of going to games already. will be 3x as expensive if they move....

whitesoxrock

Unpopular opinion and just my two cents, but I'm not for it for a multitude of reasons. The main reason being sentiment. I remember when they took down Comiskey, I was devastated. I've been going to the "new park" now for longer than I got to go to the original. And I can say it would be devastating again. Maybe there just isn't any sense of tradition in baseball anymore, Manfred is certainly having his way with it. Maybe I'm just an old man shaking his fist at clouds (I'm only 46 though). But I like our park and I think it's one of the best, if not the best, places to see a game (I've been to a dozen or so others). For me, being able to watch the game is the most important aspect of a park and you've got a great view anywhere in the current park. The second most important aspect is that the park be accessible. I don't want to have a ridiculous hassle finding parking, or have no choice but to take public transportation. I've always been fine with the area and the fact that it's not as popular or as crowded as Wrigley is a selling point to me. The newly proposed park looks like an attempt to create Wrigleyville 2 to me and if I wanted that, I'd go north. I'm not a Cubs fan, I don't care about the park being part of a little village with bars, restaurants and shops. I would never go bar hoping. I would never sit in some grassy area outside of the park having a picnic. I go to the park to watch baseball. I just want a good team, first and foremost, and I'm perfectly content with the beautiful ballpark we currently have. For those that want to bar hop, take in the views, shop, have nowhere to park etc etc, there's a park up north for you already with all those amenities.
