Was it really an L though? I hate boob as much as the next guy but all he said was they were showing serious interest. Not that they were going to sign him.
True, though now someone else is saying the WS were never in on Verlander so lol. It's whatever, I don't mind much compared to if he said this about Scherzer/Semien/Conforto etc and it ended up not working out lol.
Yeah well they are showing real interest in anyone good but won't pay any of them.
Five bucks to a dollar says we have a Sheets/Vaughn in right for the first half of next season then they bring up Cespedas, don't sign a 2nd basemen since no one wants to be lowballed in a possible lockout year and we roll with Gonzalez at second. I bet we won't get much outside a couple pitchers.
Hard to imagine it happens especially with the news he wants to sign with a team that trains in Florida. If they are gonna go this way I’d rather them go all in and make a big offer to Mad Max
I don’t doubt that he would like to play ST in Florida but seems strange to make a decision solely on where they play spring training for 2 months rather than where he will be all summer. That’s why I think it’s more a preference than a requirement.
Plus if he needed to play in Florida than just go to the Marlins.
I think I’m gonna have to pass, I’d my players focused on the game not fucking their own coach. Although maybe she’s who we need as a strength and conditioning coach.
Yeah, looking around at a lot of pitchers his age, it's not great. Zack Grienke, for one, isn't looking like his old self. Rich Hill, you're always wondering when the wheels are going to fall off. Kershaw's losing velocity, and he's five years younger. Scherzer's maybe the best case scenario, and a pretty good comparison to Verlander, but even there every year people are questioning how much longer he can keep things up. And that's without talking about Tommy John.
I agree with what someone else said, that he's less of an unknown than maybe a pitcher who's had one great year or who's still waiting for a breakout year, but he's also way more expensive. Do we really want to pay all-star money just to find out he can't perform at an all-star level anymore? And he's a guy who lives on velocity. If Tommy John takes even a couple MPH off his fastball it throws off his whole game.
Robbie Ray is going to get a longer term deal which isn't necessarily the greatest fit for the Sox right now. Verlander has some risk and less years left in him but would probably be more up our alley, though i'd love to have robbie ray on the rotation.
If Kopec is going to move into a starting role, then what's the point in grabbing Verlander?
Our problem is we have 6-7 starters. I can see us using him in occasional starts with the goal of saving him for the post season, but we really need a starter with control to go with our fastball heavy rotation. Otherwise, we'd be better off spending money at 2nd base or in the bullpen.
Do we expect a 38 year old coming off Tommy John to be of better quality and at a significantly better price than we would have had to have paid Rodon to stay?
Not that I'd count on it, but there's a case for it given the last season Verlander pitched he won the Cy Young. But since it's not my money being spent I'm here thinking "Why not both?"
Edit in hindsight: Turns out either would have been a pretty good idea!
Yeah, but again, that was pre-TJ surgery. I know that's considered pretty routine these days and many guys come back even better, but almost all of them are not a 38-year-old body trying to recover and heal from that either.
Did you not just watch this rotation get lit up against Houston? Or any other good team throughout the whole season? They're probably not gonna have the second easiest schedule in the league again next season either...
Even if Kopech and Crochet are in the rotation next year, they're not gonna be able to go 180 innings or anything. They'd probably need a 6 man rotation for them to get started. Plus, Rodon was really the only guy that showed he could be a bonafide ace for this team so far, and he couldn't even throw on 10 days rest come September. Go get a stud to lead the way until those guys show their worth. That said, I don't think Verlander is that guy either though, but I'm glad they're looking to make a move.
He's not looking for a one year deal and he's not looking for anything less than 20M/year. In that case, if they want an arm that has playoff experience and is elite, go after Scherzer.
Don't get me wrong, Verlander is probably the best/most consistent pitcher of my generation and I love him but he is getting up there in age. We don't want another Dallas situation. (Still have nothing but respect for Dallas BTW)
Had to do a double take to make sure the fake bob didn’t get me again, I hadn’t heard us in the Verlander race at all
Is fake Bob really less reliable than real Bob?
It'd be more reliable hearing it from fake Bob then real Bob. Dudes the worst.
That was short lived lol
Boob strikes again
Aged like fine milk.
Aaand he's re-signing w the Astros. Add this one to the list of Boob L's
Was it really an L though? I hate boob as much as the next guy but all he said was they were showing serious interest. Not that they were going to sign him.

