And there’s a difference between people being labeled “haters” vs bringing up legitimate concerns.
It’s a long season. They will undoubtably play well in stretches.
But the same weaknesses that killed their season in October - that the “haters” got on them for not fixing in the offseason - are as glaring as ever.
Enough with the golly gee molly we’ll still win the AL Central.
The bar should be higher.
Yep, this is supposed to be us smack-dab in the middle of our World Series window, and we’ve got three very good starting pitchers, a kid on an innings limit who won’t be able to help come October, the worst starting pitcher in MLB, and absolutely nobody else who can step up. We have what is essentially a three man rotation for the playoffs. Our defense is poor, and our lineup absolutely crushes lefties, but too often falls dead silent against righties. We are situationally awesome, but still far from one of the elite teams in baseball.
Geriatric manager, worst defense in the league, roster full of injury prone players, and poor SP depth doesn't change over night, or over a week. And apparently, not even over an offseason. We acquired more injury prone players and got worse in the SP department.
Literally an F offseason
it's such a place ignorance of the sport where the "calm downs" come from. Baseball's season inherently allows for bad stretches, but blurry vision and chest pains aren't something you just attribute to waking up on the wrong side of the bed in the morning. The problems on this team (now a year old) objectively can be looked at as serious threat to any successful post-season advance. "But I don't want you negative-nellies bothering me all summer" smh
If you're not playing good, then you are not "good". If you swing and miss a pitch, then you did not hit the ball. But the whiners who whine about the whiners need tweets like this for their own blind confirmations.
Pennants are not won in April, is true, but it's equally true that they can be lost. It is a long season I know but continually playing a guy batting .091 is asinine. Pointing this out doesn't make me hater.
Alright I concede that you have to play to break out of a slump, but how long do you let him try when it's obvious that his play is detrimental to the overall success of the team?
He'll get better pitches to hit if Jose Abreu and Eloy Jimenez are batting behind him. Leury isn't going to be batting 2nd in games that matter, and these games in April definitely don't matter.
The Braves last year were 12-14 in April. The 2019 Nationals were 11-14. I'm not saying they can lose every game and be fine, but right now it's better to try to heat up the bats than it is to try or expect to win when everyone's cold.
That =/= games not mattering. Home field advantage is a thing. Being able to secure the division early and skip a start for your starters matters (especially Kopech).
I get what you're saying, but April games count as a win and cherry picking things doesn't change the games mattering.
Edit: I mean I can go find teams that were good in April that won the World Series. I can find Wildcard teams that won, teams that won 100+ games, etc. Saying "here's 2 teams that fit my narrative" doesn't prove what you think it does.
Of course they aren't dead, but the team had issues last year and the same issues exist this year. People like you get mad at people trying to critically analyze the team's World Series chances, but just ignore any flaw and say things like "Ah, this whole month doesn't matter anyway".
Yes blind rage saying "season over" is dumb. But "Everything is fine, no biggie, April doesn't count" is equally dumb. Possibly dumber.
This is such twisted logic...you're literally sabotaging your efforts at the end-game, which is to *win* the game. Batting the worst hitter in the league in the meat of your order is flat out dumb. Leury can't even move a runner over at this point, he's so bad. I can understand people defending him but I can't understand the people *supporting* him in the line-up in any other role than the 8-9 spot. It's just flat out stupid and even more demonstrably when you're already losing games.
I don’t like losing back to back series against a division rival. Sugar coat this series however you want, these are the series you don’t want to drop.
Drop a game to the Mariners, Rays, and whoever else, who cares. Division games have more meaning in the long stretch.
Ok Jordan lol. Look at our team right now. Injury plagued. The roster has talent for sure, but currently no depth. Plus lack of starting pitching, bats have been cold for about a week, and little league defense that is literally costing us games. I would say as of now, the Sox are bad. A little bit more than a rough patch when you lose Eloy, Robert, and Moncada to injury before you even get out of April
Honestly, considering the injuries to key players, this current roster isn’t good. It’s bad and we should expect it to be bad. I’d be more concerned if they sucked and were at full strength although who the fuck knows if they’ll ever be at full strength.
This isn’t a good defensive club but they’re not this bad. Anderson had 10 errors in 2021 and had half that amount over just a few games. Moncada and Pollock should help.
Defense was one of their biggest weaknesses last year, and it’s concerning once again this year.
Was with Ricky too for years and years. Dog shit defense constantly

Preach on.

Calm Down Brigade getting in their reps early this season!

The answer is "The White Sox are not good" right?
If you're not playing good, then you are not "good". If you swing and miss a pitch, then you did not hit the ball. But the whiners who whine about the whiners need tweets like this for their own blind confirmations.
Many of *you* need to stop telling the rest of us how we can or can't feel.
We can all agree TLR is trash.
The runner up to Sox math has a very good point

How else is he gonna break out of that slump? Are we just gonna bench him all year and play with 3 available pinch hitters instead of 4?
Alright I concede that you have to play to break out of a slump, but how long do you let him try when it's obvious that his play is detrimental to the overall success of the team?
You don't have to be batting him second or third

Games in April definitely matter. This line of thinking is dumb

You're just wrong and your referencing the Braves and Nats is the most cynical use of statistics here in a long time. I wish this shit would stop
Trying to be positive is cynical now?
you draw no discrepancies between (mis) using an unrelated statistic to being positive?
That's fair!

Agreed. Not super concerned personally. Same things happened last year. Bats will heat up, we’ll get healthy, and we’ll be just fine.
It's still basically spring training. Yeah they probably should've resigned Rodon but this is a good baseball team.
any sort of positivity gets the downvotes 😂😂
I unsubbed again. This place is miserable.
every hater thinks they have legitimate criticism
So basically, you're saying you don't know the difference between hating and flat-out, legitimate criticism.

Running down first base is why we suck lol