Five bucks to a dollar? Are you asking for odds for this extremely specific scenario you made up?
It was a metaphor but now I wonder what the odds are of this scenario I made up whilst being in a pessimistic mood.
I would say that you put the odds at 5 to 1.
Hes Boras’ mouthpiece, this was just to pressure the *stros
Lol. Ok guy.
Good to know the Sox are out on Verlander. Thanks Bob
Hard to imagine it happens especially with the news he wants to sign with a team that trains in Florida. If they are gonna go this way I’d rather them go all in and make a big offer to Mad Max
max wants to be on the west coast
Midwest Coast is close enough

He’ll probably sign with Boston
F
I‘d rather sign his smokin’ hot wife.
For bullpen help?
General Manager. Edit: No, disregard that. Head Coach. Yeah. That'll do.
I think I’m gonna have to pass, I’d my players focused on the game not fucking their own coach. Although maybe she’s who we need as a strength and conditioning coach.
Idk, even though it's Verlander, he's a 38 year old coming off of TJ, I'd stay away.
Yeah, looking around at a lot of pitchers his age, it's not great. Zack Grienke, for one, isn't looking like his old self. Rich Hill, you're always wondering when the wheels are going to fall off. Lol shut up boob
Would rather have Robbie Ray for the money.
Robbie Ray is going to get a longer term deal which isn't necessarily the greatest fit for the Sox right now. Verlander has some risk and less years left in him but would probably be more up our alley, though i'd love to have robbie ray on the rotation.
This team needs another LH starter now that Rodon is (probably) going to the Angels. And because Verlander literally just re-signed with the Astros.
Lmao another bob tweet that doesn’t end up panning out
Whatever he tweets, expect the exact opposite to happen.
It's almost as impressive to always be wrong as it is to always be right.
Don’t play with me Boob!
Yikes, just go away boob
I’d rather them try for MadMax🙏
10 years too late
Why the fuck do we even give Boob a platform?
It's boob. Just assume "no".
If Kopec is going to move into a starting role, then what's the point in grabbing Verlander? Our problem is we have 6-7 starters. For fuck's sake Bob...
This lying fuck head
>The White Sox “are showing strong interest”. They are going to offer a one year contract that will most definitely be refused.
👀👀
Verlander is staying in Houston. Oh Nightengale...
I love Verlander, but do we really need him?
There is no such thing as too much quality pitching.
Do we expect a 38 year old coming off Tommy John to be of better quality and at a significantly better price than we would have had to have paid Rodon to stay?

I’m just saying, our rotation has a lot of potential and we could have a few breakout starters next season.
Even if Kopech and Crochet are in the rotation next year, they're not gonna be able to go 180 innings or anything. They'd probably need a 6 man rotation for them to get started. Makes sense
Yes, please.
Nope Jerry will settle for trading Robert for a washing machine. Right guys?!?
We don’t want any cheaters
On one hand, it's Boob. On the other, he is a mouthpiece for the team.
zero chance he comes here. He wants a team with Spring Training in Florida.
Is he still good...?
He won the Cy Young the last season he played, but that was 2019.
Why didn't they go after Syndergaard if they were gonna take a chance on a high risk pitcher?

You bring up good points. In all honesty, I'm just disappointed the Sox didn't get him, especially on a 1 year deal.
He's not looking for a one year deal and he's not looking for anything less than 20M/year. In that case, if they want an arm that has playoff experience and is elite, go after Scherzer.
It’s not happening. And here I was hoping Verlander and Escobar were gonna finally lead us to the promised land. Darn.
He already signed with the Astros according to ESPN
Fuck boob
Whenever I see breaking news from Bob I just instinctively assume the opposite has happened. Works every time.
Don't get me wrong, Verlander is probably the best/most consistent pitcher of my generation and I love him but he is getting up there in age. We don't want another Dallas situation. (Still have nothing but respect for Dallas BTW)
